So I've had SAI for a little while now and I've decided I really need help with things like coloring and linework and well... everything else.
So if you have any advice or anything like that, that would be really helpful smile

Here is some advice go make your own brushes or find some else's and mess with the settings to get what you want/need. I don't like the defaults so I have my own custom brushes, which solves a lot of problems of things not looking right. I thought coloring and line work was a universal thing, I use the same techniques traditionally as I do in Photoshop/Sai/Clip Studio so I'm not sure if there is anything specific for sai.

Two tutorials I saw one day for two different techniques of coloring.

Rule #1: The Stabilizer

Your patron saint and deity. The higher the number, the more controlled and slower your strokes are, so if you have especially rickety hands or lines, this will make your lineart look sexy and smooth. If you want fast strokes then you set it to 0 or some other low number.

Ok, but depending on your style there's a lot of ways to lineart...
I personally try to make my lines perfect so I can just magic wand the base colours in because ain't nobody got time for that shit. Some people do it sketchy but then you gotta do the base colours manually.

As you can see I failed to close the lines at her shoulders so the skin colour bled out of the lineart.

I suggest trying youtube. There's a TON of speed-paints that are fun to watch. DeviantArt has many tutorials for specific things. Really, though, it depends on what you want to learn. Sometimes a bunch of random tutorials are fun. Other-times, it's better to concentrate on one area to improve and practice before going on to another. finding different ways to achieve the same effect can be gloriously helpful.

Everyone linked tutorials already, but I just want to stress not to use SAI's vector tool for lineart. I've tried and compared it to using the regular brush tool and the vector is just stiff and awful.

I dunno how much you would use it, but if you ever want to make a circle in SAI you can use the Curve tool for the Lineart layer. Click anywhere on the canvas and, keeping your mouse where it is, hit Delete (it'll tilt your canvas). After that, still without moving mouse keep alternating between mouse clicks and pressing Delete and you'll make a perfect circle. Remember to double click in closing the circle off.

I'm sharing this because I was like HOMG when I first found out XD
