There's a fair few to count, but straight off I think Black Sails was definitely a key touchstone for the "visuals" of my novel. That kind of gritty, forged-by-fire crew of a fighting ship is definitely an aesthetic I was going for
On the flip side of that is Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, a definite inspiration for a ship's crew that knows their business and still follows a fairly formal structure in the running of their ship.
In terms of writing, Steven Erikson's series Malazan Book of the Fallen couldn't help but be a big influence. I consider it one of the greatest fantasy series of our generation and the way he writes was something I learned a lot from, even if the material itself is somewhat different
