What tropes are YOU breaking/keeping?

Sometimes if a character is struggling with low esteem or some kind of depression, the artist portrays their negative thoughts as a black inky creature that whispers mean stuff into the character’s ears :^) sometimes the monster has horns. It’s always black though.

Oh this sounds really interesting so here it goes I guess...

Keeping:
--Tall and "scary guy" is actually just shy and insecure.
--Short guy has big temper.
--Gay
--Protags are teens.
--Highschool (But only cause they're teens tbh)
--Easily embarrassed protag (simply cause he's just the worst -I mean the best-)
--Everyone can see they're into each other. (Is....is that a trope?)

Breaking:
--Any and all "Seme/Uke" tropes. (Cause irl that's just not a thing)
--Everyone is secretly gay. (Once again, that doesn't happen IRL)
--Wow it's been one chapter, time to do the sex
--Obnoxiously long and convoluted love triangles.
--Female=THE ENEMY
--Confession=instant relationship
--The entire plot being driven around homophobia...
--Now that we're a couple time to bring up THE EX™
--Bad proportions (as much as I can control that, lol)

I'm sure there are more, but I realized trying to put them into words is kinda hard? XD My comics are Long Shot and PAUSE

One big motivator for me to create a webcomic is to push this trope off a cliff.

Evil Albino - TV Tropes

One of my main characters has albinism and while he can be a jerk (like anybody else!) he's basically a good person.

I love subverting the evil albino trope too! It's proving a difficult one to skewer though. My villain/not-villain protag would easily fall into this category with the caveat that...he's not an albino, he's just old and his dark hair went gray early. and my readers are all like, 'no he's blonde'. it's becoming quite the running joke. so i'm like, 'no he's not an evil albino he's just an old guy' and they say 'nope lol try again'. this is so much fun.

I wrote my writer's camp romantic drama, specifically to break all the abusive BL tropes xD

Mental illnesses aren't an excuse, the relationship is healthy, the characters actually care for more than the other being handsome, cute or rich, there's meaningful conversation, etc.

I don't have much of anything to link to you, which I'm sure destroys all possible credibility I might've had. But oh well, there's nothing I can do about that. I'm trying to become a professional author and have a couple projects outlined and on the go as well as working on a webcomic project with an artist. Posting things online is a quick way to get blacklisted. When, in what way, and which one of those projects will be available first is dependant on a lot of factors not in my control right now.

With my current fantasy novel, some of the tropes I'm keeping are:
Protagonist has dead parents (though there is good reason for this as the protagonist is immortal).
Paragon protagonist.
Character looks young but is actually several hundred years old.
Vampires who summon undead.
Fallen hero.
The protagonist and the antagonist have a love-hate relationship.

Breaking:
There are absolutely no love triangles.
The protagonist isn't 'strong' as far as physical prowess or fighting skills go.
The protagonist doesn't have a magic sword... she has a magic shovel.
With the exception of the protagonist and a few minor characters, none of the 'good guys' are very good.

I always thought the evil albino trope was almost funny in how it gets every single thing about albinos wrong. (Of course, The DaVinci Code gets everything wrong anyway, starting with the title. Can we please shove every trope Dan Brown uses off a cliff?)

I have not been using the Ancient Aliens trope so much as I have been abusing the Ancient Aliens trope. In my satircal Alien Fiction books, my three primary aliens are called Isis, Shiva, and Odin because human cultures have recognized them as these gods. No one has complained about my blasphemy yet, and I consider that pretty strong evidence that nobody has read these stories.

@MrSpuds, among the five tropes you listed as breaking, Alien Fiction uses all five. I just thought that was a fun observation of mine. The quasi-exception is plot conflict comes from people being conveniently incompetent. I have a lot if incompetent characters, but I have no plot, so I dodged that bullet.

YES I think well thought out magic systems are always the best too! Or at the very least establish what characters can/can't do early on otherwise every smart move they make under the bad guys nose is just gonna come of as an ass pull.

I had to think kind of hard about my tropes. I haven't before so it's hard for me to notice them lol

Keeping
-- Protag's hair isn't a "natural" human color
-- Love at First Sight
-- Daddy Issues (lolz, so much keeping)
-- Step-mom is the Devil (sort of, but she does it for maternal reasons for her new child)
-- Fantasy novel = Dragons
-- Fantasy novel = Magic
-- Fights with magic involved are short
-- MC gets easily flustered when the right situation presents itself
-- Sexual attraction is a thing
-- Past and Mental issues presented through dreams

Breaking
-- Women aren't there just to break up the sausage fest
-- One person in the relationship is more sexually experience than the other
-- Homophobia is a thing. (it doesn't exist in my world, and hasn't been an issue in 1000+ years so it's stupid ancient)
-- A touch means OMFG let's screw now!
-- The end goal of the story is sex
-- The Chosen One is the MC
-- The only relationship that matters to the readers is the 2 MCs
-- The person who's single is secretly wanting to bed someone else, likely their childhood best friend / is secretly gay / cannot be happy single
-- (This is one of my few Chess jokes) The King has more power than the Queen
-- MC has no friends, must be lonely
-- Concussions are a thing and have side-effects
-- Characters feel emotions for longer than 2 minutes
-- "Quiet" does not mean disinterested, lonely, or shy
-- Damsel in distress (ok, the "damsel" is boy, but is never going to sit around and wait to be saved)

Do anything robot- Build-a can build almost anything. I’m not sure how she stores all her tools… but she does.
Fem-bots: …people wanted bots that looked male or female because that’s the world we live in. So yeah… bots have gender identities even though it doesn’t really make sense.
Cute machine- have you seen jump bot? Look at jumpbot!
Hopping machine- Again, jump bot
Humanity’s wake- Humans are dead and gone. Forever.
Heart drive- brain cases! They are built to endure almost anything.
TV head robots- Query, also being called best girl
After the end- Humans are gone now so what happens next?
Title drop: yeah we did this…
Forever war

We are not doing/breaking/subverting

Three laws compliant- the don’t really have set laws… nor are they forbidden from harming humans.
Artificial humans- humans are gone
Any clones trope- no cloning humans!

..... Thought we did more than this? Anyone else know tropes we broke or seem to be avoiding let me know because apparently I'm blind.

Good choise:
I feel like "Reformed Bully" is sort of a must a lot of the times to make the character likable. It's either that or the bully has to be entertaining on it's own so you don't want them to stop bulling otherwise their just mean for the sake of the plot needing an antagonist.
