There is something I can't understand between Webtoon and Tapastic

When I started my story in Webtoons I share it here as well. but in webtoon, I start gain subscribe and comments every day. and little by little I got what I wanted from this story. but in tapastic is so hard. is so complex, I can't understand why we should be active in from or other people's story to get more subs. also... there is MANY good stories here that haven't seen. that breaks my heart.
doesn't matter how to update you are, no one going to check about the fresh part. tapastic just help popular stories get more popular and new stories keep begin poorly... !

I can't understand it, I'm so new here, is there something wrong with my knowledge? I can't understand why am I the only one who feel this way.

Also, the updating story here is different, in webtoons people keep asking for longer stories. but here, just a little short illustration get over 1k likes and many comments and subs. I just like "HOW??! OvO" you know...

And please don't misunderstand, I'm not anyone's hater or anything. I just can't understand the world I living in. LOL

That's something I tend to ponder as well.
When I joined webtoons, my reader count skyrocketed. I currently have over 3k subs on there (about to reach 4k), but I'm still in the 800's here on Tapastic. I figured it was because my story is a straight romance, while most of the popular comics on here are BL and such. Webtoons has more of a variety I think, a lot more straight romance fans there anyway.
Also, the audience in Webtoons consists more of regular comic readers, while most of the readers on tapastic are usually comic creators themselves. So generally the regular comic readers on Webtoons will expect more content, because most of them aren't artists, they just want more comics. Most of the people on tapastic don't mind smaller updates, because they're also artists who understand your busy schedule.
This is just my take on it though.

I think about this a lot, I wish there were more things for the small creators. I'm scared to post on webtoons though because I feel like they are harder critics and I barely like my own content haha

Actually, I think the trending section is basically dedicated to small authors. I hear that algorithm used in the trending section actually favors small authors instead of large ones. Really large authors, however, also make it onto the trending page because their immense popularity overcomes the favoritism towards small authors. Webtoons, on the other hand, simply has a much larger audience which means more potential viewers, subscribers, commenters, etc.
Also, since webtoons is more reader centered, readers want more content, but Tapastic is creator based and you're more likely to find people who aren't necessarily here for stories, but rather art.

I am starting a new comic and I posted it on webtoon first (but I will post on tapas soon ) because I thought it was more easy going and relaxed, but I think you are right, some critics might be harsh because there is a wider audience and so, more haters. But you shouldn't be scared about that.
And also don't focus too much on the bad ( or don't focus on it at all ) just post it. I am sure many people would be just glad to read you.

One reason for the difficulty of new creators taking off is that Tapastic is focusing most of their growth efforts on the app and not the website. Since the app has a lot less "prime real estate" the app tends to heavily focus on the popular series. For example, getting to the "trending" section takes multiple taps where as on Tapastic it's right there on the homepage in easy view.

With being so busy, I've yet to check out Webtoons…so I can't compare the two. Is the difference really that significant? I look at the progress I've made on Tapastic and am pretty pleased. The app and site have so much potential (which is why I enjoy being on here) but if Webtoons is proposing better opportunities……

Gahhh! Making a Webtoon is just adding more work x___x

Yeah, that's something I wondered for a while myself, Every time I update on webtoons I get at least 200+ readers in a day but it took me two years just to get 600 readers on here. My webtoons sub count is almost caught up with my Tapastic one. Kinda wish I gave Webtoons a chance sooner.

I have said this before but like a lot of others point out, Tapastic is filled with more creator rather than reader, and creators have their stuffs to do, hence why they can't be as active as reader in checking out new comic. Combine that with the fact Webtoon usually has 5 times or more visits than Tapastic daily and you can do the simple math.

Also another factor is the way Discover section on webtoon works compare to the Fresh section Tapastic offers. On Webtoon, often than not you get complaint for posting one page daily, people rather you combine all of them together and give them a long update. It's why new comic being posted to Webtoon has higher chance of staying on the front page of the new section compare to Tapastic which has 823902321 comics update almost every minutes around the clock.

Beside that, Webtoon's discover offers a lot more visibility for comics be it small or large. They have weekly hot, popular by genres along with a recommended titles that changes up pretty frequently with different series no matter how big or small.

They also have a visible side bar with top popular comics that changes up every week. I know people will complain "only the big subs count comic will make it on there!" but that's only half the truth. Comic only stay on the list for 1 week no more, and after that if you haven't updated a new episode, you are off the list. Same thing happens when you are on the list but you update a new episode, you will immediately get taken off of the list because the list keep count of the amount of active view/comment on your latest update. This give new series a ton of visibility chance to pop up on the list, and even a few hours is a lot to draw in new readers! (That, combines with the fact people on Webtoon are more likely to update weekly or biweekly :D)

Personally speaking, I'm more scared of posting on Tapastic, maybe it's just because I'm heavily under the impression this is a creator's ground, and creators are always a lot more judgmental when it comes to series that they would take a liking to, unlike on Webtoon which is more of a reader place. Anyone can take a liking to your series just because they like your art, your premise, or some of the most silly stuff. (With that said because they are readers, they fail to understand a creator's pain, so some of them might come out a entitled, that is understandable.)

Ooh so true, about the entitlement thing.
Got one comment my first month on there like "WHAT THE FUCK? Another short update? This is BULLSHIT." I was not happy, because I work my ass off on my pages. I (calmly) chewed them out. They apologized immediately and claimed they were just in a bad mood at the time. That's when I realized this was much more of a reader based website and that most of them don't understand the struggles artists go through. I also changed my page schedule immediately after that, to post 3-4 pages every couple of weeks rather than a page a week. They liked that better, and so did I actually. It really helped improve my drawing speed.

Part of the reason might be because it's easier to find stories you'll like on webtoons in the discover section like "Oh you want fantasy? Well here's some recently updated fantasy comics for you to check out!" This will keep you in this tiny spotlite much longer while with Tapastic it's all just jammed into one section and people are updating all the time so every comic quickly gets buried.

There IS a way to browse by genre, but it's kinda easy to overlook on Tapastic, which is probably a problem. Go to Comics page and use the dropdown menu that says "all genres."

Community-wise, it's the opposite The fact that most of Tapastic's community are creators makes them more understanding of the art, the lenght of your updates, potential hiatuses... And most can see the potential when they see how much your art improved between your last and first episodes.

On webtoon, about half of the comments I get are "TOO SHORT !" or "PLEASE UPDATE MORE OFTEN" sometimes without even a passing remark about the content of the episode (mind you, I never take them the wrong way, it means they want more of it, which is good !)

My theory is that as they're used to the featured comics which are from paid artists who have to upload a 20 000px ep once a week, they have a consumer approach to all of the comics they read and often don't understand why the author from the discover section can't produce as much.

What I like about webtoons is that I don't have to search too much in order to find a comic that I like, the web is really friendly, at least for me, I like the list at the end more popular by genre or by age group, also in the serialized series they pay the authors so I know they will keep the schedule and the quality is ok .

Most of the comics I follow here I discover them thanks to the forums.. because even when I search it by genre they don't suit my taste so much. So webtoons make my job easier...

Going back to the main topic I believe the web design and editing job (serialized webtoons or staff picks) also counts, and like other people say here, the fact that here are more creators

Hi!

I started on tapastic about a month ago and then I started to also post on webtoons. I've also noticed the views on webtoons rack up quicker than that of tapastic. I'm not sure but I did post everything that I had on tapastic already there in a day and my views surpassed that of tapastic in a day.

Nonetheless, both are now equal in numbers and subscribers since I've updated today, so I'm not fully sure what people mean when they get more views on webtoons than that of tapastic. I find them both difficult to gain viewership but that hasn't stopped me from being consistent. Maybe my comic just sucks for the majority of viewers but I love making it. lol. XD
