I obviously don't condone putting down other people's comics, but I should probably drop my perspective on why people are constantly complaining. Even if we are just a few voices out of 27k+ comics, I'm sure if WT actually had a forum, this would be one of the top issues.
Unlike Tapas, the Webtoon platform feels entirely competitive. There are rankings, ratings, Top 5 spots, etc. It's one thing to let popularity be decided purely by algorithms and stats, but a whole other mess when the staff themselves start giving special treatment to certain comics. No one has a problem with their Featured comics, because duh, we all understand they have an agreement. But now that Discover comics are getting Fresh Picks and chances on the main banner, there's a sense of "Why can't that be me?" "What am I doing wrong?" etc.
I think it's good that they're trying to give more exposure to Discover comics, but the infrequent updates and bizarre changes leaves a lot to be desired.
And for a lot of people, that's discouraging. Competition and limited spotlight are inevitable, but I feel like there are changes that can be implemented by the staff to give people a more even playing ground. No one wants to work in an environment where their peers are favored, or there aren't equal opportunities. Even if WT doesn't owe Discover creators anything, remember that us creators are promoting their site for them, so they're already benefiting from our comics regardless of if we get paid or not. So the least they can do is give us a platform we can feel good about posting on, and thus support as a business.
