by which i mean, what type of character do you seem to always be writing?

i think most writers, even good ones, have a Type. terry pratchett writes an awful lot of loveable rapscallions. neil gaiman writes an awful lot of Cool and Collected Blokes. joss whedon writes female characters who are totally feminist, but in like, a sexy way... what kind of character do you often find yourself writing, by accident or on purpose?

myself, i tend to end up writing orphans with trust issues and a complicated relationship with religion. also, lots of signature scarves. i love a good signature scarf.

I tend to write a lot of the reserved geniuses. I think it kinda started because I was sick of seeing smart people in stories always be loud and abrasive, so I started making intelligent characters who feel a bit of a divide with the other characters, because they feel that they cannot relate to one another. Typically, they tend to find out that this isn't the case at all, though.

Cross dressers, no matter what the era or gender - soo many cross dressers

I'm always writing lovable idiots!
I don't know why but I find them so charming. I always end up liking the dumbasses in TV shows and movies... Their naiveness always makes me laugh

Some of my favorite lovable idiots:
-Charlie from It's Always Sunny
- Yuuko Aioi from Nichijou
- Me.

I often go with sarcastic and slightly cold heart character. I'm a pretty glass half empty kind of person.

Generally speaking, I don't lean on anything, but when creating main protagonists and antagonists, it's different. I tend to write both with a little bit of each other - I tend to create protagonists with imperfect values or morals, and create antagonists with more relatable feelings.

i love lovable idiots / goofballs!! they always end up being my faves, and i end up mimicking them by accident if i binge a series... terrible

(i can see the goofball archetype in you, definitely lovable  )

Lol aww!
That's actually one of the reasons why I hate "modern" Spongebob.. Patrick used to be one of my favorites because he was really dumb but also a good friend... And then season 4 happened

Classical anti heros. I do some modern versions of anti heros in my work but classical ones always stuck with me like Poe's and Kafka's work. People who've hit a rock and hard a place and almost deteriorate as a human being.

hmmmm... i'd say talented characters. they're either artists, athletes, singers, instrumentalists or something along the lines of that. just to give them a bit more character i suppose lol

I love writing Foe Yay5 , like a lot. Mostly friendly rivalries or those who don't get along at first! Keep liking them in comics I read!

I love making maternal characters. They're not always women or in parent roles, but I have a soft spot for making characters that are comforting, very easy to open up to, supportive, and endearing. Of course, I also love putting those characters in out of place settings sometimes to make their personality a bit warped (like Horror, for example ^^).

I tend to create characters with low self-esteem. shrug

Oh my gosh, that's one of the main reasons "Modern" Spongebob doesn't do it for me. What happened to the days when Patrick and Spongebob have a fight but then make up after they realized they were best friends and cared about each other? ;w;

I don't think I have found my character type yet. I try to make a conscious effort to always mix it up. I did and do a lot of Roleplaying (Pen&Paper, LARP) and it's boring to make your characters to similar there. Some of my inspirations originated from there, so I think my character roaster is pretty varied right now. I haven't written a lot yet, so over time I may discover my type a little more ^^

That being said I have certain character traits I give a lot of them. Many of my characters have a short temper, many of them see themselves as disconnected from the rest of the world (either because of arrogance or as a reaction to being ostracized) and many of them have a strong moral compass they follow (as misguided as it may be). It is important to me that my characters are driven individuals. They need to have some goals or an agenda, they want to follow.

So I guess I write a lot short tempered, but independent outsiders, with big goals they want to achieve.

i always seem to be writing kinda sorta assholes with hearts of gold. But like instead of keeping them that way i actually make them develop until theyre not assholes anymore and are actually kinda decent people. think if regina george from mean girls got a redemption arc.

I tend to write characters that are poor. I don't know why, I like drawing their tiny houses.

I also seem to be drawn to characters with mixed families. Be it from adoption or having a biracial character. This is mostly just based off my own family.

Also awkward people with anxiety.
