@migxmeg even if he doesn't like it at first, he'll grow into it :grin:
And thanks so much! :fire: I spent too much time on this update, but I sure hope it looks good! And I am so late with Hex updates, cheesus, I will take one month just to catch up with it :cry_01:

“How about we just move it out of the way” (the birth is the belt as an accessory)

I was not as great as I wanted to be today, but I will try again tomorrow.

Just a lil doodle I did during lunch today, but it’s giving mojo dojo casa house (ignore the coloring sheet lines).

Doodled up this idea I've had on my mind for a while today.

@IndigoShirtProd akjshakjshskad I am so jealous of the movement in your lines. Oozes attitude!

@migxmeg OMG BEBBY LIKES SALSA! I had the weirdest hate-on for anything involving tomatoes prepared in any sort of way as a kid. Raw (which I quite liked) or nothing!

@Kelheor I love how much expression you can put in just a few lines.

I've been pretty art blocked lately (well... in a way. I can still work on Engram just fine, but I'm having a crisis of art style). I got told my lineart looked too young and I've just been kinda stuck. Because I can def draw differently, but what I can do naturally, and what I like aesthetically are really at odds.

On the left was me saying "Okay, draw what comes most naturally/fastest". On the right is "Draw the kind of aesthetics you like" (he's stiffer because of it). IDK I just love the charm of simple shapes, but I dunno if I'm going to run into another "this is too young" issue. I like Engram's style but that's definitely "too young" if my pitch was. I'm contemplating pairing up with another artist or something and just doing colors because I just don't know. Everyone I've shown my art always points to the most realistic way I can draw and go "Why don't you draw it like that?" and I just don't know why the thought of drawing 240 pages that way just feels so unappealing.

Original character design that looks "too young"

The least favourite way which of course everyone likes :<

The title page for the comic is finished, I will add 2 more pages next week, fix the coloring add
some texture, have my brother proof read the dialogue and then send it to the contest.

I´ll take the day off today and take the train to Düsseldorf, visit little Tokyo, go to the comic shops,
eat some Ramen. Then I´ll go to Cologne with the train, visit some more comic and record shops.
I rediscovered traveling by train because we have that cheap monthly train ticket now in Germany.
49€ and you can take every train, bus, subway.

This is a sketch of me traveling to Düsseldorf. This is exactly how I look like in real life in
case you are wondering

@IndigoShirtProd I absolutely love her design :purple_heart:

@Mallory thank you!
Maybe try different shapes? I know it sounds easier said than done, but maybe adding harder and longer shapes to the character will age them up, while not making them more realistic? Of course, it's hard to change the preferred aesthetic, really can't blame you for going with something you actually love the most.

@Lensing this sounds like super fun ^^ hope you had a great day!

This thread made me realize I haven't drawn my boys since... 2006 or something, so I felt extremely ashamed :smiley:

Thank you for linking it! I just wondered if anyone else had twin characters. It was more than what I was expecting!

@abigaillmartin thank you! Gods I love them too hahaha. Sorry I thought your thread idea is just too good for my casual sketch xD twin characters are cool!

Couple of studies (ish) based on photographs for shapes.

@Kelheor if I understood the criticism correctly, it wasn't that the characters looked too young, it was that the style looked too young/aimed at a "too young" audience. I think it was likely that my subject matter (contemporary for the pitch) meant there was less freedom to do fun things like heavy stylization (though I just read a really nice contemporary comic for the same age range with an almost identical style, so... I dunno, I'm confused).

Maybe I'm just overthinking it, and should just do what I like to do.

Also just for fun, I can't remember if I posted them here, but here are my twins from my pitch!

I think I want to join this challenge! ^^
had a random burst of inspiration and sketched this, I really like it so i think i might turn it into a full piece :stuck_out_tongue:

Wanted to draw a friendly/tough old chap character. I think he’s a bit too much friend-shaped, need to make him a bit tougher-looking.

Awwww he’s so adorable! He looks like a more humble monopoly guy as if in an alternate universe or something.
