I've been a bit all over the place job-wise these past few years.
A few years ago I worked at a video game studio doing art, but I had to leave due to the company falling apart. It was a big shame because I grew really close with the team there and learned a lot about digital painting on the job there.
Then I juggled two part time jobs: teaching game design at schools and graphic design work for a spa. The former was okay but got tiring after a while (especially the commutes). The latter didn't pay too much, but it did help open the door for me to get into the graphic design industry, so I'd say it was worth it in the end.
Eventually I had to get a full time job doing collections for Chase. It was not fun, but at least I had some really cool people (co-workers and managers) working with me.
Once I left Chase I was able to land a job as a Graphic Design assistant. Once the old head designer left, I took up his position as lead designer. I'm still there to this day and for the most part I enjoy working there.
I've been studying web development for the past few years so I can eventually break into that field. If graphic design treats me well enough, though, I may stick with that. I'm just trying to keep my options open.
I don't expect to make any money off my comics, but I do make my own comic print-ready in case I ever want to do a book version of it for some strange reason.
