I've been using Tapas as my main host for two years, but I'm now building my own site with WordPress!
The bad - Hosting isn't exactly cheap
But I'm building it on a subdomain of my main art site, so at least it's not costing me extra! Also, with WordPress you need to have either coding experience or lots of money to throw at premium plugins. Otherwise your site will look pretty rough.
The good - Complete and utter control over every single aspect of your site... provided you know how to code.
If you're not a control freak like me WordPress is probably overkill, but with some coding knowledge the freedom you get is pretty amazing
I used Smackjeeves for a few months but their file size restrictions were a pain. Also, their user base is relatively small, so I eventually decided it wasn't worth the effort maintaining a mirror there.
