What stories inspired your writing?

Ooh, the shows and movies I love to watch are a big inspiration, especially for pacing and dialogue. I don't know if I'm directly inspired by any one in particular, but definitely an amalgam of all the stuff that pique my interest. Ones that stick out in my mind currently: American Horror Story, Sense8, and Bob's Burgers for comedy.

As for books, gosh, I haven't read a book in a while, hahaha. But my favorites are what I'd like to call "quiet" fantasies. Like there's not a grand epic quest, it's more introspective and just focusing on the characters as seen in the Moomintroll series, Alice in Wonderland, and to a lesser extent Beatrix Potter stories. Pretty much all the stories I write are like this.

Games mostly and watching anime. But what inspired me to write more is Rick Riordan. His way of writing, even if aimed for teens, and his plots are very interesting for me, plus I love his Magnus Chase series due to fascination over Norse Mythologies.

Calvin and Hobbes and Peanuts definitely taught me how to land a joke in four panels. Otherwise, most of my inspiration comes from various internet comics, like Rob and Elliot, Buttersafe, Octopus Pie. Scott Pilgrim could really get me laughing, just from how silly it is. Edgar Wright really did the movie justice.

for comics I usually go for a combo of web and asian comics(creative and cleane most of them), and for most of my creative juces I look more for good animations in youtube(I recommend the tale teller or the double king) or history lessons and documentaries I just love hearing about the epics and dumbes things in history good source for politic and story crafting imo

The obvious two for Templars is Watchmen and Sandman.

Watchmen paints a lonely lot of ex-heroes who've fallen from grace (one quite literally). The most compelling character for me was Doctor Manhattan, and I became interested in detached characters.

The Sandman creates a world outside our world (or more interestingly, beneath it) where Gods and concepts are personified and have arguments. I don't think there was much from the core concept that I took inspiration from (though the added history and mythology stoked a lot of imagination) but I loved the tone that could switch from horror to romance to comedy at the drop of a hat. Yet all the insanity was loaded with a real pathos, and a character arc that isn't spelled out for you.

I also really like Alfred Hitchcock films, hence the 1950s setting I adapted for my comic.

In fact, it's the book in my profile picture.
Most of the things I read in the Reynard cycle got me to think existentially.

Yet in a weird way, I would say FLCL influenced the atmosphere I like the most.

So I try to reflect that absurd yet relaxed feeling in my comics.

Great topic!

I am very inspired by Pixar, Loony Tunes, Bone, Naussica of the Valley of the Wind, Indiana Jones.... Etc. I love the Hero's Journey and feel it's a great way to structure a story. I think it's a great method to show someone learning something.

I'm also fond of the book "The Secrets of Story" it really gave me the inspiration to dive in and make my comic.

A lot of other comics.
Primarily I was inspired by Hellblazer, because who wouldn't be... it's one of the best comics DC has to offer.....
It offers a supernatural setting, but it's also gut a uniquely balanced attitude towards it - despite the fact there is a heaven and hell, the universe is presented without bias towards one or the other and they are seen as very similar. I kind of took a few inspirational pointers from that.

I was also inspired heavily (and this isn't even a story) by the band Franz Ferdinand. You wouldn't believe how much of my story / aesthetic came from their music and their presentation. Songs do have storytelling though, so I suppose it counts.
