Swords tend to be a default of sorts but not because I love them but because I associate them with main characters. Despite this, I don't have a lot of characters who wield a sword, nor do I have weapons I prefer. I think I'm really fond of accuracy and speed though so I like a good sharp-shooter character - Train from Black Cat would be the best example of this. There's a video on archery I saw a few years ago where a dude examined old drawings of ancient archers and realized that archery wasn't "stand around, shoot from afar, be in constant danger in close-combat" but was possibly very dynamic and fast.

If I make a character who's good at fighting, I tend to make them good at unarmed combat. I have a dude who's all about fists and a girl who's all about kicks.

I have to admit those two are the most popular go to weapons in the world of fighting. If you aren't going with a sword you are mostly going to use your fists. stuck_out_tongue

Swords are the go to weapon for most protagonists, that is most likely why I like them so much. However, if any weapon put in the right hand albeit it a sword or a gun they can make the most of it. I also didn't know about archery being used as a form of close combat. The archers probably had quick reflexes to make it work.

Uh....I always wanted my character to be a ranged type.....but drawing a staff a bow is hard so.....magic hand instead??
but mostly i draw them using knives or schimitar weapons.Cause' i don't know how to do the magic effect tho.....DARNIT!

That's a weapon that seems interesting where that character has a magic hand. A combination I think might be interesting is using a sword with a magic hand on the opposite side increasing their versatility.

My favorite weapon (so far) for that is nothing. Not so much like martial arts or anything, but the idea that the character has a large amount of power in their body that can be released in various ways. Pretty much like some presentations of magic, but not completely overlapping. Does that make sense? The style and symbolism would be, "invisible power is still power."

I understand what you are saying, where its not a battle orientated story but, still have powers. In those cases symbolism is important tool to use so their are using their powers to influence the narrative.

Yes! That sort of element would actually cheapen most potential uses of battle. I guess I've never gravitated toward outright violence in anything I've written or drawn, though I don't mind the reality of real violence. I tend to think that battle is only for use when you've given up on more healthy ways to deal with conflict. Someone marching on you with awesome weapons might change your mind, though.

I used to look forward to the fighting parts of my stories and still do. However, these days they are more or less a means to an end. Like my story Seishin Patona focuses on how to change the world's view of racism, so they are going to have to butt heads with a few people. I look forward more towards the drama like the characters reacting to certain events that's what really catches my attention more these days.

I'm a big fan of the very obscure and creative weapons, such as Ryuko's giant broken scissor from Kill La Kill. I'd share my idea of what my favourite "strange" weapon would be but if I ever do think of something really cool I'd end up keeping it a secret! wink

I would say...a staff. Or any other magical item. I'm more the typical backline person then the frontline sword slashing warrior.Mostly because melee mode never worked for me in games xD. So I rather stay on safe mode and give my characters a balanced weapon and both offense and defense.

Being strategic is actually the best method of survival. Using magic from afar would definitely help you survive. Like the old saying, "it brains over brawn".

I don't create comics, I write Steampunk fiction. That's why I have swords there not too often. Mostly my characters have firearms. The last of my characters, inspector Cane, use a pistol, but as far as plot goes, he uses a sniper rifle with fancy scope. Why? Because I like guns with scopes, LOL. My grandpa was a hunter and he took me for hunting from time to time. By the way, finding a model for inspector Cane rifle with scope was a hell of a problem. But I nailed it. One of my friends showed me review of best rifle scopes and I have found a proper model for my character. By the way, they sell cool stuff as I saw.
