What is Your overall honest feelings about the Tapas Comunity

i spend more time here than twitter now I can say that much
the community is very nice overall and I've seen so much support here for my story even from people who it's really not their taste and probably wouldn't read it, it's really nice to hear people find my concepts good.
I also appreciate how honest people are when giving art critiques
there is an issue with dogpiling though I've noticed
I'd give it a 6.5?
would've rated it higher but I have some gripes with the way the website itself works which kinda messes up the whole experience

I'm still a bit new, but so far this forum seems mostly desperate creators spamming for subs.
There have been a few interesting conversations here and there... so maybe a 6?
As for the site. My comic is invisible. I have no idea how to promote it. On webtoon, I get around 10 new subs every update. On tapas. absolutely nothing. so 0 there. Just my experience so far.
so that averages out to a 3, or 4. Maybe I'm using tapas wrong.

I think this site is really frustrating in a lot of ways. I think a lot of people on the forums are really genuine, awesome folks who just want to talk about/promote/become friends with other creators based on mutual interests in art, but then there are people who just want to stir the pot and make trouble, and I literally feel like I'm walking on eggshells when dealing with them. I really don't want this place to become another hellscape like the hellscape that is twitter where I really just come here to talk about art, but people somehow keep dragging controversial topics into it.

I would also say that the whole Tapastry thing that was touted by Tapas as a more official kind of community thingy rather than just chilling on the forums is incredibly frustrating, too. They really only promote people who are already popular and they kinda ignore everyone else, LOL--as a way to bring the community together and share stories that are underappreciated, it was rather underwhelming. It's the same thing as the features, too. I see so many people get duplicate features, even though the Tapas staff told me that they try to avoid doing that on a different post. I do have to say that I still prefer it to a lot of other sites, though, because I am still incredibly grateful for the promotions Tapas gave me--it was very kind--but at the same time, I'm a little bit embittered just because I see so many people putting so much effort into their stories and they don't get the spotlight they deserve for it.

I'll try to be brief since I have some opinions that I personally would rather not get into here but having been a part of the tapas community for almost 7 years and the forums for about 5 my opinions of the site and community overall have changed drastically and honestly not for the better.

I won't say that Tapas doesn't have a good community. When I first came I met a lot of very cool folks and continue to encounter people who I've enjoyed interacting with but in the same vein I've met and interacted with some not so great folks and seen things that I found not great or even concerning and honestly outright upsetting. Tapas itself has also changed where even in the community/staff interactions we have now they feel less frequent and even a little disconnected despite their best attempts. There's something of a gap that's hard to explain.

Focusing on the community itself there's times where I feel it's not in my best interest to engage or interact for a variety or reasons and when it comes to topics whether directly related to content creation or not there's specific subjects that really show a side to the community that i honestly wish i'd never gotten to know in the first place.

Getting to the point I think if a topic like this came up earlier on in my time here i may have given it a solid 7 or 8 but now in all my time here it gets a 3 at best or maybe a 5 f i really wanted to push it. it's got a lot of good but there's certain bad aspects that affects it a little too much for me.

I wanted to give it a 7...but that wasn't a option. Most of the people in the forums are very friendly and helpful. Readers are generally nice as well. I just avoid anything negative.

One con is that there quite a lot of creators here though, so that makes it a little hard to get "close" with people. But at least that means lots of comics to read and forum topics to talk about.

I don't want to derail too much, but any of the big social media sites are better for branding than Tapas and Webtoon, which are solely website hosts and will not do much more to help you. Their search engines are bad, the Tapas tagging system barely works, the wall doesn't work on the phone...like...I could go on, but if you want to do any sort of branding, it has to be somewhere outside of this website.

I really, really love the community on the forums! That, I would give an 8. I only joined this year, and I've heard the forums have gone through a rollercoaster ride of great, to terrible, to great a number of times... I'm just going by my own experience. I love forums, this one is full of awesome people, and I visit it daily.

Tapas overall, though? Not so much. I was initially very positive about Tapas, despite knowing that my audience here would be smaller, due to how much more creator-friendly the site seemed. I preferred it to WEBTOON. Way more social, with a nicer layout. It's also the platform I used as a reader, before I started my own comic. I never used WEBTOON.

Then, a few months ago, I read about the IP issues pertaining to becoming a paid original here. That utterly torpedoed my enthusiasm. If Tapas ever folds, as TokyoPop did, it's going to take the passion projects of many paid creators with it. It's predatory, unnecessary, and it's permanently coloured my view of what matters to the decision makers of this site. We know it's a dangerous practice. Yet it's done anyway.

Add to that the fact that the uploader never seems to work properly, and is more finicky and time-consuming than the competition. I only post to Tapas because of the small but passionate collection of readers here, along with how much I love the forums.
