I kinda agree though I get frustrated trying to find other contest entries since there is no way to know for sure (only the author outright telling they're entering is the sure way). I did see people saying they're entering though while putting up "covers" as episodes and as far as I understood they want you to only post full episodes so...?
That’s true. I can imagine that the genre and the type of comic can dictate how much trouble you attract in the comments, even though you don’t have anything evil in mind.
I have established couples (so no ship wars), no politics or social commentary, neither do I address any serious issues which could trigger bad emotions or such. On top of that I’m not that popular, so folks who just want to troll out of spite and jealousy probably don’t even know I exist (let’s hope it stays that way xD)
The worst comment I got so far was a dude who called us stupid when we published a Q&A about our work process. But compared to what I read here about other’ experiences, that’s pretty petty stuff.
Thanks for the clear up Michi!
Also I think I'm going crazy but I'm re-reading the rules again and again, and did they...? Change this part?
i was so sure it used to say "no previous existing discover titles allowed, but spin offs and etc allowed" also "self published works also not allowed" and so forth? I can't find this anywhere on the rules, or I glossed over it...
Hmp I don’t think they ever said no previous existing discover series allowed. If anything I was sure it’s more along the line of “currently existing discover series isn’t allowed to be submitted but you will need to reupload it as a brand new series.” My friend was confused about that too tho so she emailed them and they clarified (in the screenshot I provided) there is no need for you to even take down the currently existing comic on discover, just resubmit it as a brand new series. Or that’s what I gathered.
Also maybe they did change some wording to avoid confusion?
I just saw their tweet they posted 4 hours ago that they updated their FAQ8 LOL ok so I'm not going crazy then.
Thanks for the help on clarification!!
I'm....I'm going to try LOL
Me and my friend were already working on a new story for this contest, but, after I found out you can submit an existing series, I back-tracked a bit...however I feel like if I wanted to re-submit, I might draw some sort of reboot bc it's kind of my chance to improve it :')
Good luck to you and everyone else in the contest as well
(ignore that other withdrawn post lol i somehow posted twice for some reason...)
If you're using "Fictional Skin"
You might want to read this:
"7. Can I submit a series that was previously published elsewhere?
You may submit a series that was previously self-published online as long as you fully own the series and have exclusive and direct control over it. You cannot submit a series that was previously published by a publisher (online and/or offline). You cannot submit a series that was previously printed offline for circulation, including self-publishing."

This pretty much disqualified most of our comics except one which is "Start-Up!"
Oh hey, this is actually what I was looking for! I forgot this part was in the FAQ and not in the rules. It's why I originally opted Fictional Skin out for the contest, and was confused for a sec about their requirements involving previously self-published series. Thanks for the clear up!
I sent them an email to ask if re-draws or reboots are ok, despite the self-publication existing, just to be sure.
I did a double take reading the updated FAQ. Wait wait. Just making sure I'm not somehow taking this wrong bc I'm an idiot hyped on adrenaline.
We are allowed to submit old comics from Discover.
We just have to reupload. We ARE allowed to keep the old one up. The only reason we have to reupload is to enter the contest itself. We don't have to change anything about it (unless we chose to revise to make it better).
Okay, this is definitely going to be confusing for readers, but now I'm contemplating improving on Hellish to enter this. 0__0 The only reason I didn't join was because I didn't want to abandon the characters and storyline I put so much thought into (I don't have time to do 2 comics). Ahhhh
Ahhhhhhh
You can enter using "Hellish" but you need to find a smart way to differentiate the two if you are intending to keep both of the same comics.
For us, we just decided to delete the old comic and start fresh. (I don't suggest for you to do this since you will start at zero and lose some of your audience).
Webtoons are just making sure you own 100% of your comic and that you didn't publish it anywhere else under a publisher, online or offline.
