Have any of you tried to do a robot before??? Like the transformers kind?
As a homage to my new toy -I bought Scavenger NBK transformer from AliExpress-, I tried to do him... immediatly knew that I needed help, so I used primitives cubes to do the pose, and then I filled the space... and now I have a full new respect for every drawer that had to do the transformers, specially for those who did them before 3D came around.
I tell you, this is not for the faint hearted.

I avoid mechs because they're so incredibly hard to draw. You did an awesome job, seriously.

Yeah it´s super stylistic and drawing without any construction lines was the hardest thing for me that I did
since years
I normally start portraits with a layin like that and in the course it´s just drawing shadow shapes by eyeballing
it. But I guess it´s a good practice.

So I thought I completely ruined the morning by being unable to draw even one normal sketch, but then a study came up.

So I wanted a blond model for studies and suddenly I got one. Even more, I found the absolute perfect Gil cast in Dark series and now my brain is broken :pumpkin:

been artblocked to hell n back lately and felt especially worn out today till i caught the latest Dream BBQ trailer from Joel G and it's absolutely flipped a switch in my brain especially with Oliver Buckland's music accompaniment (song title is damn good too! anemoia which apparently comes form the dictionary of obscure sorrows and it's definition is "nostalgia for a time you've never known") needless to say all that combined scratched an itch i didn't even know i had. i'll probably be screwin around with fanart stuff but aww man it felt good getting something out even if it's as simple as this

@Lensing same! I struggle with proportions so a foundation is a must. Im not brave enough to try shapes now so kudos to u !:raised_hands:

@Kelheor so pretty :heart_01: And yeah ik how that feels... Its good you got a good sketch afterward, bc in my case that would be art block fuel :cry_01:

@bunny well, can't be productive every day after all :supicious_stache: but yeah, if you already feel bad, it definitely won't help :pumpkin: and thanks! I would've never guess doing a study can be a way out of time spent unproductive, but suddenly it works. Maybe it's just a good month for me though xD

@Aleksei man, this one rocks! I had to do the mecha for another comic, and it's so hard even though I've made it as non-square as possible x) When constructing it I looked through a ton of sketches from Transformers and some other mecha artbooks and they were aaaaabsolutely fascinating, I think my jaw dropped with every small detail sketch hahaha

@Lensing I got so used to drawing with HB pencils back at school I am afraid to even buy others xD not sure if I will be able to use them properly anyway

Many thanks my friend glad you find him cool  cant wait to post more soon. Broken Glass sketches lookin awesome and love the blond model studies look hot. Broken brain = epic work :grinning::+1::star:

@candiedcotton dont worry your shading look awesome on the hair i mention previously. The sketch lines look awesome, like how u got the wrinkles under eye. Keep it up:+1:

@Lensing the construction lines look intersting, with the way you captured rounded shapes. I usu accustom to drawing with sharp angles. :art:

@bulgariansumo ur welcome. Yep promo art is always fun , true next time ud be ready for them :muscle: keep it up :grinning:

Man, I'm just tired today for some reason.

Anyhow, say cheese.

The guy on the right's ridiculous outfit is due to his being very convinced that he's some sort of vigilante of justice. Unfortunately, he just comes off as an S&M weirdo to most people.

well how was it??

I love this so much and I can't lie lol
Also yeah, I really love painterly styles too, I wish they were easier to draw on everyday occasion :pumpkin:

I dunno what's this day, but I am eating flatbread, reading Lovecraft and everything hurts lol. Gil is anime.

I didn't let the transformer win. I decided to give it a go to do it like it should, and I like the results =D

The funny thing was that I had already dismissed the idea of drawing the transformer, and just by magic I opened a tutorial of rules in CSP, and I wasn't searching for that, it was a happy finding, and showed how to draw a motorcycle only with rules. Then it just hit my head -forget the motorcycle, put the transformer in there!! And decided to do this. It took my hours, but its a effective way to do transformers and robots.

Duuuude, that's so dope, awesome job :hype_01: could you please share the tutorial? :open_mouth:

@Kelheor - Sure! Most of the tutorial is about rules and their options. Nothing really useful if you know how to use rules. At the end of the tutorial it shows how to use the rules for drawing, and that, even when its very simple and easy, was an eye opener. Its on spanish but its easy to follow just by the pictures.

@candiedcotton - Thank you very much!! Those are the colors of the constructicons, so I didn't have to do much. My biggest contribution was to color the ground, and add some fill colors to unify everything =P

I am in a roll today!!!!
I just came to tell you people, I think I learned how to color!
In twitter there is a thread of people giving their game changers in making art, and there was this one person who showed the videos below. I saw them, and applied them to the drawing I am showing you know, and I tell you -IT WORKS!!!
I never learned how to choose colors until now Of course, I still have to learn how to properly paint, but really, just look at this excercise I did after watching the videos!

I urge you all to go and see if it can improve your own color schemes.

Hell yeah, I need to get better at coloring. Thanks for sharing.

That pic gives me Spawn vibes. Spawn was my greatest inspiration for becoming an artist so that's really awesome.

@apini welcome! :smug_01:

In a nutshell.

I am actually really happy with this month of being obsessed with sketching Gil, so yeah. Even if I won't continue it in February, it was great and I feel like I learned a lot about him, which is... refreshing.

 poor guy. I think he's looking forward to February. I like seeing the many creative takes on his emotions of dread.

Also the closing show was great. It was pretty awesome to see people look at my pieces in person. Also glad I can say I've been a part of an exhibition like that.

@Kelheor I dunno why it never occurred to me that u had brown hair :joy: my brain can't comprehend the idea of people not looking like their avatar even tho thats not the case lol its a lovely illustration nonetheless :heart_02: Oh I used to look like my avatar but not anymore. pastel pink is a tremendously difficult color to maintain for a black haired person  still same haircut tho

started a redraw of one of my last year's art :hype_01:

@bunny Hahaha yeah, I had full head of pink hair eh... 3 years ago now? xD Now I barely have like 10 cm of them. It was great and I still hope to visit a colorist... Maybe this summer :see_no_evil:
Oh, a redraw! Can't wait to see the finished thing, I love redraws :smirk: the shading on the original is really nice too

@Kelheor Same! Well my colorist fed up and ruined my hair so now I do it at home on my own :sweat_02: Had purple then blue for a while. Now its a shade of gray. Coloring hair is fun!
Im excited for the redraw too :hype_01:

@Kelheor Nice! "love Jasmine tea" and "dislike ASMR". I also never knew Darkstrong did coloring

I got to show 4 pieces which was awesome. I had the Paired Nubian Pieces (1 pinned on my IG), The African Wild dog one and the Newer Nubian Goat. I realized 4 pieces was almost my entire collection of finished stuff so I'm going to make lots of variations this year.

@Lensing nice work on the eyebrow expression.

@Lensing it's great how you draw the shapes underneath. I would die doing those every time

@MerrowBros glad to see you back! :grinning: Missed your bold shapes!

@LCT_m_a_d well, he is a flatter, so I guess we can call him that 🤭
Ah yes, these are totally great! Looking awesome all framed
