Which Genre do you specialize in?

My sweet spot is Adventure Comedy. I've written Slice of Life Comedy and Drama and even a few period pieces, but I feel most at home with crazy adventures and the laughter that comes from those situations.

I long to write a great mystery someday, but I need to figure out the best venue (play, radio play, tv show, movie, short film, comic book, webcomic, book) to do that.

Mine'll be the "slightly obscure gag that I'm not sure people get" genre. But there's never an option for that on the sites I use...

I tend to stick mainly to humour related to films, music and sometimes technology. Although I am planning to start a story some time soon that's mystery/thriller (and also film-related). But I'll wait to see how that goes before I start using words like "proficient"! I'm still piecing together the ideas for it, I don't like starting things if I'm not certain where it's going so it might be a while.

I do have some other ideas I'd like to work on that probably come under speculative fiction which I think could be very interesting. I should hurry up with those ideas before they become either non-fiction or alternative history!

Genres I think I would struggle with: I think similar to the OP, writing romance I'd find difficult.

Having a basic understanding in animation goes a long way when working on comics. It helps you understand how characters should move.

My current comic deals with racism, one of the first stories to tackle that subject. Comedy isn't my strong suit but I a made parody comic of my current comic Seishin Patona. It's called Seishin Patona Parade. I did so I have a place to add funny scenarios I that hit me

Adventure stories are also my strong suit because my stories usually involve some sort of traveling. Comedy and Slice of Life are areas that I don't venture into very often, so I am not familiar with how to write them properly. Mysteries is another genre I don't really explore, I wouldn't know how to approach. There are alot of genres I don't know how to write for , well at least I can make some good action scenes.

A mystery if done correctly can engage the reader into believe it is they who solved the case, I don't know of any examples off hand. Romance is very tricky because you can force it and at the same time you have to make the signs somewhat noticeable.

I guess you can add adventure to the list of genres I've worked on, since it's a major part of one of the action stories I was writing. Comedy too, because nothing I write is all serious.

im best with 4 genres which r comedy, horror, fantasy, and romance

More so I don't actually think of a genre during the writing and drawing process, I just focus more on telling the story then labeling it I guess. It's more so during the uploading phase where I go "uhh... what the hell is this anyway...?"

To be honest, L and I actually are best at horror/macabre genres.
But my Dad is a Trekkie, western and action fan, which led me to write and create :EPOCH Files with L, who is interested in those genres as well.
Slice of Life/Comedy comes naturally when you work as a librarian - I really think so. xD

Mine would obviously be BL / Yaoi, and I love to go from comedy then drama. (I noticed that a lot of good comedy mangaka's can make the most heartwrenching dramas. I aim to be the same. ><)

I'd like to try my hands on some universally G (general patronage) stuff, so I can show it to my family and make them proud LOL), but no inch of idea comes to mind. OTL

My next forte, which I have not shown much yet, is guro/horror and that's not something I can share with my family either.

I just like history, so it's fun to interpret it in your own way. For me, I still do create a fantasy world, but keeping the core bits that hold true to a certain time period. I'm not that strict in forcing my story to keep to within the boundaries of being "historically accurate" xD

I agree with romance, it's a strong driving factor in most stories(it certainly is in mine). I'm not so great at writing romance either but I love ships and I can ship anything and everything, which means I enjoy writing it too

We are almost two peas in a pod, except for the comedy part. What write is mainly serious wiht comedy sprinkled here and there.

Out of the four you are good at I am only good at fantasy because I like making a world with its own laws. Action is one of specialties so I have confidence that my fights will be good to a degree.

Using real life experience to enhance your comic makes life a little easier for you. I haven't delved into horror becuase I don't know how to creep people out. One question though what is "macabre"?

I think its okay to write BL / Yaoi as long as the romance between the characters and the plot has some substance I think they wouldn't mind unless they are homophobic. You could also write something that is generally accepted by most readers art is the field where you must adapt after all.

I do the same with my romance as well where I like to ship certain characters and convince the reader to ship them too.

Yes, I am aware. I myself dislike most PWP as I always look for substance and depth, which are what I also apply in my works and I'm happy that my readers notice too. My family is homophobic, unfortunately. Yep, I am trying to find a concept that would appeal to most readers, just as I mentioned earlier, but I suck at that. ^^; It's like I'm a natural when it comes to things related to BL, gay romance and horror.
