Hi all,

So, like many here, I started my current comic with print in mind, because I'm old and that's my default. And I want to keep the print option, because I like buying collected editions of my favorite webcomics, and want to be able to offer that at some point.

All that said, it has dawned on me that cutting the page up into panels, arranging them vertically, and doubling the size of the balloons... would be pretty simple and easy to do. I work entirely digitally, and this step wouldn't need to add more than 20 minutes per page. I'd still make the comic as pages, and I'd still have all those pages, but for publishing here (and on webtoons) I could easily convert to a format that is readable on a phone.

So I'm thinking of doing all future updates (I'm at episode 23) in this format, and gradually going back and converting older episodes when I can.

As I'm probably about the billionth person to arrive at this conclusion, I'd love to hear pros and cons from people who've done this or wrestled with this. I don't think I would even bother to try reading my own comic if I only had a phone; that feels like needlessly excluding a large audience. AND I feel like younger readers are more likely to use a phone; my comic is basically a middle-grade story, so I'm starting to think it's especially important to be accessible to that age group. Anyway, sound off, tell me what I need to know.

I think that's a great idea! Different people use different devices to read, but I reckon more are using their mobiles now, especially since Tapas launched their app.
Just a tip for you though, is rather than arranging all the panels in one straight line, try zig-zagging them instead. I think it looks better that way.

yep thats what i do, adds a bit more time to the overall process but it'll be easier to read online & you'll still be able to print later

Just uploaded three pages in mobile format and had a read-through, and it pretty much sealed the deal for me. Easy to do, easier to read; it's a win-win.
