------- Breaks as in breaks from work or breaks from passion projects <3
- Oh, and when do you take them?
--

Maybe it's a show your watching, maybe you take walks or maybe "breaks" isn't in your vocabulary.
Nevertheless we all use them in different ways : >

Me personally I am trying to break away from entertainment and sort of let my own content suffice.
It's really hard but if I can cool off and not see my work as work then I believe my power level would skyrocket!

For me, its a variety of things. I play Pokemon Go, which takes me outside to see sunlight and get some exercise. I might do some reading or bake something. Anything I can do to relax basically. Since I have a full-time retail job I also do try to write on my days off but sometimes you just need to take a step back and relax. I recommend doing things that make you feel good. Check out a new book to read or check out a movie at the library, treat yourself to something tasty, take a bubble bath. Emotional and mental health is very important to everyone and sometimes that involves doing something fun and frivolous. At least for me, that's what I do.

I found walking breaks to be most beneficial for my day job (programming). I think it's not about coming up with an answer but allowing the peices to work out in my mind. Not adding more information allows things to reveal itself.

On the other hand with art, I found my most effective breaks come from reading (non art related), journaling, or evening driving meditations which is more involved but helps me clarify my thoughts.

Entertainment like videogames and shows really haven't worked well for me. They're too similar to what Im trying to break from.

I randomly find a series to watch or I hang out with friends and play Warhammer 40k

Murder plants out in the yard. A few minutes to clip overgrown vines or weed the gravel walkway is helpful. Sometimes I just change my room if it's a short break. I'll also antagonize - I mean play - with my cat or dog. The dog's really easy to play with, just fetch a toy out and she's allll ready to go for the next hour.

Breaks? What are those?

I take a break between chapters and I'm going to use the time to relax a bit. Especially since work has been hectic, I need a bit of down time.

Then it's back to sketching.

Many people would not call this a rest but, right after working I proceed to do my comics for more less than 2 hours and then go to the gym for an hour or more all at night.

No laying on bed, or taking a nap immediately after coming home from work.

Sometimes I play strategy games just to waste time or get myself satisfied again to continue my comic "Mukhtar".

Although health is an issue but as long as I exercise and consume healthy goods, everything will turn out OK.

i draw both for work and fun so most times its gets pretty redundant during "breaks" otherwise its some game, reading, catching up on/finding a series, or light stretches (or naps)

I go for morning exercises, watch a little bit of YouTube (Vanossgaming), go to libraries. Mostly chill things I guess.

i use the pomodoro technique; 5 minute break every half hour. usually in these breaks i... uh... go on here

if i have break DAYS its usually when i do stuff like cleaning and shorter projects

The only longer breaks I take are one week of vacation every year where I try to not do anything work-related other than gathering inspiration for new projects
I've gotten back to taking smaller breaks right now though because my schedule was starting to become a little insane. I normally just watch a few videos on YouTube (no time for a whole series right now so it's mostly comedy sketches or anything that doesn't require me to use my brain) or some light reading at the side (like some chapters of a novel here and there).

Oh I thought you meant breaks as in a hiatus on posting your comic XD The answer for THAT is try to post guest/fan art. More along the theme of what you're saying tho, I read a good book, or play an old old video game for nostalgia's sake (helllo SNES!).

That is very true, variety is the spice of life after all ~

@LCT-COMICS Oh yeah, if you're working full-time with programming you need to script_execute(info_flush);
when you get the chance ~
I'd also like videogames to be relaxing for me but I'm into Touhou and Fighting games so that just doesn't work out xD

@amcodamonkey YO! Warhammer 40k is so cool! A bit expensive on my end, especially with all the rulebooks that keep updating @~@

@Cavechan It's literally impossible to not take any breaks whatsoever. Come now.
Although I guess it comes down to semantics at this point ~

@faisalhussein394 You sound like a MACHINE! Keep going if it makes you feel good but just promise to listen to your body ok?

@VibrantFox Sounds like you've hit the milestone I've set ;D

@punkarsenic Yeah! That's my strategy too <3 Didn't know it had a name.

You know I made another thread some time ago asking people about their schedules. Some were VERY tidy and some were extremely loose. Keep polishing it and it'll be just right for you ; )

@dan Old school, I like it ~
Actually, that would be a good topic as well. To avoid hiatus I try to pace myself to where I draw more than I upload. That way a "buffer" builds up that I can use in case something happens or I'd like a break/want extra time to some project <3

Actually, I answered in that post

The problem with my schedule was actually just that two projects turned out to go on longer than I had anticipated like a 5k words project suddenly turned into a 60k project and a 25k project suddenly turned into what seems to become a 100k project. But I guess it'll get back on track as soon as I've finished these two  And as long as I don't happen to pick up something else along the way ... :no_mouth:

What can I say, I'm old :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Which you can probably guess by my handle. I was here back in the early days, when it was still Tapastic XD

If only I'd published more frequently here back then, my comic might be more popular now XD

@TheNiceZombie Warhammer 40k IS expensive. I definitely went and chose an army first (based on the coolness factor) before reading the rules because not only is it pricey, it's time consuming and if I'm gonna buy, assemble, and PAINT this damn army, it better be one I love the look of.

i take a forced break every 2 hours for 20min where i stretch, do the dishes, do something else--- and it's the hardest thing in my life. But so important especially if you sit all day.
