I've seen upwork and the 10 plus 3 percent fee looks scary. I'll try looking on the subreddit later. Thanks.

@VibrantFox Yes, I did posted it on twitter and got some share, but they doesn't seems to help in any way...? If you want to help share it, this is the initial post :

Or should I just link you the price and portfolio post? Thanks for the help.

I Have account here. Never got any work. If you're a small artist you'll practically will be buried here.

I got some commissions on deviantart, it helps a lot if you keep actively looking for potential clients instead of just posting a commission journal and leaving. Look at the job offers forum daily, search for recent journals with "commission" on the title and try to find people looking for something that fits your style and comment with some samples and prices... it can be boring and there's a lot of people who only want super cheap art, but it's better than nothing if you're desperate

I got emailed an offer for some comic work because they found my profile on ArtStation, so I guess the lesson there is don't underestimate the value of having a presence on professional sites. Otherwise the work I found was on reddit and Deviantart. (Though I never advertise on DA anymore, the culture in entrenched in the expectation for $1 jobs.)

I use deviantart to search for orders. But I do not wait for me to be found. When I need orders, I check the forum there at least 2-3 times a day, because the competition is big and many customers find the artist quickly.

Is it really okay to use deviantart for job hunting when I haven't been updating my art there for a long time?

I rarely upload new artworks to the gallery and I have almost no subscribers. I just made a portfolio folder on sta.sh and give a link to it. It is also very convenient to add examples from there when you reply in the forum thread.
The only thing I advise you to do in your account is to write a post in the Journal with your prices. Almost all customers are asked to write prices.

Hmm. I don't particularly use da anymore cause it's just too tedious to keep, so I'll try my luck with linking it to my other portfolio site or my site. Not sure if it gonna work but I'll try later. Thanks.

I just joined upwork the other day by the way, there's ads posted every hour. It's a bit of a step above DA but you'd be writing cover letters and answering questions on some proposals.

Edit: Be very wary about anything that asks for t-shirt designs and stickers. They'll pay you nickels to profit off of the designs as merch sold in their online store.

Sometimes if you draw Mickey and Minnie mouse doing a sport like Ice Skating or Archery people would buy it. Be warned, Disney will sue you for money.

Hi, so I was looking at the da forum and for confused with the layout? Is there a way to make it only shows the latest post?

Something to also consider is a lot of people don't know what the word "illustration" or "commission" is. So they'll say "I'm looking for a graphic designer to make me a logo" when what they need in the job description is an illustrator to draw a caricature of their face for a business card--like not even a logo. One time someone on a job board said they needed a "line artist" for a job, and when I applied she was like "i dunno you said you were an illustrator but I need someone to draw me lines" and it turns out they just needed me to draw outlines of socks (like literally just socks. Easiest job I've ever done). So maybe check out in other art genres to see if anyone's...just misunderstood what illustration is.

Ooh... That might be a good thing. I've seen a lot of "looking to make a logo" before but never applied here cause I didn't do logo. Guess I'll just apply to anything with it and graphic artist or the like from now on since I'm getting desperate.

Oh and another good one for a quick buck, is people looking for profile avatars--you might want to look for that as well.

For those who suggested deviantart, could you take the time to explain how you add images to a forum comment or post over there without having to upgrade to Core?

Thank you.

There's this add media on your reply. Just look at the pop up and click either deviantart or stash.

Idk if it’s because I am on tablet but every time I click the add media it says only available for core members.

Fiverr
- I understand what you mean about the cut! I started using it recently and charge USD while I'm in Canada, so by the time the currency changes I make in CAD about what my prices were (if that makes sense). I kinda look at the cut as payment for the gigs coming to me. I can just leave them up, have the app and forget about it - until a client reaches out to me. So it's less work on the promoting yourself / searching for job end at least.
I'm not really sure what you mean about the digits and the issue there though. But i'll leave this comment here in case someone else is trying to find some places for commissions too ^^

YCH
- Maybe try Your Character Here commissions, I started these recenty and it seems there's a decent market for them on deviantart (which, i know i know - not the best place. But the YCH community doesn't seem half bad. Most from what I see are willing to pay proper prices) with the holidays coming up, I suggest doing quick holiday icons or something that you can use the same base for if you need quick cash.
You can probably try selling these elsewhere, I just see they're more established/known about on deviantart.
