I ended up doing another character study today. This time is Coach Pepper's son. He's supposed to look really mean but he's actually anything but. He chose 52 for his jersey number because 1952 was the birth year of Rita Dove (who writes just absolutely breath-taking poetry). Struggling with trying to figure out the voice of the narrator in the comic so I'm procrastinating starting on the pages....

Also my husband said he looks like he's pooping and I had to respond with "no you're pooping". I can't help that it's literally a pooping pose!!!

Yesterday's warm up studies the first set of sketches always make me laugh. My proportions are way off and everythingis pretty abstract 🤣

After the first few sketches I managed to do this sketch. The main feature this time was the type 4c hair.

Then I did a life study of my little Maile figurine:

And here is a finished sketch of a scene from lilo and stitch. I'm trying to get in the habit of completing big images from start to finish

And then I did a quick sketch before bed, last night :sleeping_accommodation:

Last spine set drawing from the skeleton model. I guess the output should look the same if I'm doing it right for another dozen but I get to look at humans.

@Kelheor how did you know where to put all those lines in 5 minutes? Bummed I won't be at the desk as much tomorrow but will check Twitch if I'm here :3.

@nathanKmcwilliams poor Darrel!! Lol, very nice. So excited for your Christmas comic :hype_01:.

@MerrowBros
Glad you like it. Darrel is a fun character to draw.

@migxmeg
Hopefully people will like it. It's definitely...going to be an acquired taste. If you like movies like The Last Action Hero, I'm sure it'll scratch that itch.

@Kelheor what time?

@AfroAtelier I love how lively you make these pencil sketches work. Really reminds me of storyboards.

Once I added the pop colors to the inks I felt like for the first time my digital drawings had an actual purpose in my body of work that I can explore (without needing weird perspective). I'm not sure if the purple tint was better for color harmony or if keeping strong greys was better for contrasting. At some point I'll probably need to do one of those polls.

@migxmeg oh well, the 5 min sketch is a study, otherwise it would be much more dirty :joy: btw those are great, I will definitely follow your path next month :muscle:

@LCT_m_a_d I guess it would be too early for your time, 8 am est :sweat_smile: maybe I'll draw for longer time, but I guess it would still be really early. The video will be there for a couple of weeks though! (I really need to learn how to do timelapses :see_no_evil: )

That drawing is absolutely adorable and I love your take on Snapdragon. Thank you so much for drawing them together. :heart_01: :hugging:

You’re welcome. It was fun.

Those floppy ears and swirly tail… kinda reminds me of my boys :sweat_smile: :dog::heart:

Lol, glad you liked it.

I think the ears and tail were based loosely off of my puppy and a friend of mine's puppy actually come to think of it. :smile:

@AfroAtelier love the way your pencils look, they flow so well!

@migxmeg dang I forget how bendy spines actually are. That's like, really bendy. (Also I love how SOME of the vertebrae get the vertebral processes, but not others, haha. It's the important ones that count).

@Black_Conscious dang I love the lighting on this one! Really nicely done with the texture on the beads, they look really smooth.

@Sethstiel - Bedhead is ALWAYS cute. But especially this one.

@simplykit Man the sparse use of the blacks really brings attention to those few elements that are black. I can't stop staring at the crown/face, really draws the eye right in.

So, I did something different. I went ham with the thumbnails, in the hope that by the time I get to the final stage of these pages, I can save a bunch of time because I already know what I'm looking for:

Also here's Leonie in a hat.

@Mallory
Love how you're able to create such distinguished shapes from colors–also, wonderful palette, really sets the mood!

thanks buddy :grin: yep those darker lines help distinguish the important parts i want the attention to be focused.
you're awesome for noticing! :grin:

yo! your artworks are so cute!

is that a walrus wearing a red hat? kawaiiiiii :grin:

keep up the good work :+1:

Break from late night block carving for a quick revisit of @Kelheor's Gil after one year (+3 days)... how has it been that long?

@nathanKmcwilliams lol! The first thing I thought when I saw your mini Blitzens was that it was a Chopper corruption arc XD. But then I have been seeing a lot of Chopper lately.

@Mallory soooo bendy. Bodies are the weirdest - I'm constantly fascinated and creeped out by this whole anatomy stuff. Nice lineless work!! Hope it eases the later process, certainly looks cool. And all those hats, red and blue, are adorable <3.

OH MY GOODNESS, so beautiful, thank youuuu, you just made my December :cry_01::two_hearts: suffering blonds team go! xD
Yeah, this year went by... really strange :see_no_evil:

@nathanKmcwilliams I completely support that theory XD
@Kelheor Aaaaah, she looks amazing!! I really love how you used the hair to circle the drawing, and all those loose strands make it look so dynamic :heart_01:
@migxmeg That Gil expression is going straight to my heart, it looks so good :'''0
