What were your biggest fears when you first started your webcomic?

With Numb it has been mostly "Will people like it or will they find it boring and bad". Alongside with "what if something happens and I fail at making enough pages on time and updates will be laaaaate" that's about it (for now I guess)

Mine would be that nobody reads my comic. Like your drawing it for nothing, ofcourse that ain't true but still.

Well, those fears don't go away easily. Even know I sometimes have little voices telling me that my current subscribers are just being nice. But still, what can we do? Keep drawing and ignore those voices C: There are people somewhere there waiting for your story!

I was always scared people won't like it and I won't achieve anything. When I was on InkBlazers I had like 100+ readers on my work and starting from zero here on Tapastic really let me down, BUT! I'm doing much better! I guess the only thing you can do is just move forward, listen to criticism and keep connected to your readers.

Always had the feeling that people would hate it and I mean really hate it, however I think having a good writer has helped a lot, though I am planning on taking over and writing my own, this is what I am fearing the most, Im not a good creative writer but I come up with ideas, but lack putting them together into something of a story

My biggest fear was quality. I've been worried that my comic wasn't worth publishing. But then if you look hard enough on the web you'll find web comics drawn as stick figures and I realized that mine does look better than stick figures so if stick figures are liked then mine will be too right? We'll see. I'm publishing a new episode tonight and tomorrow morning. WADE

This is true for me too! Getting started I had no expectations and was just excited, like "I'M FINALLY PUTTING THIS ON THE INTERNET, WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS!" It's later pages where I started thinking "ahhhhhhhhhh I hope this lives up to what it could be, I hope people understand, I hope it's fun"

I have this fear that people will hate my semi-stick figure characters. Especially if you compare to the many talents in here. I know that some people only read if your comic looks nice. But there's also people like me, who don't really necessary go for nice art, but also for the comedic side in it.

I was afraid of people not finding my story interesting, but more importantly, I was afraid people would decide not to read my comic because the characters are animal people instead of humans. I actually remember joining the forums and finding a discussion about how stories with animal people ("anthros") can still be serious and accessible to a broader audience rather than the niche audience most would expect. I was afraid that most audiences would skip it and leave me to only write for that particular niche community- which I don't want to be limited to.

My biggest concern was definitely "Will I be able to keep this up every week." I plan to see my webcomic through to the end of course but I was and still a little worried about how it will affect my daily schedule. Yes it has kept me busy during the busiest of time but so far I'd say I'm doing ok. Though I really wish I had an assistant to help me out sometimes hehe.

My other fear was having some people who know me irl find out im drawing all this gay

Looking back at the first pages and wanting to redo the whole lot, causing me to go into an endless loop of updating old content, I think that fits in to the theme of how it's going to come across to others.

Do you have any close friends you could run the story by? IRL or online? It could be helpful to get some initial feedback just to give you that initial confidence to just push it out there.

The Tapastic community are pretty helpful, so maybe even pilot it on the forums maybe?

Before I decided to upload the first pages of my comic Omi-Ni I was terribly nervous. Still am. I worry about the art, is the story engaging enough? will anyone want to know what happens next? Will the general crowd be as interested in my story, as I am? I found that I was asking myself these questions with every page, even during the art.
What about the dialogue? Is is good? I have those thoughts all the time, especially when I see comics with art waay better than mine - or even comics with art not as detailed as my own with more subscribers. But I can't let myself get too down with that. I love my story, and I think that's the most important piece.

My original fear was simply that I'm putting my heart out there and most people don't like to be vulnerable. ^^; And heck, there are a ton of wonderfully talented artists and storytellers here on Tapastic, so if my comic got buried at the bottom never to be read I prepared myself to think of it as motivation to improve. I still am hesistant sometimes when I post episodes wondering if they might be deviate a bit from my original light-hearted and positive beginnings, but so far I've received warm welcomes from Tapastic. Couldn't be more thankful for such a loving community. <3

Aside from the general anxieties of "Will it be any good?" and "Will anyone else like it?", my main fear was whether or not I was capable of doing something so big. Grassblades is going to be epic in length. We're talking about hundreds and hundreds of pages, possibly as much as 1000. That's a huge commitment.

We've both got the same fears. I did the math - Time Gate has well over 1000 chapters, based on my estimations of how long each book will be (there are ten books in total, with Reaper being book one, and onwards).

1000+ chapters. That's more than One Piece has now.

I'm mostly afraid of just not having enough time in my life to finish it. It's literally my life goal to finish it. If I died before Time Gate was finished, my spirit would probably just roam the earth, haunting the shit out of people.

...... Well I mean that's probably what's gonna happen anyway, I'd love to be a douchy demon ghost lol

Yes! I feel that way everytime I post a page.
Is the page good enough for them to enjoy? Do they understand the story? Is the speech bubbles placed right, any spelling errors, drawing errors etc...
The other thing is getting hateful comments (I haven't yet), but we'll know artist usually gets attack with mean comments.
So far everything is going great. Readers are enjoying my story. I'm getting great feed back and my story and art is improving as well.

I think I was mostly scared about losing motivation while trying to find my audience, just because I really did expect it to take a long time to get any sort of subscribers or comments or views. I've been really surprised though especially since only the first chapter is up.
I was also scared because I had a really hard time figuring out how to handle the first chapter and was making A LOT of changes as I was going and was constantly scared in the end it wouldn't hold up and would push people away versus draw them in.

Like others have mentioned, my fear was that people would think my writing sucked. I am not a writer, I am a storyteller, and it isn't exactly the same thing.

Guess what? Someone did say it sucked. LOL. We were only in our 2nd chapter and a big podcast reviewed it and called it "Poo." They had some valid criticisms, but some comments weren't fair as we were not far enough into the comic to have addressed those issues. I wrote and thanked them and defended a few points. I kept it professional and kind. They felt bad and retracted their comment. But they weren't 100% wrong and I did try to do better because of it.

We lived, and here we are years later, still going, and we do pretty well with it. We have gotten a lot of doors opened because of it. So it must not have sucked too much.

My point is. My worst fear came true and we didn't quit. We learned from it. Survived, and excelled past what we thought we could do. If you don't try you can't fail, but you can't succeed either.

Because we have a sense of humor, we were going to put "It's Poo" as a quote on the back of our book but we thought that not everyone would get the joke and it might be better to not do that.
