What got you into making webcomics?

I want to know the Tapastic community a little more. So why not start by asking what got you into making webcomics in the first place!
For me, I started thinking of an idea for a manga I wanted to turn into a webcomic a couple of months ago, however I was miles away from actually making it a reality, so that'll come later. But about a month ago, I started reading my old 2-year-old sketchbook, which was filled with random, crappy stick-comics I made. And that just got me thinking, "I should make this into a webcomic!"
A month later they're still crappy but I still enjoy making them

First there was an animu, then I had a crush on animu character, then I made a fanfiction and then I started to make my own stories. That's pretty much 10 years of my life in one long sentence xD

Did anyone else survive the great wolf comic revolution of DeviantArt back in the mid-2000s? You know, when every single kid that drew dogs of any sort had SOME sort of wolf comic? Because I did and totally started webcomics because of it. My very first webcomic was a dog comic because that's what all the cool kids on DeviantArt were doing, but I eventually kind of ended it to enter an OCT, also popular on DeviantArt at the time. Not gonna lie, that was SUPER fun and I wish they'd become popular again. While the dog comic thing got me started, I think the OCT is what got me into making webcomics. However, as much as I was loving that OCT, I eventually backed out to start the original version of the comic I'm still working on today. Aaand the rest is history. : D

I actually want to make story-based rhythm games but don't have the income needed to hire programmers and musicians, so I was looking for other ways to tell my characters' story. After trying visual novels and light novels, both of which weren't exactly what I was looking for, I eventually decided on a webcomic--comics just have a certain balance between art and writing that seems to work best for me, and they're easy to work on as a 'one-man team.'

Well... I´ve been drawing since I was a little kid (Now i´m 23) so yeah, comics are something I really like to draw since the beginning Now Im drawing a idea I´ve been thinking for a long time!

I started out wanting to write novels. I always had very vivid pictures in my head of how scenes or characters should look as I was writing though, so at first I just thought I'd try to write a book with illustrations every once in a while. Back then, I'd thought the term "comic" was only in regard to superheroes, so I wasn't too interested in creating something like that since my stories were in the fantasy genre.

It wasn't until I'd been given some graphic novels and manga for Christmas one year that I discovered that a comic could be from any genre and about anything – and I realize I could combine my writing and the images in my head to tell a story that way. Now that's all I want to do!

Burning Bright is my first attempt at a full length, color webcomic, and I'm loving it so far.

I had a lot of characters floating around in my head and realized I couldn't just go on without giving some of them a story or a world to live in of some sort. I like drawing, and the fact that I could immediately share it online and possibly get feedback was enough for me to want to start a comic.

I come from a family of book lovers, and I was encouraged to read from a young age. The more I read, the more I started to come up with my own ideas, until I started to try writing for myself. I've also been drawing since childhood, but I'd never really put the two together beyond occasionally drawing characters from my stories. As a teen, I I started reading manga as it first became widely available in UK book shops, and I got into reading webcomics as well, and I was inspired to try it myself. It took some time before I started to take it seriously, but now I can't really stop.

Well, when I kinda flunked out of my college courses, I ended up with an epiphany that I wasn't feeling passionate about school anymore. The first year was great, because I was learning new stuff and making cool things, but in the second year, there was so much pressure to succeed and to make an impression in the industry and the expectations were astronomical... I just ended up drowning.

That's when I figured out that I wanted to make something that was exclusively mine, and that others could hopefully enjoy? I thought a webcomic would be the best direction to achieve that.

I pretty much got in to webcomics during high school. I used to create these random character drawing sheets during lunch time when there was nothing better to do, so after realizing how many character sheets I created, I got an idea. I wanted to place them all in a story! So I created my first comic. It was a pretty cheesy comic thinking back, but it's where I got my true start.

I've made up stories in my head for as long as I can remember, and late in high school I decided I wanted to do something with that. I started out just writing things out, but got into art and drawing in college because I wanted to visually bring things to life. That just naturally led to wanting to make comics for me, and doing webcomics seems like the most accessible way to get your stuff in front of eyes or at least just put it somewhere.

Also this comic by Evan Dahm had a major impact on me and helped spark my interest.

I don't do webcomics to be honest... I mean, yeah, it's a comic and it's on the web. But I do it in printing format so I don't know.
Anyway, it all started when I bought my first how to draw manga book when I was 12, I learnt the basics of manga, I did some really crap stories and manga comics and stuff. That was just a hobby, and not even that sometimes.
It was not until I read a manga series called Bakuman that I decided to follow the barely possible dream of becoming a manga author in Japan and started to get serious about doing this. It has been a bit more than 2 years since then and here I am.

I've been making shitty comics since I was in 5th grade. Out of most of the comics I've ever made either have been destroyed by shit like liquids or getting stepped on. At this point I make them as a hobby.

I loved reading comics and manga so the next course of action was to make my own lmao. Also I'm not exactly great at writing prose and I am slightly less shitty at drawing... it took a long time to make a webcomic/manga but hey, I got here lmao. I went with the online route since I don't know how to publish it here (Malaysia) lol and I just liked the online feel of it... getting to interact with readers directly is good ohohohoh.

After discovering manga was a thing, I thought I could try to make something myself.
I first uploaded my comics on dA, but then I found inkblazers, which I thought would have been a great place to post my stuff (though, we all know what happened there, the tragedy.)
Most of the inkblazers people seeked refuge here, and I'm happy with this place.
