I wanted to ask: What is your story's main character fighting against? I started out with 3 but then a cool website11 told me there were seven types, so feel free to check it out!

My story3 is predominately Man vs Self

  • Man vs Self
  • Man vs Fate/Gods
  • Man vs Nature
  • Man vs Society
  • Man vs Unknown/Extraterrestrial
  • Man vs Tech/Machine

  • Two MC against each other;
  • Also to some degree both MC vs. Fate, vs. Nature and vs. Society.

Jeez, they have too many things to fight against.

No category for Man vs Man? (not enough room I guess?) My comic is about 2 brothers fighting. This is definitely interesting though!

I just noticed that! I put it in, but I think they cap it at six :disappointed_relieved:

I put Man vs Society, but I could also have put Man vs Self.
My story is a coming of age story in the Bildungsroman tradition, so both types of conflict are linked.

TreasureHUNT!!'s first season is equal-ish parts Man vs. Self and Man vs. Man.

The main character's personal arc is a Man vs. Self one, but the conflict of the story and what catalyzes that arc is a Man vs. Man conflict

I try not to have any of my characters be the "main" character but since it's still early on I suppose the most development has been for Zonkowski. He's in his mid-20s, he's stuck in this job he really doesn't like and he's placing the blame for how shitty his job is on the customers. You know, the whole reason his job exists in the first place. :unamused: He's kinda got the mentality of one of the characters in "Clerks" who said "this job would be great if it weren't for the f*cking customers." But he did let slip in an episode that he dropped out of college and thinks he can't go back so he's stuck in this crappy job, when really his whole situation is ultimately his own fault and due to stubbornness or fear or anxiety he's got this fatalistic attitude about it and won't do anything to change it. So I guess it's a Man vs Self sort of thing. For now. It might change later.

Seeing your profile pic my first thought was that you were sad about your story being vs Unknown

same haha
Self, Fate/Gods, Nature, Society

Maybe i stack too much against them

My story is about a young girl getting tangled in something much bigger than her, so I'll say Man vs Unknown!

My comic is about a MC against his country being divided and develops to form a unity. However my comic so far is still stuck on world building pages.

I would say Man VS Man for mine, because my main character's conflict comes from his goddaughter and the incompetence of his mooks.

While not directly, my main character is struggling to find her footing in this new world she is trapped in.
So Man vs Society (or at the very least, coexisting with it)

NTN's a healthy mix of several sorts, but I can't really clarify which cause of spoilers :stuck_out_tongue:

I don't even think of those when making it.

I think it's a mix of man vs man, man vs self (sometimes literally), man vs fate (in the later parts), man vs society (a little), and man vs unknown (do ghosts count?)

I think mine mostly comes across as Man vs Society/Government (because it does have some of this at the end of the day) but in reality it's Man Vs. Self (overcoming drug abuse).

It's both man v self and man v man since the lead is struggling to learn how to control themselves while antagonists see them as a threat because of that fact.

Well, it's actually women dealing with a sexist and racist society while at war against even worse regimes - Nazis and such.

Man vs Unknown/Extraterrestrial. Oddly enough, both of those things. heh

What ARENT they fighting against tbh

these hands rated E for everyone

Probably Man vs Man, Man vs Self and Man vs Society all at once with Splitting Image1. There's the mysterious character using Mortimer's old plans that's a direct threat, there's the society in the kingdom that wants to get rid of problems rather than solving them at the root and accepting their targets are people, and there's all the characters confronting aspects about themselves they either had to hide or struggle with over the years.

My main character figtht against a world wide scale that wants to kill aliens and use their blood for supposedly end the energy crisis. Her half sister is also a half breed between alien and human, so she wants to protect her too...

Well thats the thing, the story is still in script but i plan on publish the comic soon.. on january

Mine would be mostly Man vs Self and Man vs Man, with a bit of Man vs Unknown/Extraterrestrial mixed in as well actually.

Obscurity? Or Worthlessness I suppose?

There is a main antagonist but that won't show up for some time.

The main Mc's are mostly fighting against Society,Unknown. If anything Fate is more on their side.

my MCs fight against an extraterrestrial being ,society and themselves

I would have to say that for my novel the goal is to have both protagonist fight against themselves, and society. There might also be a bit of fighting against fate thrown in too.

8 days later

My main character is the Empress Dowager. :joy: So she's fighting against her own desires, and fighting enemies from outside and within her empire to mold society in the way she deems fit. XD

Man vs Unknow  (Extraterrestrial didn't really match)
It's a Grim Reaper againts bad ghosts and the cause of it. so fate/gods also don't fit

Alien Fiction Man versus Fate/Gods
That is my main story, so that was my answer in the poll.
Alien Fiction: The Queen in Yellow Man vs Nature
Soulless Saint Man~ vs Man

~ footnote: "man" is very loosely defined here. The protag is a robot who is trying to kill an alien.

for now and the unknown because it depends on the circumstance because there will be different enemies

Ohhh I just finished the plot of my old series, it's MAN VS FATE/GOD. Because fate pretty much f*cked everthing up most of the time right? :joy:
