What do you look for in comedy?

The video clip above comes from Teen Witch, and it's a joy and a delight in my opinion. It has a consistent tone throughout and some great performances, as well as humor that works and a story that doesn't overstay its welcome or take itself too seriously. It also has Zelda Rubinstein, who is always wonderful to see. I recommend checking it out if you enjoy light, fun films.

I'm a salty adult so my kind of comedy is mostly dark humor and sarcasm :'D
Other then that I love puns too, especially from the science field or food related.
Slightly less, but still a fav of mine are innuendos/suggestive stuff told by that one perv in a group of friends, making them mostly confused or uncomfortable.

In the visual field, I love the dynamic face expressions that accompany a comedic moment, they're priceless XD

I get what you're saying about Teen Witch. I unironically love this scene, and replay it weekly when I feel like I need a cheer up. Cringy/not_so_serious -stuff is my thing and this is perfect in that game. Anyway 'I'll never be hip' is my catchphrase now.

but seriously I like a lot of stuff that requires knowledge of a person and context of the situation. Character interaction with snappy dialogue and good pacing is always a great way to do this. Or just unique stories with the narrator trying to do their best. I definitely veer more towards the gallows humor type stuff, but naturally funny people/characters can make anything funny with or with out going into controversial territory.

A big thing I like is the misanthropic main character trope. It's a bit cliche but there are so many ways to present/subvert it I think it's fun to deal with. There the easiest sort of character to torture and you can get a lot of satisfaction in having them fail/succeed.

I like long inside jokes. Something that compounds over the series and get bigger. But the later chapters don't explain it to the viewer who may jump into the middle. I like the absurdity of them. Ideally this will just be one level of the jokes, but I think it is something nice to add.

I was raised on a steady diet of British television, Nicktoons, and early-90s Comedy Central, so my standards are pretty high.

No puns, no stereotypes, no excessive pop culture references, and shock humor only when it's satirical.

Have you ever seen the tv show Psych? It’s about a irresponsible guy who’s very observant and pretends to be a psychic to solve crimes with the help of his longtime a best friend—a responsible pharmaceutical salesman. It’s full of witty humor, juvenile jokes, 80s references, and the sort of codependent friendship that makes life worth living. It’s amazing. A comedy at its finest.

Honestly, anything can be funny with proper build-up. Personally, I like a well constructed joke with a set-up and pay-off over characters just saying random "quirky" things.

I tend to laugh at things that are just absurd or make you ask "What?? Why would you do that??" For example, Lord Birthday's comics. Sometimes also dark humor. Personally, I like to use incorrect measurement units (ex: "large walk," "ream of bread", be overly vague or use vast understatements.
