Trans characters in comics?

techically I guess I have a female character that used to be a male character in my old comics
but it's mentioned maybe only 5 times in 500 episodes that she's really a guy
also it's not that kind of comic to begin with
so I guess this post was pointless x.x

My main character from SPIRE Blaise is a trans guy. It's not really a major part of his arc since he's already post-op and fully transitioned but it'll be touched on a few times in the story. My character Cog is also a trans girl, and the hunters are all nonbinary and use they/them pronouns.

Fun story, I have a lesbian character and just recently learned that she actually has both genders.

How I didn't know something like that from my own character? Well, she's from a plant people race, and one day doing research I found out that a lot (if not most) plants posses both genders, they sprout male flowers, female flowers and genderless flowers.

So I thought this was a nice way to include the LGBT communities in my stories without falling on stereotypes or making it look forced. But, any of them is still far from appearing in the comic

No Future Hannah, one of main supporting characters is male to female transgendered. It's not what the comic revolves around but is part of her character and what she goes through in her life, so it's something that'll often come up, as it's part of both her growing up as well as the people around her accepting her and the changes she's making.

There's a couple characters in my comic, Paisley Brickstone, who are trans, although one of them is more a minor character so far (Haven, who shows up in the prolog, but won't show up in the main story until chapter 2), and the other hasn't shown up yet but is one of the more important characters (Pierce, who does show up in chapter 1 and who's journey is about learning to deal with anger, which flares up a lot around his twin brother, Fenmore, who has a lot of masculine insecurity but is not trans). There's also a nonbinary kid who's shown up in the Prolog, Quinn (who uses he and they pronouns). I haven't decided yet if any others are since I leave gender pretty ambiguous with a lot of the kids, but yeah. I'm avoiding self discovery stuff involving gender, and focusing on self discovery involving peeling away the insecurity most, if not all, teens go through during their time in school. It's still pretty early on so a lot of this stuff is not going to be evident at all, yet, but it'll gradually roll out over time.

My comic Welcome Back has a male character identifies as female for the most part in a dreamworld they inhabit. There are also two twins who are trans and alot of non binary characters, such as the shadows which are mostly genderless. I do explore more of these things in short stories I plan to upload when it's finished on taptastic.

Balor in my comic is not exactly trans, due to being part of an ancient, fictional, non-human culture, but her culture's understanding of gender is very different and basically that its irrelevant, and Balor starts identifying with human womanhood later soo??? Not Cis Anyway. Cath is also not cis, but im still working out the backstory elements and im unsure whether shes a trans girl or, like me, a dfab nonbinary girl - her assigned/percieved gender is important to her story so its undecided until ive figured that out lol.

besides webcomics, i know that in print comics:

• the wicked and the divine features a trans woman in the recurring cast, but i dont think shes treated as well as she should be
• jem and the holograms has a side character who's a trans woman, and its generally a fun comic to sit down with
• the BACKSTAGERS (which i am personally invested in as a backstager in training) is really cute and has a trans boy character, and the artist is also transmasc. i really like how they revealed the character was trans bc it was just him, sitting around, in a binder, and then later on talk abt when he used to go to the girls school nearby. like its really natural and its nice. its published by boom! studios, who likely make more comics with trans characters because theyre perfect like that

no beef but if shes a girl and 'used to be a guy' then shes a girl, not actually a guy. saying shes 'actually a guy' is transphobic. as is the implication that a comic featuring trans characters is some kind that garners italics??

I do have a character who is sexless however everyone refers to him as male. His lack of sex never really comes into play in the story tho except for the fact that he is sterile.

His mother (which has not been introduced) is also sexless but identifies as a woman. When she was originally created (in the context of the story), she was gendered male, however through shape shifting magic, she turned herself into a woman. Everyone calls her Mother and there is a cult built around her. Apparently she is able to reproduce with both males and females.

I'm not sure if that is what you are looking for.

The comics I know of have already been recommended, @phoenixrenaissance already beat me to the punch with Tagpackers. If there were any others I wouldn't know, unfortunately I'm really bad with gender unless the author, or person irl just flat out announces it. I'm not sure what you yourself would consider trans (some think only ftm and mtf count, some think all genders outside of cis count), but I myself have a non-binary main and a mtf reoccurring side character. Gender issues do come up at some point, since the second main character is transphobic, but it's not a major theme. I wouldn't really recommend my comic unless you're alright with dark subjects, the occasional graphic violence and melodrama.

Oops, just remembered that you can check the trans tag on The Slash Pile, a blog run by the same person who runs LGBT Tagpackers. The blog is mainly about reviews, so you can get an idea of the comic before jumping into it. You can't filter it by hosting site, but it's usually easy to tell what comic is on Tapastic from the links.

Dude im totes fine with these themes lolol my comic will tackle some of them at certain points (i mean, zombies, we gotta go there) and yEAH trans is much more of an umbrella term to me (mtf, ftm, genderfluid, nonbinary, etc)

Oh, um. Since it kinda gets mistaken as one a lot, I will say my comic is not a bl. Despite the "gay romance" vibes, the summery of a guy and his childhood friend is rather literal.
You got a pretty awesome comic by the way, love the style and the spin you put on the zombie apocalypse concept. Also congrats on the staff pick!

Not on Tapastic, but I really like Immortal Nerd where some of the characters are trans and non-binary. I'd say it's a really humorous and respectful comic at once, and I really love the characters <3

I don't have any in my own comic, and I haven't really found any webcomic with trans characters (beside some of those already mentioned in this thread), but the manga Deadman Wonderland has a trans woman in the main cast called Chaplin Sukegawa.
