Being on the front page will not even guarantee that many people liking, leaving comment, and subscribing; moreover donating ink to your series. Banners and staff's pick features are not even last over a week normally, and Tapas traffic is not that big.

1000–500 dollars are a fortune, especially for some third world-er like me. I think not even many professional or premium creators here can gain that amount of money from their series alone in a month.

I think if it is like 10–50 dollars, people might try to buy it. However, that day is also when I lost my faith in Tapas. "Staff's pick" should never be "Paid for" ideally, that is like implying quality is depending on who gives you money.

I do not think such method will work well on Tapas overall.

100$ can be payed off if it's a huge banner on Webtoons, that's an amount I would be willing to pay to try it 500-1000 is definitely too much, 1 day on this banner won't make you this amount of subs or views.

And definitely not on Tapas, I have no idea how authors make money here if they are not donated ink?...

I do agree that amount of money is huge. I'm just curious to know what others think as well.
What if Tapas has a separate list of staff picks also on the front page that are those who are paying the ads?
Then the staff picks list which the editors picked themselves will still be there. The difference in title is staff picks ads and staff picks editors pick.
And if the amount to pay is lower, I wonder if other creators will pay for ads.

Yes for $100 I'm also agreeing to pay for a huge banner on webtoons.
I agree 500-1000 is too much.
I also don't know how authors on Tapas get paid besides fans donating ink.
Maybe someone with more knowledge about this can help us know.

I design and sell wedding stationery and used to do something similar on popular wedding magazine websites.

The cost ranged depending on the size of the banner and the length of time (or amount of clicks) the banner was active for. £80-£200 ($276).

I don’t think I’d spend the amount mentioned in the OP to promote a free webcomic though (unless you’re hoping to sell a tonne of merchandise etc.). Because you kinda want to recoup those ad costs somehow.

Yes, I agree as well. I made this voting poll to know what others might think.
But I'm willing to spend $100 to $200 on a huge banner feature on Webtoon and you're right, if we spend money on ads we need to get profit as well so maybe those who have a lot of merchandise maybe there's a chance they might pay this much for ads 500-1000 but for me, it's a no.

Definitely not, I can use that amount of money to buy a spot on local comic con and produce my merch to sell or pay some cosplayers to cosplay as my characters near my booth.

For that amount of money, you'd be best advertising it yourself on multiple platforms, and you'd likely have some money left over afterwards .

I've had a staff pick before. It significantly increased my subs, like almost doubled from from 275 to just over 500. So for a staff pick, I think around £100 or so would be a reasonable price (about $130 USD) for something like that, since the best I've seen a person get from an Instagram campaign of the same cost was about that much.
For a top banner ad though? Yes, $500 would be a completely reasonable price. I've seen comics with good banners up there, or even contained in collections on a banner rocket from next to no subs to thousands. It is simply the best possible exposure a work can get on the site.

Not that I think Tapas would or should take money from creators in return for staff picks or banner features because it'd quickly turn into a terrible vanity publishing crapshoot. I'm thankful they're probably too smart to put something like that into place. So yeah, I think a top banner feature is worth the lower end of the price bracket, but I don't think I, or anyone else, should be able to pay for features.

I wouldn't even pay $5 to be honest. I've had a staff pick too, and it really helped my webtoon grow a thousand subs or so, but is it worth $500? Hell no. With $500 I could buy a 400 pc nuggets from McDonald's and have $6.50 leftover if you were taking tax from the east coast of America.

I wouldn't invest more than say, a convention's table worth. So not more than about $300-500. But $100 could be doable, but as said, Tapas traffic isn't that "fast". I really question how many even use the "front page". It'd be like me using the front page of GAIA LOLZ

I burned a lot of money off advertising for my book The Gay Gatsby back in January, and sales didn't make a big profit at all, but even then I only spent about $200 and got hundreds of thousands of impressions across a few websites plus many sales. Tapas or Webtoons's front page would be a really good spot for advertising, but for a freecomic, it's almost pointless to spend up to a thousand bucks, unless I am already a with major studio or something. The front banner on the front page, though? Maybe that'd be worth it, once again if I had money to blow on advertising something that is already free.

That being said, one of my Tapas books is a staff pick right now, and I've gotten 65 subscribers in three days despite the book having finished in August. So even just a standard front page feature can be really helpful.

EDIT: I bet $500 can hire 500 people to come give your story a LIKE & you'd be just as well off.

Heck no. I still haven’t spent a dime on advertising anywhere let alone $500-$1000.

I feel like the problem with advertising is that, truthfully, its very hard for an individual to judge whether or not they’re even actually ready for prime time.

For example, on my main IG account where I have 70k+ followers sometimes I’ll share fanart. I don’t pick and choose what I share and just share everything if I see it regardless of quality. But here’s where I can see the quality of work really matters when sharing to a bigger audience. The folks who might be a little farther along in their journey and have more polished and professional looking work will usually gain at least a hundred or so followers (sometimes several hundred I’ve seen) from me sharing their fanart of my comics. Whereas the folks who are younger and/or maybe not so polished in their work will gain maybe one or two IF ANY AT ALL. Those are the folks I would imagine couldn’t benefit from that type of advertising YET.

It stresses me out to imagine people who aren’t ready for it to be spending money on that stuff!!
