What makes you stop reading a webcomic?

Me have dropped many series over the years. Sometimes because the story loses direction or the humor becomes cruel. Sometimes a hiatus goes on for too long, like longer than a year, and it feel like a waste to keep my hopes up.

What make you stop following a comic?

there were a couple of comics about grown ups and then suddenly you have an arc about their little sibling or a child with their childish problems.who kinda ruins the mood. I mean like really little kids like 6-8 years. a story about high school studentsis obviously ok. but this family drama is not my type
And I personally don't like dogs )) and no one like nazis

When the story got really ridiculous and unrealistic (except it is supposed to be a ridiculous and satire comic).

When there’s nothing much in characters development.

when the pacing is s*it.

When they killed a character just for the shock value and no progression in the story at all.

When cliches are over used (again, only exception if it is a parody of cliches)

When the ship is wrong. (I know it’s ridiculous but i do drop a lot of story when the ship is not what I wanted ;v; )

and some other minor problem that I can’t remember right now.

when it loses focus or goes about 2 years without moving along with the plot (if it's a story based story)
I mean seriously almost 3 chapters of 33 pages each doing absolutely nothing but going in circle is just bad writing IMO

When the story doesn't progress quickly enough and drags on forever without ever making some kind of point.

There's usually a point at which I open the comic one day and realise it's just been treading water for months without bringing me any joy or interest any more; I'm just reading out of habit.

Example: there was one comic I was reading where that moment was I tuned in to the weekly update and it was a character walking up to a door, almost knocking and deciding not to. Like yes, if that was a page in an issue of a comic, that'd be a nice bit of emotional tension, but when your week's update is a guy not opening a door, it's not pacing for the format and feels like I'm wasting my time.

• When I forget what the plot was about and stop understanding who are these people and what's going on. If I like comics really much and/or such occasion happens rarely with this particular comics, I can go backward and refresh my memory. Otherwise I may just drop it.
• When I don't like where the plot is going (including the cases, when it goes nowhere at all).
• When, for any reason, no likeable characters remained (for example, all ones, whom I liked, died; or all characters became cliche/not interesting/not likeable).
• When comics was deleted...

main guy/girl gets with guy who abused them and romance between them is supposed to be seen as "development" (when guy is still the same and abusive, no consequences)

When a romance story just keeps on adding side ships just for the sake on continuation.

When the MC is revealed to be a half-half of the opposing forces/species even if he's described to be nothing special at first so now he's gonna go save the day, try and defeat the evil half or get them together.

Typically if the first episode doesn't click with me or is already loaded with patterns/tropes I don't like, I don't add it to my reading list. If I'm unable to find a character I like for the first few episodes, it's a no for me

Pettiest reason I ever dropped a comic was the characters were having a conversation but their mouths were closed Really want to give it a chance but the faces were dead-looking either so I can't really feel much.

EDIT: I forgot there's been cases like this hgfd. When the story is already getting interesting and long but the author decides that they don't like how it started so they redo it again. The one I read had the beginning redone 3 times aa.

When the main plot of the story gets side-tracked in favor of fanservice. Listen, I like hot chicks and dudes as much as the next person. But if I started reading a horror thriller about the old mansion haunted by the obsessed painter who kills anyone that moves in, I don't wanna see several chapters catered to a beach episode. I wanna see if they defeat the painter specter.

I'll usually give a comic a couple episodes to get me invested, if the characterization is annoying to me, or if it gets overly repetitive, or if the direction it goes starts to leave a bad taste in my mouth I'll dip.

Too many updates that don’t drive the story forward in any way.

I barely dropped any comics I read, but the ones I decided to drop were 1. Going nowhere, with characters just drifting in the world for no reason (I'll let you find out which comic was that) for many damn years. 2. The author keeps adding the drama for secondary characters I don't care about, and it looks like it's done for the sake of prolonging the comic by any means possible.

I 2nd this. I come to the point where I am tired of seeing them. It is used way too much as a go too. Plus with the raise of neo-nazi mentality in my country, I am just sick of them.

For me the major one is readability. If I can not physically read your comic due to bad font, I have no reason to continue.

I also really hate strawmen. This is made worst when the MC that is arguing against them is an asshole. Some of it is a slippery slope into dehumanizing of groups of people. I feel like even for an antagonist, there should be some effort to give them some complexity.

I'm biased, but too much combat- or hard to track combat. I'm not really a fighting-action person, though. My eyes tend to gloss over when I try to read comics with unnecessarily graphic levels of human/human cruelty- I just can't do it

Recently, I'm not reading a lot of new comics, so this did not happen for a while. But from the time I read more:

(This is for stories I stopped reading after a good amount of chapters, and when already invested in the story. When looking for new stuff to read, I drop most stories after update 3 to 5, not necessarily because they are bad, but because that's not what I fell like reading).

• When the quality drops significantly and keep dropping. I don't mind if the creator decide to draw simplier, drop colours etc because they realised they cannot go on with the initial style, however, in this case, I expect as good, but simpler drawings. What I dislike is slow drop of quality, generally the writing quality drops too, making you wonder if the person still like their story.

• Stuff I did not sign for, and are senseless. Surprises can be great, but they have to make sense. I drop a romance story that started as a nice healthy relationship, with non-romance subplots, making me think it would be about realistic, mature relationship and the influence of other life circumstances on it. Then after a while, out if the blue, with zero explanation, it became an unhealthy, tropey, dubcon thing and non-'romance' (read 'crime') subplots were dropped. What? That was the worst case I read, but I read many things falling into this trap (it can't only be bad writting? Maybe getting influenced by other persons? I don't get it).
