ima second @punkarsenic with witchy6! its a really cool comic and the trans girl innit is hecka bomb. shes the coolest character so far i think
@trustyshamrock oh man witchy has been my comic crush for quite a bit now, it is indeed amazing!! Now i have a good ol list of comic to look into though, these recs are amazing <3
Thanks everyone!
I do have a character who is sexless however everyone refers to him as male. His lack of sex never really comes into play in the story tho except for the fact that he is sterile.
His mother (which has not been introduced) is also sexless but identifies as a woman. When she was originally created (in the context of the story), she was gendered male, however through shape shifting magic, she turned herself into a woman. Everyone calls her Mother and there is a cult built around her. Apparently she is able to reproduce with both males and females.
I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for.
Define "good".
The comics I know of have already been recommended, @phoenixrenaissance already beat me to the punch with Tagpackers. If there were any others I wouldn't know, unfortunately I'm really bad with gender unless the author, or person irl just flat out announces it. I'm not sure what you yourself would consider trans (some think only ftm and mtf count, some think all genders outside of cis count), but I myself have a non-binary main and a mtf reoccurring side character. Gender issues do come up at some point, since the second main character is transphobic, but it's not a major theme. I wouldn't really recommend my comic unless you're alright with dark subjects, the occasional graphic violence and melodrama.
OH MAN
Goodbye To Halos9 is one and it's great~
i love it so much! the art is cute, the characters are like, CRAZY AWESOME, and its just so wonderful in many ways.
Oops, just remembered that you can check the trans tag on The Slash Pile10, a blog run by the same person who runs LGBT Tagpackers. The blog is mainly about reviews, so you can get an idea of the comic before jumping into it. You can't filter it by hosting site, but it's usually easy to tell what comic is on Tapastic from the links.
Lmao! Alright, if you don't mind here is a link5. Unfortunately the comic is only 30 pages so far, so it's not very "deep" so far.
Oh, um. Since it kinda gets mistaken as one a lot, I will say my comic is not a bl. Despite the "gay romance" vibes, the summery of a guy and his childhood friend is rather literal.
You got a pretty awesome comic by the way, love the style and the spin you put on the zombie apocalypse concept. Also congrats on the staff pick!
Not on Tapastic, but I really like Immortal Nerd3 where some of the characters are trans and non-binary. I'd say it's a really humorous and respectful comic at once, and I really love the characters <3
Also, I really like this thread, a lot of nice comics to take a look at <3
Heeeeyyy Yes my comic5 has several canon trans characters, although like others have said this aspect isn't a huge part of their story.
The main character's grandfather is a trans man
And there are more canon trans characters yet to come!
(And I should note that it's totally up to interpretation to interpret any of the characters as trans even if I don't say it, I'm that kinda guy
:')
ha #_#
I'm just saying, the whole reason why I made the character in the first place is because 10years ago when I started this, I wouldn't dare to tell anyone that I wanted to be a girl, so I settled for making myself a female charcter that would secretly be me all along. but I was and currently still am a guy, so that's the real reason why she is really a guy. but that's not something most people would really need to know so I usually don't bring it up.
Have you read What Sexual?4 The main character in that series is trans. Fair warning the series does have things in it that can get a bit touchy like self-harm and sexual harassment to name a few.
I think that is less of a trans character and more of just a persona. Or a drag queen (man who dresses like a woman and takes on a female persona but still identifies as a man). A drag queen is not the same as trans tho.
Don't feel too ashamed about these types of characters. I've made similar characters when I was younger and struggling with my identity. I have seen other writers do similar things. Tove Jansson (creator of Moomin) said her male main character was suppose to represent her.
I would really recommend Khaos Komix1. It's a completed comic that is not on Tapastic and it's pretty old. One of the main character is trans and in a love with a gay guy who doesn't know he was born a girl. The character development is brilliant and reflects the reality of trans people.
Seconding the recommendation of What-Sexual??5, River Kai isn't afraid to go to darker areas with the series.
Er, I myself have a trans character in my series Demon House, she's only a secondary character but I assure you her gender isn't the focus of her character.
I do have a trans protagonist in a story I'm working on; he's in his forties and it's a romance. I hope to start publishing that one day.
