I really like to play JRPG's I don't have a series in particular, as long as their is good characters and story the game can win me over.
However, the Smash Bros. and the Soul Calibur series are my favorite video game series I had to pick. Despite them not being JRPGs I like the fun mechanics of Smash Bros. and the deep fighting mechanics and riveting story of Soul Calibur.
I have a love hate relationship with the Final Fantasy series myself (especially 13) I either really love the game (FF4, FF9, Tactics being some of my favourite titles), or I absolutely loath it (FF8, FF11, The tactics games they had on the DS), the only one that managed to get awkwardly stuck in between me liking and loathing it 13.
I really liked the characters for 13, but the game play and story telling were some of the worst I've put myself through (characters would keep bringing up words or names of factions or historical events and you would have no godly idea of what they were talking about until after the cut scene, when the database in your menu got updated with the description or explanation. If you need to read through a dictionary/encyclopedia to understand 90% of the story then THAT'S BAD ****ING STORYTELLING. And yeah, I finished the game, because I liked the characters and lets face it, the game wasn't hard to play, you could pretty much play through that game in your sleep everything was so easy and automatic. (in fact I managed to get through the last half of a dungeon sleeping, not sure what I did but I woke up in the middle of a cut scene and thought 'oh I'll just restart' and when I did a re-played what I 'played' through while sleeping I apparently had to fight a firggen boss battle that I had apparently beaten previously in my sleep????) It was just tedious and time consuming.
13-2 was even worse, though it didn't have the horribly liner gameplay as the first one I hated all of the new characters you were stuck playing as, as well as replaced the battle system with a 'catch a monster in the dungeon and use it to battle for you' one (one of my least liked videogame mechanics outside of pokemon) And though I told myself "This game is garbage and not fun, but I want to at least get through it far enough to see what the characters from the previous game are up to. I could not force myself through it, and just looked up the cut scene vids on youtube.
Lightening Returns I actually really enjoyed.
Also love that stupid FFRK and Theatrhythm games. I have an unhealthy addiction to them.
Aside from the FF series I really enjoy the Tales series, Disgaea series, Metal Gear series, Rune Factory series (Harvest Moon I enjoy too but have become boring for me since this one came out. I still enjoy them but not near as much) Bayonetta series, Dynasty warriors spins offs / rip offs (I actually not a huge fan of the dynasty warriors series themselves... but give them a Gundam, One Piece or Zelda skin and I can't figgen put the game down) Sonic the Hedgehog (even though... yeah... I don't think I need to explain)
I've also become unexpectedly attached to the lego games, originally I only played them with kids when visiting and I got the 'hey you like playing games, why don't you go watch the kids for us' scenarios going to relatives houses, but I kinda got hooked on them and pick 'em up for myself when they hit that 19.99 bin.
As written somewhere else, it's The legend of Okami : Fire Attorney.
I love Okami, it's a perfect game for me. The game is beautiful, dense, emotional, really fun to play and it got the most badass wolf-goddess. (like... the last battle is so intense! If you played it, you must know what i'm talking about)
The Zelda serie is also one of my favourite. The only time I' didn't like a Zelda was Spirit tracks. Otherwise, my goodness! This serie last for more than 20 years and it is understandable why. I LOVE IT. Each time I see something about Zelda I get excited. my favourite is Twilight Princess, then Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker.
Another serie I love is Fire Emblem. Though I have a lot to say about the direction it takes now (it's not a complain topic, but I like less and less the art direction, the story, the waifu/children system of doom, and some of the mechanics), I've played the 7/8/9/10/11 and read about the 1/3/6 because the others were really obscure some years ago. I love how the game defy you each time, how you have to deal with all the maps, all the changes, train units, find good ones (and not only by the looks). The stories are also really nice (though it's a little bit simple), and it is a medieval fantasy serie. And I like medieval fantasy.
And the last one is Ace Attorney. Oh guys, the new one got images, I want to see Maya in a channeling system like this one.
Ace Attorney is again, a reflexion game, but it's really intense and crazy. My favourite character is Phoenix all the way, because it's Phoenix Wright. The characters all got unique character designs, the stories are well written (even if they are crazy and complex), I love objecting at everything, and understand that the killer killed Mr Somebody by hiding in a box with a spoon then disguised himself as mr somebody, left the crime scene then changed himself in another one then left the spoon at a strange place and... huuuh it's amazing. (there is no crime with a spoon)
And the crossover game was also really good. But I'm a fangirl of both Ace Attorney and Professor Layton, so they got me easily.
I was addicted to Harvest Moon before I got to play Rune Factory 3, and I agree with you that Rune Factory made Harvest Moon boring. There's so much more to do in Rune Factory compared to harvest moon. I have HM:A New Beginning and Rune Factory 4 on the 3DS and I can say that Rune Factory 4 made me forget my harvest moon game.XD (i'm still buying Story of Seasons though)
I do hope that somebody develops Rune Factory 5 since Neverland ceased operations late 2013.
@sarahrebecca58 Makes me happy that people will still mention Final Fantasy VI--one of my favorite games of all time, along with Chrono Trigger. I'm playing the Last of Us now and it's fantastic--alternating between that and Ni No Kuni. Probaby couldn't pick two more different games.
@AnnaLandin Agree with you about FF13.
@getsuart Agree with you re: Spirit tracks. Trains---eh, not a great mode of transport in a Zelda game. Did love 3DS Link Between Worlds
Oh man, I live for Final Fantasy- and Assassin Creed series. Even though both have been criticized lately for their latest games, but gah, maybe it's something in my heart that goes soft for them. There's also the Sims series- aliens that can impregnate men, that's a win for me for sure- and a bunch of others. This question made me want to whip out my ps2 and just play the old' games again.
I don't play games, instead I love reading books. But my cousin loves to play video games and have a collection of games like battalion, overwatch, doom, and many more. And now, on his upcoming birthday I'm thinking of gifting him the upcoming series of World of Warcraft Legion Kaufen, as I have watched the video on this page and I feel he would like this challenging game. Please suggest me where can I get games at the best price.
Hmm... I'm an old school kind of gamer.
I love The Legend of Zelda, particularly A Link to the Past on SNES and Link Between Worlds on the 3DS.
Earthbound for SNES is one of my favorite RPGs ever....Chrono Trigger a close second, and I even liked the sequel, Chrono Cross.
I also really like StarTropics on the old NES.
