What music do you listen to when creating comics?

Personally, I love to listen to music correlating with the theme of my stories but more often than not I'll listen to something more relaxing. Usually it has beats that (physically) soothe the brain such as "Chillstep" music.

I also like to listen to songs that relate to what happening in my comics. It helps immerse me in my own world. However, I usually listen to any song that I have floating in my head or let it play on shuffle.

I listen to a lot of podcasts, I also watch series on my second screen when I'm cleaning or coloring cause I don't need to be fully focus on what I do. As for music, usually I pick a playlist on spotify that match my mood, but these days I'm listening a lot to Hamilton, and try to sing at the same time but it's very hard.

As "standar music background" I also listen chillstep.

I also like to listen to songs that relate to what happening in my comics. It helps immerse me in my own world.

I have a few playlists on youtube that I've made to listen to while I'm drawing. I like to listen to up-beat stuff, electronic music, instrumentals, or things that remind me of whatever it is that I'm drawing.

Seriously though pandora is my friend. If I'm writing I can't deal with vocals, so having a lot of instrumentals helps me focus. When I'm drawing it's whatever floats my boat! I'm in love with a lot of the work of Bitter:Sweet lately! They're a lot of fun! This one is my fave of theirs:

OH! And of course StudioKillers!! This is Eros & Apollo, but they made their name with Ode to the Bouncer.

When I'm writing and penciling I listen to something without lyrics, usually TV/ film/video score from stories that are within the same genera. For my series The Working Stiff I've been listening to the score of 28 Days Later and The Walking Dead.

When I'm Inking I like listening to something calmer so I can concentrate, then usually something faster when I'm coloring to motivate me to work as fast as the tempo.

Whatever lord shuffle-button tells me to listen to. Sure, not exactly the best-est of fit when you're designing a comedy webcomic when a technical death metal song comes up.

Tangerine Dream and Jean Michel Jarre always helps. At least for me who mainly work with science fiction.
My all time favourite band is AC/DC, but I usually listen to them in my off time. The same thing with Rainbow.
Emerson Lake and Palmer is also great for inspiration. I've also gotten a lot from Roxy Music over the last 2-3 years.
I also discovered retro wave music a while ago. There are a lot of it that I really enjoy, but also lots that I skip.

seem to the series most often to get thrown into the playlist.

There's a bunch of other stuff as well, but those seem to be the more prominent when I look at the playlist.

I listen to a lot of chillstep too! Also, depending on the mood of the comic usually has a lot to do with what I'm listening to. For the intense rage fight scenes, I listen to hardcore. Next thing I know my heart is beating like crazy and I want to punch my computer in the face.

Hence the CHILLSTEP. =)

Unless I'm listening to instrumental music, I get super distracted when drawing (and I still listen to the distracting music anyways XD), but my go to instrumental's are anything from the studio ghibli soundtrack or video game OSTs (my favorite of which would probably be the atelier rorona and ar tonelico ones)

My comic is in a futuristic setting, so I listen to a lot of Future Funk, Vaporwave, and VHS head. But Gorillaz is also gets me in the mood to work on it!

@kurapikasuki I just had to step in and give a shout to your mention of Billy Talent -- I LOVE THEM, rarely see anyone mention them (but maybe I'm just not aware).

As for me, I tend to listen to a mix of italo-disco, downtempo, electronic, and vgm! Recently, if I don't have winamp open with an italo-disco playlist, I'm on snesguide with their streaming music player set to mixed (top right corner). It plays a shuffled set of both NES and SNES music and it's extremely cool stuff!

Video game soundtracks are usually my choice when drawing and writing. Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Mass Effect, Dragon Age... for basically any mood or setting you need, there's a video game soundtrack that covers it. They tend to be beautiful and atmospheric enough to set a good mood without being distracting.
