What was the most bewildering thing you had to research for your story/comic?

Jeah, that is such a common misconseption, which is super interesting. And although growing up next to merging rivers I fell into this misconception myself when I started out xD

As I don't have children of my own, I had to research pregnancy... That stuffs disturbing in some ways :,)
It's not like it's eeew to me, as I helped countles calves into this world, but what the hormones do to your body like pregnancy-dementia IS a thing!
I'm super interested in the genetic aspect though, but I was researching on that since a teenager.

I researched laws around seal fur products in order to research my villain, resulting in me watching lots of creepy PSAs. (The lynx "scavengers" one from the 80s is horrifying.)

I've been down some rabbitholes for The Changeling's Sister over the years...

First off flower meanings and their uses for witchcraft, potions, and warding against fae, and other general folkloric stuff, but I have been interested in that since forever, so it was more finding out specifics.
But I also got an epiphany as looking up changelings in history brought me down the road of research papers, liking the changling folklore og autism, and a story used for medieval people to explain the eccentricities a child may display, and in general the interesting ways of mythology and folklore used as a tool of comprehension of someone's surroundings.

Also a lot of research into animal behaviour and social structures for a project I have in the works.

Ancient Roman Swearwords

Due to the romano-celtic derived alternate Britain setting of Errant, as well as the comic's typically around PG13 ish rating I generally try to keep close to, I thought it'd be fun if the characters swore in Latin! ....This turned out to be kind of hard to implement, and I only ended up using "podex" (roughly means "butthole") because:

1. A lot of Roman cusswords, due to being in Latin just sound like you're saying the medical names for genetalia or names of certain sexual acts.
2. A lot of the others are extremely graphic and unpleasant or very demeaning and nasty about women when translated.
3. While "Cack" (derived from cacare) would be appropriate, it just made everyone sound like they were from Northern England in the 90s, when that was actually common schoolyard slang, so I replaced it with "crap" because it just sounds better and gives me less high school cringe while having the same meaning.

Wouldn't call it bewildering but I learned how to properly write in Iambic Pentameter just for a lore snippet at the beginning of a chapter

Religion overall. I just love it. I find little stuff I didn't even know about, bringing me closer my faith. Specifically saints. I find crazy stuff like Joan of Arc jumping out of a 50 foot prison.... and living. How she had 9 victories and revolutionized war tactics despite her being an illiterate teenager (also she looked like this):

Like can you imagine this chick taking an arrow to the leg? Because she totally did lmao. Chick was fragile af but went total Doomguy. Can you imagine her doing an f'ing warcry while holding up a sword?

Or Vlad the Great, a dude with 900 concubines and massacred people in the name of paganism, only for him to convert when a guy just said "Dude... your god has a face, ours doesn't". Like legit, that's what made him go "Hm... you do have a point". I mean he still murdered the dude and his son, but like... it did make him look into religion. Again ONE SENTENCE IS WHAT IT TOOK TO CHANGE A BLOODTHIRSTY RULER. Eventually he changed his ways and went down as one of the best rulers in Russia. To the point where they still print money with his face. The dude also founded the Russian Church and I'm like "Dude this stuff is trippy. Why doesn't the Church talk about the saints more often?!?".

Like once you're a saint that means you got a fast pass to Heaven lmao.

Isn't one of the main criteria for becoming a saint is NOT BEING ALIVE? Unless you are implying these people sat in limbo for years before being allowed to ascend into Heaven.

If you want an interesting Saint, look up Francis of Assisi. I am not Christian but he is pretty cool. Maybe I like him because he is technically a mystic.

And what I meant is yeh, you don't become a saint if you WANT to be a saint. You become a saint after you die. I think I should rephrase what I meant since these guys (and gals) would obviously be going to Heaven like everyone else lmao. I guess what I meant is they're like "Oh hey, btw you're a saint. Come join us with the communion bebe".
