Yes. It'd be like constantly working your socks off for an employer, expecting a bonus/promotion because of it, but never getting one (as it was never promised in the first place). That will just make you ill, depressed and disappointed.
As I see it, it's better to work/draw for yourself (for fun) and the bonus is your actual comic, the skills you gain, the people you meet along the way and just being happy for a bit.
I'm in a Facebook group for traditional comic creators and some of the members are in their 60's and have been making comics their entire life, some full time, some part time, some famous, some not (yet all incredible artists).
The projects they have worked on (wow!), their experience and advice and support is just amazing - but what I do see in all of them is passion, experience (from doing, learning and failing) and perseverance.
If you are feeling wobbly - honestly message me here, or instagram or Discord (new to this) or wherever - I'll listen. I'll send you positive or silly memes to cheer you up. I'll praise you. I'll even tell you off if you like. Just don't be the me from seven years ago. Wish I could go back and kick that idiot up the arse.
I think you know you can do it. You just have doubts. So don't make me post that damn cat illustration again. I'll do it!
