I'm not sure what category to put this in...unfortunately, 'Meta' no longer exists. But anyway:

Since we're all concerned about the forum going bye-bye, I thought this would be a nice topic to start. In case it does go, we'll have a sort of legacy thread to reminisce in. And if it doesn't...well, it won't hurt to talk about how grateful we are that it's staying. ^^

Unfortunately, I have to go to work right now...I don't even have time to talk about what I liked the most. I guess I'll just think about it throughout the day, and when I come back tonight, I hope to see a lot of nice replies, from users old and new.

A lot of stuff, honestly

  • Being able to join a forum post while being easily able to catch up on the topic even after a long time
  • The freedom of creating new topics without them getting drowned by other things
  • We can bookmark texts/threads that we like and view them later
  • Not be socially awkward and make new friends (seriously)
  • to be able to promote our novels/comics

And pretty much more stuff, yeah
#DontReplaceTapasForumsPls

All that. It feels slow paced, compared to Discord.
I can enter a topic and I KNOW I am reading things about that topic.
Discord is like... an infinite IRC chat with no guide. I don't understand at all about what is been talked about. The simplicity of the forums is the best for me.

I quite enjoyed the dumpster fire threads that caused huge arguments to be honest. They were fun to read. Namely Artists vs Writers. That was a battle for the ages.
Of course I love my music posting thread. And the sketch a day thread. And the few RP threads I've been a part of were real fun, and helped me to find my voice as a writer.

The community aspect. Just.. that's it. I don't really feel like a part of a community in any other platform. I'm just a musician in a crowd of a bunch of writers and artists. Arguably, I don't belong here!

But you guys are like-minded people with creative interests. These interests that I wanna dabble in and eventually share with you all, whether you think it's good or not. And there's a lot of you that have expressed an in interest in what I'm making or what plan to make. Enough that a few here have asked if I do commissions! Do you know flattering and validating that is?? Man, I- :sob: :revolving_hearts:

This is something that I can't easily get out friends and family, and I feel like we all know a little bit of that feeling. We can provide instructional material, discuss the ins-and-outs of our creative processes, and push each other to improve ourselves or we can even just be idiots together and meme on the most random stuff. The fact that we can do this alongside and in support of our creative endeavors is truly special to me.

If the forums get nuked and we gotta move to Discord, well.. idk it's certainly not gonna be an easy transition, that much is easy to see lol

Edit: We're morons, nothing's happening to the forums

The BL jealousy drama/
The "Why is BL so popular?" threads always ending up in war/
The "Why BL/Romance are so popular?"
The coordinated rebellion against major platforms/
The AI freaks preaching the end of the world as we know/
The memes/

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat is going on?

Well, I might add more later but as a person that has quite a hard time reaching out to people or joining conversations (discord :frowning:), this has been a great place to meet some really wonderful people and feel "not alone" while working on art and comics. It's kind of like having an office to go to while holed up in a corner at home - there's people I look forward to seeing every day and work that inspires me to learn and do better, helpful and generous people sharing resources and advice, a bit of drama and gossip, random weird shit and whatever. If it goes away I will miss it very very much.

The forum button is no longer under the discover tab on the main site. It got replaced with a link to the discord.

Crud - I skimmed that topic title and assumed it meant something else.

Well if that doesn't sound like they're going to disappear it I don't know what does. Ughhhhh hopefully we've got a little while before that happens :cry_02:.

Hopefully They respond to the topic or on discord. I don't want this place to go :cry_01:. I can admit it's been a little slow these past few weeks, but I still think it's worth keeping around.

  • Large body of threads in Tapas from 2014 to now. I love a lot of the old ones.

  • What i call the "pillars" (the supportive 'big' brothers and sisters from the forum), they seems to be that few ones who are always be in the threads making great comments. New people replaces in time but the 'pillars' are always there.

  • The friendliness of this forum. The first time when i discovered on 2017, The interface (not much changed) and the threads left a great impression to me. I thought it was the best creator forum ever-- It slowly becomes one of my most visit site ever since. :relieved:

The community and how nice everyone is.

There's just something about it where I feel like those who are rude and inconsiderate understand they won't last long here, and they tend to leave without much drama. On every single other forum I have ever come across, including the recent ones I've joined, it's not like that. There's some really obnoxious people who are also frequent posters, making it difficult to even want to come back to their forums. People have actual discussions here, and they're also wonderful at staying on topic. Tapas Forums is unlike anything I've come across

Well, the forum helped me gain more traction for my comic, helped me establish relationships with other creators, share my passions. There's sooo many good things about this forum that I like. I also love the fact that it is very welcoming and it feels like a big family. I always saw this as a pretty wholesome place for me to talk with other people who like the same things as me!

Plus, I was able to improve my skills thanks to the feedback I got from other creators, I was able to spot the weaknesses in my story and characters thanks to them. I'd be very very sad and depressed if this forum were to shutdown... :disappointed:

List of things i love about the forums

  • Create a topic of anything
  • Interact with other authors
  • Help advertise for other authors
  • share other writing prompts and art prompts

idk if it's true or not that that the forums will eventually shut down but I'm still happy to be a part of the forums and meet so many authors on this site.

It's less pressure? As someone with social anxiety it's definitely less overwhelming than the discord. Discord makes me feel like an insect...

The forums really helped get my foot into the door on this site. I'll admit I was a bit hesitant on going on it at first because I came fresh from Deviantart and I was hoping my watchers would follow me on here. This was just a place to put all of my finished work. But since getting on forums, I've felt like I've grown closer to the community. There are so many great people with great work on this sight that I would have never found if I didn't get on forums. It's also help my series get the recognition it has and it's just sad to see it go like this. But hopefully if enough of us speak out against the change, we may get a compromise.

It's a very different format compared to discord, and has it's place alongside other communication platforms I think. Discord is much more fast paced, and catching up can feel like a daunting task sometimes if you're offline for a few hours. In the forums I can catch up on specific threads quite easily, without having to dig through pages and pages of people chatting. Want to find the finished OC dog pile image? Easy. Want to see what people say about it? It's all right there. Conversations like that just don't work the same in Discord.
I also feel like it's a lot easier to get your thoughts out on a forum, because I don't have to worry about 20 other users chatting over the top of me and burying the topic I'm responding to. I know Discord has threads and replies, but lets be honest, people use Discord differently than a forum like this. If I respond to someone's post from yesterday that's 200 posts up in the chat log, I'm not going to get to have that conversation with them like I could here, I'd just be ignored.
Promotion is something I've heard people complain about a lot here, but tbh it's netted me lots of readers. It just doesn't work the same way on Discord.
