But trash talking occurs in EVERY professional combat sport. It has a long historical lineage from Muhammad Ali to Conner McGregor. The things you hear in the clinch or guard would make a proper Lady blush like the setting desert sun.

Professional Wrestling is actually the opposite as they don't talk smack to each other, they give directions for the next move. They talk smack to/for the crowd.

Once you say "Anyone who at least tried to study martial arts, know..." you are saying if anyone took martial arts, they must agree with you. That is not a reference to an opinion. That is a statement pertaining to all martial artists to bolster their stance. And those who do not fit the criteria (in at least trying to train) do not have enough of a reference to disagree.

You're making logic mistake here. The statement "those who did the training would confirm my words" doesn't imply statement "those who didn't try to train, don't have a right to disagree".

I can name at least 10 reasons why that statement is false.

I clearly wrote, that I'm talking about the moment inside of "serious sparring". I thought it was obvious, that I meant exactly fight round of sparring. Not the moment during the break or discussions before/after.

I think you got my point.
What I don't like about speeches during combat is when it violates time.
Like the huge info dump while a punch is being thrown.

Like the writer and illustrator couldn't quite figure out when and where to put the dialogue so it occurs in mid-action.
I also cringe when the speech doesn't match the action- like the character is being shot and talking.
If you can put the "Ughnn" at the end of the paragraph, we understand they spoke and then got shot.

Weird when they skip that.

When a character says what should be going through their mind aloud, especially when no one else is in the room. Or starts waxing poetic, but it's out of character and clearly just something cool the author thought of.

I also get annoyed at the "not like other girls" stuff.

On a more extreme level, body horror. I don't like watching a lot of scary/violent films for this reason.

When a writer tries to be smart and flip a cliche on it's head, but just ends up accidentally recreating the cliche (or worse laughing a their own cliche without actually fixing it). For example in Frozen, they're so focused on not doing the Disney thing where they get married that she dumps Hans, but also she and Kristoff are basically together at the end anyways. In the next movie they're ready to marry. They're also too obvious with their subversion. Like instead of not having romance at all they're having romance just to show they're not going to have romance. It's way too in your face and on the nose.

I also made a similar error when trying to make a vampire comic. Because there's a trope that vampire's a sexy and get together with teen girls, I wanted to make a gay priest vampire, hahagetitbecausehecantmarry. Problem is it was swallow as heck and that's what usually happens when you're too literal with flipping cliches.

Hmmm... you are right. I didn't think about things like clinch and grappling.

I initially started to talk, laying down on my experience with knife fights. Fights between hero and villain often use cold weapons, so I started to talk, having in mind this thing. In knife fight long clinches are rare, because usually they lead to "notional death" of one or both fighters quickly enough. Clinches and grappling on the floor in hand-to-hand fight seems to be different situation in essence. This is true that fighters can throw a couple of words on each other during it, so, strictly saying, my exact statement "in the very moment when you'll distract yourself, you'll get a punch in the face" becomes wrong in this situation.
However, it still doesn't justify 5/10/15-minutes-philosophic-monologues during the battle. It's something very far from "trash talking" you're talking about, so I can't imagine situation, when they would make such things.

I agree that trash talking happens in real combat. Part of the fight is psychological warfare to trick the opponent into making a mistake or breaking their spirits. But the truth is that there are not chances for extremely long speeches during a battle.

In an attempt to show off the sensitive side to a love interest (usually a guy), they get walked in on while playing an instrument, usually the piano. The other person will lean on something in the background and listen in, musing about the emotions of either the player or the music.
I can admit that I am ignorant when it comes to interpreting music, but I don't believe it when a character thinks they can tell how much emotion is going into a piece of music. Very subjective and always feels like they're trying to impose their presumptions on another person.

In general, cheesy romantic gestures that rely on some form of expression; music, song - and worst of all - dance, are things that I find cringe-y when reading novels. Maybe because I know that I, personally, would find it incredibly embarrassing in real life.

I don't like the cliche part of that kind of scene, however, I don't find it impossible at all. Music is one of my main ways to both experience, and express, emotions. If both protagonists are very sensitive to music, it's totally possible.

Can we just- If I end up reading or watching something that has a musician and it has these tropes of everyone starting to hallucinate a whole bunch of scenery or colors, and analyzing the emotions of everything and somehow getting insight on a character's past.. boi-

I can get lost in the music, sure, but it'll never be anything like this???

I can appreciate it for the sake of stuff being a visual or descriptive art, but the musician in me kinda disagrees with the presentation. I guess it'd be more for those who aren't as involved in that world who might also need a more tangible way to feel the relationship between the music and the musician, so it's fine in that aspect.. sort of? But to me, it's literally just the literal sound coming out, the emotions that you interpret from it, and your own reaction. In both listening and playing music.
