Unpopular comic opinions?

Well this is gonna bite me in the ass later but...
Most comic that advertises itself as LgbtQ(in the summary above everything else) tend to not be very good.

This is mostly because they are either follow very boring characters in attempts to be "realistic" rather than entertaining. Many I find have very interesting premises but they mostly a tiny side notes, making me wonder why the settling isn't just the real world rather than some where interesting that is not explored. Their humor way too TAAAAMe, weak and dull(like the creators are afraid of putting the characters in any inconvinces).

I have the same opinion when regarding a lot of slice of life webcomic strips, They are just boring, boring, boring to me and generally stop reading after a certain point.

So I'm not trying to change your opinion, but I personally don't feel like a hobby has to be something you do without profit. In fact I have always felt like pursuing hobbies that can pay for themselves. To me the difference lies in how much money you are trying to make and your goals with the hobby. To me if your goal is to make enough money that you can quit your day job and become a full-time comic artist - No this is not a hobby. But if you have no intention of making this your full-time job(even if that opportunity presents itself to you) then I would call you a hobbyist. To some people the social aspect of sharing stuff online is just part of the hobby. I personally love all of the comments and they are definitely such a fun part of the process!

I'll have to give more thought to my own unpopular opinion, I keep trying to think of ones and I think a lot of my opinions are controversy to say but not necessarily unpopular (just things most people wouldn't admit publically)

I have to agree with Freemints on that one. And also add some of those are waaaay too preachy! They are so busy preaching their views they forget to tell a story.

I think you should absolutely go back and redo your old comic art if you're serious about your work. Art evolution: the only people who enjoy it aren't new readers.

gotta be honest most lgbt stories are just yaoi/yuri/shoujo-ai/etc for western audiences but with some political narrative.

Your kickbutt female lead has to be one of two extremes, or the 50/50 fix perfect Disney child.

• Pink, glitter, shoujo, cutesy, kawaii AF, puffy long BLOND hair, social butterfly
• Black, goth, h@t3s lyfe, is recluse, likely made to be super gruff and manly, or tsundere
• 50/50 Disney child, cute and blond and social but a total ditz (looking at you Hannah Montana/Miley character)

None of the female kickbutt leads can just be a mix of elements - where the girl isn't drop dead gorgeous, but likes to work on machines - and then piles on alllll of the make-up to put her face on, and freaks out when people see her grungey and gross. I get that part of the point of stories is to explain someone finding themselves, but if I see a girl covered in paint and terpentine and overalls, I don't want her to just take a 15min shower and be shoujo cutesy that fast. Do you know how hard it is to get paint out of your hair? DO YOU REALLY KNOW?
And if she is covered in paint, she still turns into the pink-floofy character. Give me a healthy mix that's a real person for gods sake and don't make them be all "I'm a recluse but I wanna date and this boy is so cuuuute" ldsjfldsdlfds

The longer you've been in webcomics, the pickier you get about other comics, and eventually you start noticing all the copy paste everywhere, even in premium/sponsored series and start belittling them.

Now I can't help but think many comics aren't as good as they used to be. The art is lazy, yadda yadda...

You need to start looking around for better, less-conventional stuff!

I, personally, don't like the common use of google sketch up and other 3d models used as stock for backgrounds in comics, that are left just as is without an attempt to make them work with the visual style of the characters or just with the jaggedy render quality. I know this is done to save time, but at least the premium series could do better that half-assing it like that thinking the readers won't pay attention. This may not be such an unpopular opinion as I think, but the more webtoons I read - the more commonplace it seems and the more aggravating it is.

Definitely take this with a grain of salt cause I have a humble following.

Worrying about buffers, drawing faster, and productivity hacks when you really want to improve the quality of your work is one of the biggest causes of burnout.

I think if you want to grow your audience its best to take time and improve the quality or creativity, or learn about marketing as its own discipline. Gaining followers by trading quality for faster turnover seems like it leads to always wanting a bigger audience instead of being proud of your brand.

My most unpopular opinion would have to be:

I don't think that comics should create stories solely to please today's society on how comics should be drawn or written. A story should come from deep within the writer and drawn in the vision of the creator. Adding certain type of characters and changing them to satisfy people who get insulted and outraged about everything is a waste of time. It hurts the creative process. I accept any religion, race, sexual orientation, etc.... But, I will tell the story I want to tell and the way I want to tell it.

I've angered people with that statement. I just think that in today's society, people are far too opinionated about everything and far too emotional about really unimportant things. Leave creators alone and let them create whatever they want to do. You can't please everybody!

I THINK WEBTOONS IS A PRETTY TERRIBLE AND USER UNFRIENDLY WEBSITE THAT I HAVE NO IDEA WHY IT'S SO POPULAR COMPARED TO TAPASTIC.

Ok with that, plus it's often terribly counterproductive to cater to people getting offended by everything. It's simply creating another type of discrimination, that is sometimes just slightly different from whatever offended to begin with.
I met so much discrimination and prejudice within communities that were precisely trying to fight against just that. Dialogue is what I'm looking for, not censorship and empty (and destructive!) political correctness.

So, unpopular opinion: i'm not making this as a hobby. My hobbies are playing games or reading books. I'm breaking my back doing comics because i want to make this as a career/make money from it.

Oh boy I so agree with this. Like I won't stop publishing my comic if I don't get money of it, but I'm not publishing without the main goal to make some decent money of it.
Basically because if I make money doing the comic, I can decline the comissions I get for making money and use the time in the comic

You're not a supportive reader if you don't comment. Likes and subscribers are just numbers, a comment can make a creator's day and sucks to see people reading and liking a episode you spent days working on without leaving a single word.

Drawing faster, using shortcuts and pre-generated resources is only useful when you are skilled enough. Otherwise it usually just makes low quality drawings worse.
