I hope this is not terribly off topic or breaking forum rules in some way. I just really, really love music and always find it interesting to hear about what other people enjoy. So, which types of music and specific artists really float your boat? In addition, I thought it would be nice for everyone to share a song they like at the end of the post. The next person to reply has to listen to the song and give their short impression, and then leave a song at the end of their post for the next person to comment on. Let's see if we can make a chain.
Now then, there's very little in the way of music that I would find unlistenable - I can pretty much agree with anything if I find something to like about it. What I prefer, however, is generally pop music, with an emphasis on anything even vaguely electronic. I'm just a sucker for the rigid, mechanized, often alien sounds of electronic music.
When it comes to artists, let me start with the ones that I have particular soft spots for, my upper echelon so to speak. The first artist I ever loved was Madonna, and her music formed my teenage years and young adulthood. With age, I only discovered more meaning in it and gained a deeper appreciation for it. Then, there's Kylie Minogue, who is just pure joy and always welcome in my headphones. I adore Björk and Kate Bush, both incredible women in their own right. Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode and Kraftwerk are my electronic gods.
Moving on, I'm a sucker for Nordic pop, particularly of the Swedish kind. Robyn, Alphabeat, Kleerup, iamamiwhoami, Annie, The Sound of Arrows, MØ, Loreen, Todd Terje, The Knife, Sally Shapiro, Vanbot, Postiljonen... It's a big list.
I'm also into a lot of British acts, including Bright Light Bright Light, Chvrches, FKA twigs, Goldfrapp, Hurts, Jessie Ware, Katy B, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Years & Years.
People that don't fall into any of those categories, but that I still love nonetheless: Carly Rae Jepsen, The Corrs, Enya, Madeon, Nelly Furtado, Mylene Farmer, Roisin Murphy, Tori Amos and Hikaru Utada.
Last, but not least, I love Eurovision.
And to leave you with something to listen to, here's one of my favourite songs by Madonna: "Waiting."
