What's the hardest part of drawing your comic

For this past year, I've hated the penciling part of making my comic. It seems like it takes a LOT of energy for me to become motivated, to pencil up the page.

Inking, coloring, & lettering- doesnt bother me at the least- but I've always loved inking...I just wish I could figure out what it is that has me loathing penciling right now.

I get your pain, i don`t ink, but i paint with colored pencils. I had to restart a page when i went overboard with the eraser...

I think paneling and shading. Paneling is tough because I'm pretty new and I'm working with a legally blind writer. It's extremely difficult trying to make sure I'm getting the right kind of scene he wants because he just can't see well enough to comment properly. So it honestly takes a lot longer to get right than it normally would, days even. Sometimes I think I know what he means, confirm it and find out later it's completely wrong. :T

And then just purely on an artisitc level, texturing and shading. I find it really difficult to know where to cut back because I like to add minor details to everythingggg. But less is more and all, so I have to spend a while erasing a lot of lines that start to converge and make it hard to tell apart objects.

I don't know how much it'll help, but Paletton has a color wheel that lets you alter the colors to fit certain types of color blindness. Maybe that could be of use to you somehow.

I have a harder time writing than drawing and I guess thumbnailing might be what takes the longest time to do especially if I don't know where I want to set the scene or if I'm overthinking it.
One thing I actually set out to do is take away any part of the drawing process that I hate doing or takes a lot of time. For example I don't like to lineart so I make the lines sketchy lines I clean up a little, I don't like putting the flat colours so I I kinda paint everything together with the background in one layer. I enjoy every part of the drawing process because of this and I think it's one of the main reasons I'm still working on the comic.

well probably convincing myself to do it, cause my comics are crap and well I don't put in the effort to improve as much as I should. There are badly drawn, unfunny and just plain unappealing to look at.

But other than that probably hands and gestures, I cant have my charaters be a talking head I need to add something more than stiff hands down the side. So I draw them or what is barely a reference of them.

I feel the same way about backgrounds.

After that would be the line art, but not because it's that difficult (especially using digital software), but because it's boring to get through. It's like redrawing the sketch but slower and more careful. And when I finally get to the fun part, (coloring). I find that I missed some minor cleanup, such as bg lines overlapping fg lines.

Then again, maybe I'm doing it wrong.

I love drawing backgrounds actually. I think the hardest part is dialogue and speech bubbles being aesthetic.

For me it's also backgrounds. Not the actual drawing part, but designing the backgrounds and filling it up with clutter to make it look convincing, and then having to draw that same background in different panels at different angles O____O I know most people won't notice the tiny inconsistencies, but I always try to make it as consistent as possible :')

Right now I'm struggling with hitting my update, because I decided to make a seven page episode (typically I do 4-5 pages). I try to have my episodes correspond to story beats, so the length varies a bit, and having an extra long one almost doubles my workload (I update every three weeks). Seven pages probably doesn't sound like much, but it includes writing, layouts, pencils, inks, colors and lettering, and right now it's killing me. Ah well, the next one is only 4; should be a bit easier on the schedule.
