There are lots of lovely stories here, and bittersweet ones, too...gah, it all just looks so 'normal'. I guess what I've gleaned from TV and movies wasn't too far off the mark. ^^;
As I promised, I guess I should divulge a little, too. It only seems fair.
My situation was messy and weird, like everything in my life. One minute nothing was happening, and the next minute one parent was arrested, and the rest of the family was literally homeless: we were in a shelter, and I never realized how grave the situation was until years later. I'm kinda glad I was such a dense kid; it probably spared me a lot of suffering. XD
Fast forward to a year or two later, the parent who was arrested is no longer...arrested (I honestly don't even know what happened, legally...I should probably ask), both parents are officially divorced, and now we kids have to be shared between them and listen to them antagonize each other all the time.
THAT, I was actually aware of. But it didn't bother me or my siblings that much...it made sense that they hated each other, considering all the events that I now know led up to the divorce. The only big problem was having to defend our choices when we took sides...nowadays, it's much easier, though. Both parents see themselves as the 'real' parent, and the other one as a mere tool for car rides and stuff, which might sound awful but at least it's peaceful. ^^
I guess their only connection to each other now, is...the horror stories they have to tell about each other. Some of those stories are just lies, though, and we all know which ones. =_= I won't lie; one parent in this situation is a real kook who's probably delusional, and that makes things a LOT simpler than it would be in a normal divorce. You always know which parent to take seriously and which one to just nod at while they rant for 2 hours...
