My family was very low income so trips to the theaters as a child was very rare, we usually rented movies from the local knock off of Blockbusters when we could as we didn't have cable either most of the time, and internet growing up was a big no.
My parents let me watch whatever I wanted basically, so any horror movie...people getting eaten, gore, violence, murder, monsters, swearing but they always clasped their hands over my eyes at any sex scenes or lewd scenes. The one that scared the crap out of me at the time was The Grudge and to this day she still leaves me feeling unsettled.
So in the end there really wasn't a movie I wasn't supposed to watch except if it had sex and surprisingly I never watched anything without my parents permission or without them as I typically watched family friendly movies when over a friend's or another family member's house.
