What is the deal w/ Teen Titans GO?!

Oh woah, OKAY! So, I have been having this issue not really getting why so many people dislike and rant about the cartoon Teen Titans Go! In my opinion, I think that it's really colorful, the art is great and at times is funny. It's really enjoyable to watch. I've always been a Teen Titans fan, since the older cartoon, and I see this new/comical version really cool. So, I don't know like what do you think? Is it really that bad or do you feel it's actually a cool cartoon?

I think most people, including myself, don't like it because all the characters are shells of their former selves. The original show had good writing, good character development, and had humor AND depth. All of that was stripped for this version, the team is now a joke. People saw how good Teen Titans could be, so Go! is an extreme let down.

I definitely get what you're saying, that these characters don't have the same depth as the first ones. But at the same time, this show is meant to be a spin-off of the older show in a comical way. For that they don't really need that much depth. And I personally like them both the same, but in different ways.

I miss the old show i guess. It was hard for me to get into the spin off when I wanted the original. That being said. the show does have funny moments, but I think it's hard for me to accept the change so I just chose to walk away... That and Robin is insanely creepy now >_>

It's basically made just for the dumb jokes and an insult to the main characters of the original show. It doesn't help that it's the same voice actors either because hearing them actually spew out these lines is just awful. If you were to show a person this show and the the original Teen Titans they probably think you're joshing them or something since it made a such joke of the original show. It's also lame how they all seem to be stereotypes of their original counterparts which annoys me even more. The jokes just aren't funny at all to me. They're just very...forced. And that's a lot coming from me since I find everything funny. It reminds me why I don't watch TV as much anymore...

I really love the art direction, I think Dan Hipp's work is amazing so it's super exciting to see a show with his art style and influence. I also think it's pretty funny. I like it.

I'm a HUGE Teen Titans fan. I collected the comics as a kid, have a ton of action figures, cosplayed as Raven, the whole sha-bang... and I have absolutely no issue with the characterizations hahah. The characters weren't MADE for the animated series. They have been around longer than most of us on this forum have been alive and they've been used to different degrees of seriousness and humor over that course of time.

Honestly, Batman has been everything from dark and broody to campy and fun, I don't understand why the Titans can't have the same range without people hating it? This is not going to be the last Titans media ever, I'm sure they'll be revamped as serious and emotional within the next five years.

I like Teen Titans Go its funny. I'm pretty sure the show isn't meant to be anything like teen titans. They even joke about how much the new show sucks compared to the old one. Plus I also think Teen Titans GO is aimed at a younger audience. It is made for a new audiences, not the people who grew up watching the original show.

Personally, I don't find the jokes funny at all. I've been waiting for a sixth season to continue the storyline for years, but instead we get lame jokes and crappy animation. Many of the show's fans, myself included feel well...kinda betrayed in a way.

They changed their target audience. Teen Titans was very popular with teen girls who enjoyed the relationship and depth of the characters. They were very dedicated to the show. Teen Titans Go! however, is aimed at young boys. The studio did the horrible mistake of making a spin-off show on a series with a pre-existing fan-base that had very different expectations. The many girls who were expecting to see characters with depth and relationships instead got goofy random slapstick humor on characters they cared about. If they made a show that had goofy slapstick random humor not based on the same Teen Titans characters, that would've been fine.

Yes, I love the art style and sometimes the humor is fun (plus I love the little DC Easter Eggs), but it just hurts too much that it's the same characters.

You can read Paul Dini commenting on this issue here. He's talking about Young Justice, but it was the same reason Teen Titans was cancelled, and can easily be applied to this situation.

People don't like Teen Titans GO! because it isn't Teen Titans.

Like, the characters of The Amazing World of Gumball are one-dimensional and nobody complains about them because the cartoon is funny, and that's what it's meant to be -- if it's not your style of a humour then you shrug and ignore it. But people have a hard time looking at Teen Titans GO! that way -- they see it as a downgrade of the original characters rather than a different show.

I don't watch it regularly but I think Teen Titans GO! is often funny and there are episodes I like and laugh at and there are episodes I just sigh and am embarrassed. I'm not mad. But then, I lost interest in Teen Titans well before it went off the air.

I think that's probably the other thing. It's like seeing your favourite video game character get a Mii outfit in Super Smash Brothers and realising that this means you'll never see your fav character in Smash. You might complain about how stupid the Mii outfit looks, and maybe it does, but it's no worse than other Mii outfits -- what you're really mad about is that the Mii outfit's very existence means you can't get the character you wanted.

I think these are all good reasons to say "I don't like the show," but maybe unfair reasons to say "the show is bad." I don't think it's poorly done; it's just doing something very different from what the Teen Titans audience wanted.

I'm not terribly attached to the TT characters, although I thought the original show was good. But as a fan of comedy, I find the humor to be pretty lazy and hacky, relying a lot on shouting, juvenile behavior and "omg random" developments.
I'm not really sure what they were going for with that kind of humor, I guess it reminds me a bit of the classic Dexter's Lab episodes, but those were a lot more genuine.

I guess it's not really made for me, but it leaves me a bit disappointed as other CN shows usually do a good job of keeping older viewers engaged.

I feel the same! I love love love the art direction actually and while some jokes are lame, sometimes it's actually really funny. I too grew up with the first titans and was a complete fan but I also like teen titans go. Most reasons I hear is cause it's a disgrace to the old show but I don't/can't associate the new titans to the old show at all, it's too different. It's supposed to be childish and funny it's not like I'll expect some deep story line with that kind of visual.

In fact back then I actually wished the first titans would stop being serious all the time and do some light topics, like robin's crush on starfire or more of raven's alter egos OR more jokes from beast boy and cyborg. Now I get all of that from teen titans go and tbh I love seeing that.

There's a lot worst ways to ruin a cartoon, like making spongebob episodes until it's ruined OR breaking apart lilo and stitch (what happened to mother fucking ohana). At least teen titans brought back the original crew (unlike coughpowerpuffgirlsahem). Yes, it may have changed the image of the titans but teen titans go cannot/doesn't make the old teen titans show any less awesome than it was.

I watched some of the original Teen Titans and I know the series ended on a cliffhanger. Then they brought them back in a modern Flash cartoon manner and that was the first insult.

When I watched Teen Titans Go! I haven't found it particularly funny myself, but then again I don't watch much of today's cartoons. Also, I don't like how saturated the color scheme is.

but yeah i think its actually really funny. i mean i liked the first version waaaay better not gunna lie. but i still like Go! the main thing i have a problem with is how bad of people the titans actually are. like theyre terrible people. way worse than the villains. especially robin. ohhh my god robin. but i think theyre gettin better at that and its really fun to watch. plus they do some really cool things with the art style and i like all the typography that they got going on

I liked the original Teen Titans and I think Teen Titans GO is a lot of fun, I don't understand the backlash...the show isn't aimed at the original audience since the original audience has aged. The show has a ton of DC Comics easter eggs that even older viewers can get a kick out of (and some seriously questionable jokes that will fly over kids' heads), when I saw Darkseid and Deathstroke's daughter appear on there I lost it

The whole thing about execs wanting to shut out girls viewers since girls allegedly don't buy the toys stuff is coming to an end sooner than later. Once I saw outcry over the lack of Black Widow merchandise for the Avengers movies and then the crap storm that happened over Rey not having merchandise for the Star Wars toys (which was so ridiculous...she's the frickin main character!!!), I was glad because that means things are changing. So maybe shows that draw in female viewers and male viewers equally will be given longer lifespans on these idiot networks. Plus, a lot of these execs are old and out of touch with today's world where women are into the same things as men are especially when it comes to geek stuff....I mean how else do you explain not making action figures of two awesome characters like Rey & Black Widow??

I do prefer the original Teen Titans but at the same time, I did like some of the Teen Titans GO episodes as well. I can definitely understand why some may not like the new Teen Titans cartoon, I personally like what i've seen of it.

That's the reason people are upset with the new direction Teen Titans Go! is making. It perpetuates the very issue that got the old show cancelled (along with Young Justice and the other shows Paul Dini mentioned). It changed its target audience to please young boys as opposed to the original show that was enjoyed by teen girls.
Things are changing (in a surprisingly fast pace) but we're not there just yet. As you mentioned with the toys line for Black Widow and Rey (also with the Guardians of the Galaxy girls as well) companies still think this way despite the popularity of stuff like Frozen. The issue has thankfully reached awareness, but not fixed. Wonder Woman is getting a barbie doll based on Gal Gadot, which is a step in the right direction.

To be honest I just can't get can't get past growing up with the original teen titans series on cartoon network. Maybe I'm really jaded to the point where I can't enjoy something simple and fun.

I think most of my complaints would stem from having complex characters dumbed down to stupid cliches.

If you like the show that is fine but here are my thoughts.

1. I do not think it is funny at all. It's humor is so bottom of the barrel that I get flashbacks to mad tv.

2. It takes well established characters and turns them into parodies of themselves. Which would be funny if they did that for one episode instead of an entire series.

3. Finally I enjoyed the character design in the first so much, I could not enjoy "Go" at all.

I have no problem with shutting my brain off and enjoying something dumb, but this goes a little too far for me. I think the whole thing reeks of laziness and I just don't enjoy it. That being said I know a lot do, and more power to them.

I can think of a few reasons why TTG is popular snark bait

1. The Titans are shells of their former selves.

2. They are arguably worse than the villains they constantly put away.

3. Most of the jokes fall flat.

4. CN promotes the hell out of it at the expense of shows that people actually like such as Steven Universe, Gumball, Adventure Time, etc. Several months back, they played EVERY episode of TTG back to back during the summer for a few days in preparation of a new episode without prior warning. And this isn't the first time CN has pulled this crap. Oh no, they have done it a couple of times since. Think you're getting re runs of Steven Universe or Amazing World of Gumball? You may want to think again. Its that random.

Anyway, its not hard to see why TTG has gotten on many viewers shit lists the past few months. To anyone who actually likes CN's newest pet, that's fine. Your are entitled to your opinion even if the majority of us CN watchers heavily disagree with you. I am personally just not a fan.
