Watercolour Artist looking for Writer

Dear Reader,

Updates:

  • 2023.03.28: Added Gallery below

PM me if you have any questions or want to start a conversation. DO NOT POST UNRELATED TOPICS HERE

If you have any issues with diversity, equality, equity, feminism, LGBTQ+ or intersectionality then leave. This request is not for you.

Introduction:

My name is AfroAtelier, I am an amateur watercolour artist looking to create a diverse webcomic. I'm extremely passionate about the idea of collaborating and creating my first graphic comic with others. If I like the pitch for your idea we will create a plan for our collaboration going forward. I do work a full-time job so progress will be slow at times but we will most likely aim to create a pilot chapter of your story and see how we feel about continuing the story. Along with creating a diverse webcomic, a personal goal is to create webcomics that have a few animated panels here-and-there however that is a long way off and will most likely not be achieved anytime soon.

Genre:

I have a soft spot for eldritch horror (without the racism), LGBTQ+, feminist and intersectional stories. However, I am open-minded when it comes to the genre and I can empathise that you might have ideas that would never have crossed my mind and that is absolutely fine.

Art Style:

I draw in a Disney-esk, lilo & stitch style of art and my backgrounds are similar to the Japanese style of shin-hanga art pieces. It is important to note that up until this point I have only been completing art studies from my favourite artists but now I want to use this opportunity to help a writer create their stories that they feel are needed in Black, Asian, Minorityand marginalised communities and also start creating my own original art pieces to build my portfolio.
I will create the art with ink and watercolours in the style shown in the examples below.

What now?

Post you pitch here, PM me or send me a message on Discord to AfroAtelier#8437. I work a full-time job, so be patient if I do not reply straight away during however I will let you know whether or not I will collaborate with you and why. I will not leave you in the dark.

If you are protective of your story plot, that is ABSOLUTELY FINE, but I do need:

  • A basic idea of the story which means nothing vague but I do not need anything overly detailed. I do not need a full story because we will most likely only create a short story or a pilot chapter and then review how we feel about the collaboration.

  • Character Ideas

  • Setting idea

  • If the story takes place in a sci-fi/fantasy world, are there other-worldly creatures and flora.

Things to note:

  • We will be working together but we both need to be open to criticism. But remember, If I choose your story, I chose it because it resonated with me and I feel that it has potential, so dont take criticism badly because it is most likely coming from a constructive and respectful place.

  • This is an UNPAID collaboration and I will keep the comic free to read but in the unlikely event that we make any profit, we can make a contract and split the revenue, between ourselves and a charity of our choosing. As well as talk about other important issues such as royalties and copyright.

  • This is a collaboration so dont forget to tell me a bit about yourself, what you want to achieve and also express what you expect from me know what you expect from me.

I hope this is clear and if you have any questions just post below and I will get back to you ASAP

Questions asked by others:

Q: "wait so you need a writer to write a story with a genre you already decided?"
A: The genre can be anything that you like however I will show a particular interest to stories that have:
* LGBTQ+
* Intersectionality
* Feminism

This means you can submit the story you like so long as it has aspects of the points mentioned above. These a complex themes and I dont expect them to be touched on in detail for a pilot or short story. If the writer in question can incorporate these points into their story, even for just one of the points or lays a foundation for these topics to be addressed in the future then I will be impressed and more likely to ask for more information regarding their story.

Q: " I’m not a person of colour myself, can I still submit a story?
A: No, you do not need to be a person of colour to submit a story and I encourage all writers to create stories outside of their comfort zone so long as they do thorough research and are respectful of the community they are writing about. I will of course be more critical to make sure no negative stereotypes are reinforced.

Q: How long are you expecting the story to be?
A: Keep it short, this will be my first webcomic so it's important not to get overwhelmed and have an achievable goal.

Q: I have several stories can you can pick one you like?
A: No, pitch me the one you like the most. If that doesn't work out you can pitch me the next idea.

Examples of short stories are:

Preta https://tapas.io/series/preta7

Magical Boy https://m.tapas.io/series/magicalboy/info7

Priya Lost Girls https://m.tapas.io/series/Priya-lost-girls/info3

So about 12 to 50 episodes for one season.

I was thinking that the layout would be similar to the webcomic:

Kind regards,

AfroAtelier

Hallo! What length of story are you looking for? I have an LGBTQ+ fantasy story that I reckon is quite intriguing and well put together. :))

Hi. Just thought I should mention your art examples did not load. You might want to re edit that in your original post. Good luck finding a partner and have a great day.

Hello, I have a finished novel called Wallflower Blooming with subjects of LGBTQ+ in it. I apologize because it is 37 chapters but I can definitely try to shorten it. The main characters are a woman and man but the woman is bi and in the story reflects on her past relationships including the woman she first loved and the man is asexual and besides the story's plot he is also learning to understand that him being asexual is nothing he should blame himself for when it comes to his last partner and her choices. It does take place in 2004 and I kinda wanted to show that yes, people in the LGBTQ+ existed even back then. It is nothing new.

Plot: Wallflower Blooming revolves around two people, Niko Kumai and Shunpei Matsumura. Niko's husband disappears, and shortly after she is suspected of being the cause. Before she is convicted, she goes on the run to find evidence to clear her name. Shunpei is being accused of bank fraud but has no idea how. Knowing what they may have left behind and the possibility of returning back they question if they want to go down the path of new love or return to the road they always knew.

Keep it short, this will be my first webcomic so it's important not to get overwhelmed and have an achievable goal.

I'm down, here's my horror story:

Description: Rumey buys a monkey's paw from a mysterious shop. He learns of the consequences that come from getting your wishes granted but decides to find ways around that. He decides to sell the wishes so someone else can deal with the consequences. Will he succeed? Will he fail brutally? Only one way to find out.

Hi there!
I have the beginning chapter (12 pages) of a short story themed around the tale of "Little Red Riding Hood"- a sweet-talking, pleasant, and lonely mermaid never had any friends due to his truly monstrous family, but never let it bother him, until a beast more sinister starts to hunt him down.

The main character, Little Red, is trans and disabled! (Deaf, which explains why the story is mostly silent, and a Wheelchair user). Side characters include a cute cat prince, a beastly Rapunzel, and a skeleton-like huntsman- Including a few creepy monster designs.

The setting is in a fanasty mix between the Bronx and Bangladesh, with chapter one taking place inside a palace!

Hope thats good!
