Which comic platform is safest to use?

I was reading the thread about someone having their comic deleted from this platform, so it got me thinking... Which platform do you think censors the least? I wanted to ask this on that thread but it didn't seem appropriate thus why I'm making the question over here.

Webtoon goes as far as deleting pages/chapters when you have like a character changing their clothes or like in swimwear, yes, even if it's a guy using swimming trunks you are at risk of getting that deleted XD

I've read posts about people complaining of their chapters getting deleted because a character had too much cleavage, that kind of thing.

But anyway! Which site would you think has the least censorship? Not because one wants to draw r18 stuff but because having to fear censorship even for cleavage or a guy in swimming trunks.

I know of Tapas and webtoon, webcomics (I only know they want to review every chapter you submit so I guess the censorship might be similar though I dunno) I also know of lezhin though I haven't uploaded anything there so I dunno how the censorship is.

All in all, which site would be safest for uploading content like blood, characters changing clothes, girls with cleavages or even guys in swim wear? XD Which platform would be safest so a thing like your whole comic getting deleted doesn't happen?

I at least know deviantart allows most stuff if a mature tag is added, though even if it's not tagged, they don't censor because of swimsuits or cleavages (though I'm well aware it's not a comic platform and it's actually awkward to upload there cause #format

Well, I've drawn my boys shirtless a few times (i'm from Brazil, is commom for guys to be shirtless around here all the time cuz summer all the time), and I never got eny problems. I even showed a girl's bum once, and nothing, the page's still there, I've never got any request to censor my work. Even my gorey scenes are still there. However, my comic is small, so maybe it's because of that that I don't have any issues, idk? But it is something I'm concerned about sometimes, how far can I go?
I just post my comic here on tapas for now, I'm curious to know about other plataforms too. I've heard WebToon is kinda strict? So i'm afraid of posting there as my work is a bit mature.

Ah, I see. Yeah Tapas seems to not do this but Webtoon is ridiculous at what it censors xD if you try webtoon just remember it's not your shirtless guys, it's... webtoon. Tapas hasn't asked me to censor anything either so it's a relief but webtoon does censor things that are just natural

I have uploaded pages with shirtless men/boys and I have never had an issue with that. But then again, my series are not sexual or fan service-y at all, so maybe that it why I am OK.

In the past Tapas used to be more lax but stricter US laws and COPPA sort of lead to Apple having to be a bit stricter on "adult" content. This is why you can't view Mature series from the app. I sort of wish Tapas was better at dealing with this instead of just deleting series.

As for which platform censor the least, IDK maybe self publishing. As long as it's not illegal stuff, I think you can get away with most stuff. But finding an audience may be difficult.

I believe there are platforms such as INKR Comics (I have a friend whose content couldn't be accepted on webtoon, tapas or any of the well known platforms that are pretty popular, so he had a hard time until he find this one)

If I recall correctly, Lezhin and Webcomics App are a bit less strict than Tapas, and definetly have a more tolerant userbase, so you won't deal with SJW readers most of the time or risk yourself to have your content reported by them at the point Webtoon automatically removes it.

Another site that either require minimal censorship o can be just... nude with the tiniest mosaic in genitalia is Pixiv, and the english userbase is increasing so it's more likely to find readers

You can also publish your work on FurryAffinity (Not only for furry, and comics can be honest, if tagged properly like the rest of the artwork but the layout of the platform is not adapted for comics, at least from what I remember)

I recently started hosting on Comicfury and it's hands down the least censored. All the gore and banging your heart desires! It's more indie driven, so if you're trying to appease the overlords at Tapas or Webtoon there's certainly not as much money in it's but there's plenty of exposure. I just think it fits my comic's vibes more than these corporate webcomic apps.

Ohh the not having issues was on webtoon? Maybe it's a russian roulette then, as in, if you're unlucky they censor you (?)

Comicfury, flowfo, epico are censorship free, globalcomix is fine with what used to be acceptable on tapas back when I joined

Comicfury and The Duck Webcomics. They're both veteran sites that have been around since the early 2000's, and allow anything outside of hate speech. They both have their own little perks too. Comicfury is the closest you'll get to a free stand alone site since you can customize your comic landing page and all that, the community is also really nice and active for it's size. The owner of CF is also a really nice guy just running the site in his spare time, so no big corporations involved. The Duck, while not being customizable and a little more tacky looking, holds annual reward events, weekly comic spotlights, weekly Twitter Q&A's and regularly posts news updates that encourage engagement.

Both sites have forums as well, which is nice.

Ohh I see, the exposure seems appealing BD and yeah I'm interested to have like another backup site since tapas and specially webtoons feel like time bombs XD One can think their content is okay until the platform just says otherwise :s

Yeaaah the problem with webtoons is that it doesn't have to be sexy xD Just googling you can find people complaining about webtoon deleting things like a character changing clothes (without being sexy) or even girls with cleavage which doesn't have to be sexy, I remember one person complaining the girl barely had any and it got deleted anyways.

Hmm... I wonder if it's really the page or people just reporting for the sake of it :0

I heard some of the user on Webtoons can be a bit intense if you piss off the wrong crowd. I have heard that people will show up to complain about kid/teenage characters using cuss words and petty stuff like that. There is issues with dog-piling there and review bombing comics out of spite.

No problem, I like CF, have been on there for YEARS and want more people to be on it. I myself was going to use it as my main site, in case my comic got kicked off Tapas and Webtoons, before I got picked up by a collective.

I have literally two characters discussing something and one is in the shower. This is published on webtoons with zero problems. I had one character rip the arms off of someone in full view of the reader, zero problems on webtoons. Once again pg-13 is the goal to shoot for on an all ages platform. It's how you present it. If you think it would get an R rating in a movie, be prepared to censer. You get a warning that my comic deals with mature content as you open it, but I put that in the description so it should come as no surprise to anyone reading it.

Hmmm... With the replies here I actually am thinking the ones truly making webtoon delete their pages are the users reporting the pages, since there's people that have complained over pg-13 things getting deleted by webtoon.

So if it's the users, then it's not a matter of how you present but who read the page and got offended by it for some reason :0

Personally, I only got one page down but that was on webtoon (spanish version) not on the english one so I really do wonder what the difference was hmm

It's worth remembering that it's a lot easier for sites like Comicfury and The Duck to be way more lenient on this stuff because they don't have apps and so don't need to worry about Apple's puritanical rules like Tapas and Webtoon do, but that this also means they have far reduced audience reach and that monetisation is entirely up to the creator.

If you're confident that your edgy, adult or raunchy work can build an audience and make money on Patreon and stuff without needing the exposure of being on an app, or your audience falls largely outside the "mostly women around age 20" demographics of Tapas, then making a site or going on Comicfury and The Duck may well be the best way to make your way in comics. Other people may feel that toning things down to a more PG-13 sort of level to fit better on apps and using Tapas and Webtoons inbuilt systems for getting discovered and monetisation are a better bet. Some people also find that having a heavily censored version on apps to point people to the uncensored one on a site or Patreon works well for them.

Ultimately, they're all totally viable options, and you need to do what's best for you and your comic.

Comicfury, I guess. The forum community there is really nice as well. Not that the Tapas forums aren't nice or anything, it's just an observation.

Webtoon is by far the most toxic of all platforms. I suspect it's because of spiteful creators (not readers) who need to bomb others' scores to make themselves look better, since a lot of it stemmed from creators sharing links on creator communities. Also, a complete lack of community of Webtoon makes it feels distant from everything else. Corporate to the max. Ugh, why is my comic even still on Webtoon now that I think about it?
