What’s your personal policy on spoilers?

I can't do spoilers even if I really want to, i'll try to cryptically tease things but i can't just outright give something away

having a group of friends to chat about story things would be awesome but it'd be unlikely for me to spill with a reader/readers

This! I've uploaded a bunch of images on Instagram that are quite spoilery, but out of context they don't make much sense, or if they do it's a very small aspect of the plot.

As a reader, generally, I despise getting spoiled. A big part of the fun of experiencing a story is enjoying it for the first time so... I'd rather not be spoiled of anything, yeah x'D Also, when I get invested in a story, I like to try theorising about what's going to happen and all that.

Now that I'm drawing a comic I'd rather provide the same spoiler-free experience to my readers... But it's hard as frick x'D I'm used to sharing everything (there were very spoilery stuff in my tumblr and my yt channel because, well, I didn't think anyone would ever care about my comic so I just shared the art I did of it x'D), so now... I'm learning to keep stuff to myself. I may give some clues here and there about some hidden stuff to help readers find it, but no spoilers about what's going to happen.

I looove teasers especially because it means I can draw about the spoiler with zero context and interact with readers as they try to guess what it even means. Real spoilers are paywalled, and basically all my Patreon content, cuz I need SOMEWHERE to talk about things well past chapter 8.

I don't mind spoilers depending on the story, but my comic is a Persona 4/5 case where knowing the (non Akechi related) twist recontextualizes a lot of the comic and some of the magic of discovery is lost, so it really wouldn't work on this case.

I have an almost zero spoiler policy, may share some with family members, but avoid revealing too much.

What i do is to drop some early cameos of characters and foreshadowing of future plots/reveals, that opens the chance to really fun and interesting fan theories.

I personally don't really mind spoilers because they don't ruin the experience for me, but I know that they ruin it for other people, so I try to keep to myself and not post anything publicly that would be too much of a spoiler.

I definitely can't keep my mouth shut if someone is interested in spoilers, though, and I talk to my close friends about a lot of late-game things to help my work out some of my ideas (or just because I'm excited about things that won't come up in the comic for who knows how many years). ^^;

I don't give spoilers because I know some people don't like them.

But I don't personally dislike them. I'm a big re-reader, so by definition I like reading things that have been entirely spoiled.

One could argue that the first read experience is different from the following ones, and I think it's true, but for me, some spoilers do not ruin the 'first reading' experience.

Honestly, I feel more cheated when it's good on first read but has very poor re-readability, which can happen easily (although it's not always the case) when the focus is a lot on suspense.

So I'd say I like works that can afford spoilers and still be interesting to read.

I've never cared about minor spoilers, so I'm a bit loose-lipped...for example, if someone in the comment section were to say "that character's so annoying; god i hate them" I might say "They won't act that way forever ;] ".

I can see someone who hates spoilers getting annoyed with me for saying even that much, but in my book that's just an appetizer. Gives you something to speculate about for the future~

Outside of formal comic spaces, however, (i.e. my DeviantArt acct) I'm even more loose-lipped. There are spoilers everywhere; if I think a comic is a long way off (and to be honest, most of them are) I'll say pretty much anything about it.

It's hard to feel motivated to keep secrets when it seems that no one cares, after all...in all my 5-6 years on the site I've only gotten one "wait, isn't that a spoiler" comment...and that wasn't even really a spoiler. =/

I like using shock and awe as storytelling tools, so surprises and cliffhangers are a regular weapon in my arsenal. Spoilers ruin the momentum so never in the case of the storyline or character development.
But for small pieces of lore or worldbuilding I usually tell if someone asks. Those usually don't spoil much or anything of the story itself.

im pretty strict as a creator, but as a consumer ill look them up if the media is known for being graphic or intense. i like the handmaids tale but i had to research all the deaths/intense scenes before jumping into it or i wouldnt have gotten far.

I layed out the whole plot for my next mystery story to someone online. If they turn up in my comments section and spoil it for for my readers, I will turn up at their house to ducttape them to the ceiling.

I never give away what is going to happen. It defeats the purpose of reading and I work so hard on writing the story. I want people to read it and find out by seeing for themselves.

I'm pretty tight-lipped about story spoilers, though I also have a bad habit of throwing down progressively less subtle hints while waiting for my slow self to get to the actual twist.

Unrevealed characters are my biggest weakness. There are a lot of characters who haven't shown up in my comics yet, but I talk about them on social media and whatnot because it's too hard keeping them under wraps, haha.

I abhor spoilers. I have been spoiled so many times and it's always very frustrating. I've even had things spoiled because people can't wait TWO DAYS for a new chapter of manga and read the fking illegal scans and then post about them. -__-

I hate clicking on an image and the first thing I see is "SO-AND-SO IS DEAD LOL" e_e I don't understand the thrill these kids get from it.

For my comics, I don't, or at least try not to, give any spoilers about anything. It sucks though when there's something that happens way later in my comic, but I wanna talk about it NOW.

There have been some comments on my comic where some people have guessed right or wrong things. I usually don't reply or write something vague that doesn't allude to it being true or not. There have been times where I have explained things but that only happens when it doesn't affect the story in any way and isn't really brought up.

I don't TRY to keep my mouth shut, because I don't need to try.... These days I naturally have little to no desire to reveal spoilers most of the time. X'D But if the desire ever happens, I'll just remember a lot of people don't like spoilers, and not drop any critical ones.

My bro doesn't like watching/reading anything without having read spoilers, lol. His stance is "how do I know it's worth watching/reading if I don't know how it goes?" which I can't quite relate to, at least not to that level. There are definitely cases where spoiler knowledge doesn't diminish my enjoyment of the thing, though.

I give very minor spoilers out! They're usually things that don't affect the main plot. And I don't give them often.

But it's INCREDIBLY painful not to give out spoilers sometimes. There are so many topics here where I wanted to discuss my comic but I CAN'T because I'll be GIVING OUT MAJOR SPOILERS so I'm like GRRRRR. Fine.

It's the thrill of being the first to know and hold knowledge and crushing someone else's happiness with that newfound "power". This is why people set up bots to send spoilers if you say certain words on reddit and twitter. Same as trolling, different tactic. Sometimes though, it's just an uncaring person that doesn't see value in a story, and openly spoils to replace their frustration with the fact they're not as in love with it as other fans.
