I just started making webcomics this past November, and have been doing it mostly as a hobby. I've been doing everything mostly on paper and ink, (the old fashioned, and long way). I currently have two chapters published. Is it "bad" to update monthly, will my readers become uninterested, if I post on a monthly basis?

I actually have chapters 3 and 4 ready to go, but wanted to reserve them so that I can basically have a buffer period to create more content. so it doesn't feel like Im playing catch up.

Thoughts?

Here's my 2 cents: with the current situation (both on tapas and webtoon) of so many self-published comics, you need to be very patient and persistent. I was publishing my series every 12 days, but gosh it feels like eternity to build readership (I'm rebuilding it so I can publish at faster rate).

I think updating monthly is a totally valid strategy, especially with the sort of length you seem to be able to produce  The most important thing when you're first starting out though is to just pick a pace and schedule that works for you, regardless of what that is. Make sure that you're not trying to do too much and move too fast or it can easily lead to burn out. If once a month is comfortable for you for now, just stick to it, use those other chapters for buffer (buffer is ALWAYS a good idea. I just finished my first 70 page comic today and it took about 15 months of work. I let my buffer run out around month... 5 or6 and didn't have one afterwards. it sucked LOL) and go for it!
