What are your biggest fears as a comic creator?

I'm waiting to see if our biggest fear comes true right now. We worked hard for over 5 years and really worked towards a certain goal for 2 years. That goal is up to the plate right now and I am worried we won't be able to hit it. But if we don't, we will just try something else, but the thought makes my stomach sink.

My biggest fear is to lose my right hand, so I wouldn't be able to draw again. ='(

So true... That's my fear too - that some day I won't have time for comics. It takes a lot of time and if i have a support, I won't have the time to spare to draw. As for the mess... well, it is a mess if one doesn't have the whole story previously outlined. I do that too - I sketch the story in my head, I write the most important stuff, but the story seems to change sometimes when I draw it, since the characters have a mind of their own and I deffinitely like their improvisations since I allow them to do it!

Right, the right hand and my eyesight! What if I couldn't see anymore! o_0 Currently I have a bad eye sight and I am doing my best to improve it, but sometimes instead of improving it, I keep drawing and it gets worse instead...

As much as this is supposed to be about being afraid, reading everyone's replies and realizing that we all share similar fears somehow puts mine at ease...lol

I worry about people not liking my comic any more. like I write something that people just don't like or it gets boring to them.
With my comic I feel like I'm walking out into a forest alone and not sure if I will be fine or something bad is going to happen.

I also fear the what if of like. I got into a car accident and broke my arm(s) then I couldn't do my comic or art any more. what would I do with the rest of my life from there if this is all I'm good at?

My biggest fear is misunderstanding. I'm a very quiet person and it is hard for me to communicate, so I rarely respond to comments and messages (that don't explicitly ask a question) though I always read them happily. I worry that people may see it as if I don't care.

The worst of my fears is that if I am not useful to a lot of people, if my comic is not well liked,, I may start to loose desire to draw it. I don't want to draw just for my joy only! And at the same time I can't imagine not drawing... I feel as if a sparkle will be lost from my life if I have to stop. A sparkle that keeps me alive.

Mine may be building up a readership but lasting for so long (say I continue to make comics for the next 20 years' and my I hope to) that people become bored of me and think they've already seen enough of me and my work. And that no matter how much I try I won't be able to compete with the newest and greatest stories out there. And in that matter, loose that readership.

That and becoming great friends with people in the comic community and then one day loosing them either because of life or they just lost interest in comics. I guess internet friends tend to be fleeting but it's still saddening to think of it so.

How many people plan to stick around for the next 10+ years? ;w; I'll be your friend!

Oh, I've had that problem too!
I am afraid that if I write a replay, it will be misunderstood and sometimes I spend a lot of time choosing my words... The funny thing is that sometimes fears just come true. I had a few misunderstandings and had to explain myself

The best of comments I had were when I didn't care much, I just had to say how I felt about a favourite comic I was reading, and after that I received likes of my own comments from different people for months! I guess it was because I were true to my self and have stopped worrying. But I can relate to your fear. When I write something, I feel like blushing as if I am talking to a group of people and everyone will estimate me.

That my work is totally neglected. Which it is not luckily.
But it was on Deviantart, I remember that after two weeks only 2 people had even looked at it, and I know a artist should not make his/her work for others, but a little recognition is nice.
I think I fear all my work is in vain. That it doesn't have a purpose.. That was too depressing.. sorry. Here is a smiley.

Yeah fandoms can be a bit of a turn off. I like anime but I never really get along with most anime "fans." And I know how you feel with popularity a bit I almost have a thousand subscribers on youtube and I'm already getting annoying people and a few creeps lusting over my characters EWWW...

I have a fear that I'll lose my job and not be able to afford to work on my comic anymore... I have free time now, but thankfully I'm able to balance everything with a great job. It's kind of scary to think about what could happen if that's lost.

My fear would be to never get one of my comics done. I keep on getting more and more ideas-- they just never stop to let me finish one. Iv never had a writer's block, but too many ideas have become walls. I have simmered some down to what I'd like to say would be decent stories. It is sometimes not enough for me to continue work on a single series long enough to start drawing panels before I find an idea worth archiving for latter.

Many anime fans have turned me off of many anime. Most of the time just talking and talking about it in tell I can't even bring myself to watch some. I was the game master of my anime club in high school (an unofficial official leader and representative of the club) so depending on attending members I would become completely annoyed, because I had to scratch off something from my "to watch" list that I have not even seen yet. I personally like to find comics/ manga and anime without someone ruining it. Sometimes its just bits and peaces that pile up till I become completely disinterested. Fandums have the power to completely destroy an audience.

The fear of "im wasting my time doing this. Who even reads or WOULD read my crap? Am i being something im not? I fear that i TRY, not DO. I fear i will sit here and lurk forums until im 'good enough' but never see my thoughts come to fruition. That i'll never DO, i will 'perfect' myself and stlyes until im 6 feet under thus Giving up before i start because I'll know I will fail."

After reading some other posts Iv realized another fear. If (personally when) I get a comic out would it fit my own standards or would the overly judgmental part of me over my own work take over and deem it unworthy of existence? I don't know and I don't have an answer for it. Its irrational, but I feel this is worse then perhaps not finishing one.

I fear a lot when it comes to comics.

The one I keep coming back to most, though, is my characters. I fear that my character development isn't done right. That people won't make a connection to them.

Because that's my biggest thing when it comes to watching or reading stories. If I don't feel a connection to the characters, I don't care about the story.
