What are your biggest fears as a comic creator?

My biggest fear is that my comic isn't actually good, but I'm deluded just like the people who come on Shark Tank with a product or company that the Sharks completely lambast and don't fund, and then these people walk out of the Tank like "welp, full speed ahead!" The fear of not making something worthwhile or desirable.... After many years of having comics and stories come across as too confusing and laughably esoteric to people, I've worked hard to be a better communicator, but that old fear of "your ideas aren't good and you just believe they are, and people hate to put you down because they know you're sensitive" strikes up a lot.

Just looked up Shark Tank, we have a similar show in the UK called Dragon's Den. And seriously, speaking as unbiasedly as possible, I love HoT! I want a shirt with Trickster on it.

The arthritis wins.

Because my arthritis is caused by auto immune disorders the likely hood of me losing the ability o draw is very real, I've already lost the ability to walk for very long and even do many things for myself.

Right now it already causes me a lot of trouble when trying to draw, and the pain and spasms continuously get worse. One day it will get so bad I will no longer be able to draw, this is a fact that I have long ago accepted, but I'm still afraid of eventually happening.

My biggest fears is no one liking my comic. As much as I tell myself that I make my comic for me and I make it because I love it, I would be lying if I said that a part of me wouldn't care if others didn't like my comic. I think most of us as comic creators or artists in general have similar fears. I just think what's important is that we don't give into the "fear" and become flat out "AFRAID" of expressing ourselves and showing our work. I believe that fear to an extent is natural, but we must push through them.

FANDOMS. I really hate the term "fandom" and "fan" because it literally means "Fanatic" I just want sane, fun, reasonable people to talk with, not people vying for my attention or getting angry for not doing things they way they want it. I've been tumblr famous before, I HATED IT. I could never tell who was genuinely interested in my work or who was just trying to get star points in their little fangroup. It's really grossto be treated as a status of fandom society instead of a creator.

I've worked for a band and under them became very well known in their pretty big fandom... It was the worst spiralling into unkempt, immature, none-reality I have ever seen and I just want to say I don't call my readers fans, I call them readers. Because that's what they are uhuuu

If I had the choice of becoming popular with "fans" or going unread, I'd go unread.

I know it says biggest fear, but I feel like I have to list a couple since I can't really decide on one.

1. I fear that since I have trouble with the business side, particularly marketing one self, that even if I create something people like...it won't ever be seen. Success in art is a mixture of talent, luck, and marketing, and not having one of these could easily lead to a project going absolutely no where. I am working on the areas I can control, but the idea still sits in the back of my mind.

2. A more obvious fear is financial failure. The idea that I won't be able to create simply because I can't afford to anymore. Even with supplemental income and roommates surviving in this world isn't easy. I know I shouldn't complain since I do have a roof, I eat regularly, and have a steady job, but like most fears it is hard to shake free from. To fail so completely that I couldn't draw.

I am aware that these both have to do with money, but honestly it is the one thing I truly worry about. And to be clear I don't intend to be famous or rich as an artist. I just want to be able to keep doing my art, and as much as I wish it wasn't a variable...having enough money to live day to day factors into whether I can continue as an artist.

Strangely enough I think these fears are the ones most parents have when their kids say they want to be artist. I know they are the ones my father has for me, and as I get older they are the ones that have stuck with me.

But as long as I have access to pencil and paper I'll keep drawing and I'll keep pushing forward. Make it or not. Allons-y

I suppose it would be building up a readership and letting them down somehow. We all know how difficult it can be to get the vision in your head to match what you put up on the screen.

I think my fear would be that my story turns into a horrible mess and no one will like it. If you're trying hard to write a story, there's a chance you won't see how bad it is. D : But that sounds extreme... I know my stories will rarely be as good as I want them to be, but I just hope they will never be terrible.

I'd also be afraid of not being able to draw comics again, for any reason. There are times in your life when there's just no time for comics, but I just hope this will never happen in the long-term, like if I get a very demanding job and have no time for comics anymore, for years. I also want to tell a lot of stories. It'd suck if something stopped me from writing the stories in my head. D:

I can relate to the idea of a story becoming a mess. Specially a weekly/bi-weekly comic strip that people usually expect to continue for quite a while. Something that may help (not sure) is that the best things I've seen, in any story based format, have a clear and set ending. You know some what how to plan the story cause you know where you want it to end up. Without this I feel like you end up like The Simpsons, Family Guy, or a multitude of animes in which the story or jokes become stale and end up boring your readers. So even if you plan to do a comic for years it needs a finish. Best example I can think of is how Bill Watterson ended Calvin and Hobbes.

My biggest fear is having my story turn out horrible like Twilight.... ;m; even though it's not about romance or vampires. I just fear that I'll fuck up and that my work will never be good enough no matter how much work I put into it. I plan to publish it someday in paper but I don't want it to be a waste of trees.

I worry that it won't get enough attention to "get it"
I worry that my translation of what is in my head won't make enough sense to others and that it won't get seen enough to matter.
I worry that someone will not like my art, or take one quick look and just say "meh"
if I could just get what's in my head onto the paper in a nice, interesting way that someone would invest enough time to get my story...

The thing that i fear most as a script writer is to write something that no one wants to read it or even give a feedback about. Also that the manga wont get enough attention.

I'm waiting to see if our biggest fear comes true right now. We worked hard for over 5 years and really worked towards a certain goal for 2 years. That goal is up to the plate right now and I am worried we won't be able to hit it. But if we don't, we will just try something else, but the thought makes my stomach sink.

My biggest fear is to lose my right hand, so I wouldn't be able to draw again. ='(

So true... That's my fear too - that some day I won't have time for comics. It takes a lot of time and if i have a support, I won't have the time to spare to draw. As for the mess... well, it is a mess if one doesn't have the whole story previously outlined. I do that too - I sketch the story in my head, I write the most important stuff, but the story seems to change sometimes when I draw it, since the characters have a mind of their own and I deffinitely like their improvisations since I allow them to do it!

I worry about people not liking my comic any more. like I write something that people just don't like or it gets boring to them.
With my comic I feel like I'm walking out into a forest alone and not sure if I will be fine or something bad is going to happen.

I also fear the what if of like. I got into a car accident and broke my arm(s) then I couldn't do my comic or art any more. what would I do with the rest of my life from there if this is all I'm good at?

My biggest fear is misunderstanding. I'm a very quiet person and it is hard for me to communicate, so I rarely respond to comments and messages (that don't explicitly ask a question) though I always read them happily. I worry that people may see it as if I don't care.
