What are your favourite video games from before the 2000's?

I've always been a big fan of older games. I probably prefer them over newer ones, actually. I'm a Nintendo buff, so my top 3 would probably be (not in order) Super Metroid, Earthbound and Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
Honourable mentions go to the Sega Genesis Sonic games.

I had a SNES as a kid, and one of the games I was best at, and still absolutely adore to this day, was a mostly forgotten-about game called Tetris Attack! Nine-year-old Kay was an absolute monster at this game.

That one, and I absolutely adored Pokemon Silver. That one is my all-time favourite childhood game.

Well, since I actually was a kid in the 90s, I have a bunch of fond memories of games from that period. Some of the ones I remember the most or that have aged well are:

One of my first memories playing a video game was playing co-op Kirby’s Dream Land 3 and Crystal Shards on Virtual Console with my cousin. Good times. I’d love to get an authentic cart one day (when I can afford to spend $80 on one game…)

I finally played through Earthbound last year too! I had a lot of fun with that one.

The curse of Monkey Island, Disney's Aladdin, Disney's Hercules, Caesar III and Age of Empires were my all time favorites, I used to spend hours playing them! <3 (and even made sure to buy them all on Steam as soon as they became available again :D). A notable mention also goes to Tekken 3: never had a PlayStation so I couldn't play it at home, but I played it quite a bunch of times at a friend's place and I loved it

i was a little baby baby back then so I don't remember many but i know for a fact that i lived on Humongous Entertainment and then the handful of easy educational games my 'rents got so in no particular order (and i'm getting the names from the cds we still have and my fuzzy memory but-)

Man, I was pretty young at the time. I looked up several games that i have fond memories of from childhood, but a lot came out in the year 2000, not before a few notable examples from the 90's though:

• Pokemon Silver. Grew up a Pokemon kid in the heat of the initial fad, played through Generation 1 in like kindergarten, and then these games came out and were like 1st and 2nd grade. So much fun!
• Donkey Kong Country & Sonic Spinball. When I used to visit my grandparents, often we'd rent a SNES from the video store and my grandma and I would play these two games together

and that's kinda it... I had other gameboy color games but none stand out immediately as being favorites, necessarily (I suppose Pokemon Blue counts, but I prefer silver). I didn't play my folks' NES very much, we never had a SNES, and by the time I got a N64 stuff like Zelda Majora's Mask was already coming out which were in the 2000's. I missed the original Ocarina of Time release lol.

That's really hard to say. I think that video games in the 90's where really cool. Sonic the Hedgehog, Tomb Raider, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot Ect.

I see it's been a while since you've posted, but I just want to ask—has anyone here gone back to replay their old favorites lately? I fired up Chrono Trigger again recently, and it still hits just right. Also curious if anyone's found modern games that give off that same retro vibe, especially in gameplay or visuals. Would love to hear new picks that still feel like the classics!
