I am used to drawing the traditional B/W manga with Clip Stuio ...

But want to investigate how to draw the colour webtoon in the future.

What software(s) & templates do you normally use?

Thank you.

I usually use Medibang Paint and Firealpaca, but now I'm migrating towards using CSP since it seems like it's more optimized for color comic making than some of the free programs. If I were you, I'd try getting used to drawing in color with CSP since it's already something you own, but Medibang and Firealpaca are both free, so there's no financial loss if you want to try those out.

Hubby uses Photoshop because well... we share a subscription with someone. And he likes it.

Yes ... I missed the filters and effects on Photoshop ... they don't have them in Clip Studio :frowning:

If you can afford it, they do have a subscription service. Also if you are a student you can get it stupid cheap.

What I do for https://tapas.io/series/ERAFLUX12 is sketch + ink on paper, scan into Autodesk Sketchbook to do flats, colors, shading.
From there I design the layout and lettering as follows:

  • For Print - Inkscape
  • For Web/Mobile - Adobe Fireworks

I get Adobe Creative Cloud for free. But, I use Adobe Animate to animate and I mostly sketch by hand and send the drawings to someone else to do.

I don't use any templates but I use Clip Studio Paint for my coloured comics too and it works wonderfully, tbh with so many free assets, all its rulers etc etc etc, it's an amazing program to make comics in. I don't see a reason to switch over if you already have it c:
The only thing I know is that people have complained about the lettering being a pain in the ass for CSP but I never had much trouble with it.

I do all of my (digital) drawing and painting in photoshop. As for templates, I do my line work traditionally on some 11x17 comic board so i guess that pretty much sets my size/ratio.

I use Medibang for Hybrid Society. It’s 100% free and has lots of comic making tools. It also have screen tones for anyone doing b/w comics.

I have a free copy of photoshop which I sometimes use for editting art and comics but I km terrible at drawing on PS because there’s no stabiliser and I have super shakey hands lol

I used to use SAI but it’s very outdated now and doesn’t work well with my Surface Pro. SAI 2 is meant to work a lot better and have tools for creating comics but I haven’t tried it and don’t really have a desire to since I downloaded Medibang.
