This one's for comic artists and novelists alike, what are you most proud of in your writing/art and how do you improve/how did you improve that aspect of your art?

Personally, although I think I write really good, vibrant descriptions, I'm most proud of my fight scenes. In order to improve my fight scenes, I've got a whole playlist of fight scenes from anime and other shows (but mostly anime cause they have good fight scenes) that I like to study.

I pay particular attention ti interesting and unique fighting styles, such as the barehanded style of Inosuke from Demon Slayer.

I'm really proud of how I write my characters interacting with each other. I try to improve by studying dialogue from other books, comics, movies, and television to get a better understanding of how to portray it. I also think back to exchanges I have with other people and exchanges I've seen in different settings (like professional vs. casual settings).

I'm really proud of my ability to write natural-sounding dialogue.

I practice this by literally acting out most pieces of dialogue in order to figure out the natural flow of a conversation. It's a lot of fun, it affords me the opportunity to be silly, and most importantly, it's helpful to hear dialogue spoken aloud.

I just have to make sure I'm alone when I do it.

Me big fan of setting up challenges. Practice am only really practice if challenging. Otherwise it just routine activity. It like how normal level of physical activity not count as exercise for purpose of improving fitness. Like, housewives walk a lot but they not see any gains from it.

There am endless of variety of possible challenges. Want to write from POV of blind character? Sure! Want to imitate style of famous author? Sure! Want to create literary brown note to rival short story of Chuck Palahniuk? Endless possibilities.

I'm pretty proud of my character development. I practice by playing out conversations between them in the shower lol

Nah, sometimes they have conversations when I'm actually supposed to be working

When me deleted my Reddit account me almost cried. Partial wordcount was enough for trilogy of fantasy novels.

I'm currently trying to finish up writing another comic I plan on releasing after I'm done writing all the the three acts/seasons for it. I'm particularity proud with the amount of effort I've put in this fictional world, the magic/power system and the unique cast of characters. Looking back I didn't imagine I would ever create something so big like that, but I can't wait to finally finish it and see how I'll adapt it into a webcomic format.

For drawing itself, back in the day I used to be afraid of using colors in my art, because I was afraid that it would ruin the lineart. Now that I've overcome that fear, I'm now able to enrich my art with pretty colors.:art:

Well... I really enjoy polishing lineart, so my pieces often look smooth enough. I don't consciously practice it, it goes this way by itself, as weirdly addictive routine. I can spend dozens minutes, redrawing and polishing lines and notice that the time has passed only afterwards.
To be honest, I often think that I'd better get rid of this habit and concentrate on other aspects more.

P.S. Also I'm good in drawing by mouse, because I did it for a year, until a friend bought me good art tablet.

I'm probably up there with @tired_programmer, in that I am also pretty proud of my lineart! I'm a big fan of nice, clear, crisp lines. That, and facial expressions. I really love the expressiveness of cartoons, so I've spent a lot of time trying to make sure my character's faces can make as many expressions as I need them to.

I suppose I am proud of my ability to draw moving military scenes. I simply practice by drawing nothing more. My DS even complimented me which is a first.

In the end it is lineart and hands  Just drawing a lot of these made everything so much better. I believe Persona 5 fanart in 2016 and trying to simulate Shigenori's style helped me a lot.
2016 vs 2019 and I hope I became better since this fairy picture too, lol.

I would really want to be proud of my backgrounds... but I can not. They are not even close to anything I would want them to be, even though they became much better

I'm proud of my character designs and use of color. I had to use a lot of references and self references to be able to create my characters, but I think color came to me naturally; on top of that, taking an art class did help me improve greatly in both areas

Hmm, if I had to pick one, I'd probably say I'm really proud of how far my backgrounds have come, especially just over the last year and a half since I started my comic. Backgrounds are never something that I particularly disliked drawing... but I was also always just so bad at them hahaha. I think the biggest thing that I've practiced and that has contributed to make them better is spending more time studying what I'm drawing to draw and how to detail/render it properly. What was always the most "off" about my backgrounds before is that I would just draw from imagination without doing much or any research, and so everything would look really simple, undetailed, and just generally unappealing.

It's amazing how far a little texture and detail goes. For example, I have these two panels that show the same scene, one from the beginning of the comic (page 11) and the other from the end (page 64.) The first one's not too bad, I defintiely pushed myself to spend a little more time developing the buildings for this first city scene that I had done in previous projects of mine:

Buuuut I kept pushing to improve them more and more as I went along, and by the end of the comic I was adding some texture to the street and decoration (the green strips that go along the side, those got added around page 15 I think lol) and it looks much better already:

I also like to show off this first panel of a side project I did last summer... my main goal for this comic was just to go all out on the backgrounds and hope that I improved a decent amount in doing so, so these were a lot of fun to draw xD

I am proud of my characters acting. I love drawing interactions and moods between people. I am also educated as an animator, and loves to do handdrawn animation, so that helps a lot.
I am working in a team so toghter we are Snackbag Studioes. My partner is very good at writing, so I let her do that. It is something I want to be better at, but it is hard.
I want to get better at drawing charming backgrounds. I am can do it, it does just not look very charming with the textures.

Best Heidi

I'm proud in drawing characters and background buildings well and I read so many japanese comics and study them on how to use the texture, art panel, and shadings as this will help me in my comic making.
