Which Genre do you specialize in?

Another question for the people of Tapastic, which genre or genres traits (max genres 2) of comic do you think you are most proficient in. For the fun of it what genre do you struggle with?

I believe I am proficient in Action/Adventure and Fantasy. I know how to make a story exciting as far as throwing in fights and unfavorable odds being stacked against a character. Adventure because in most of my stories my characters are traveling however, I am just learning to really make memorable or distinct environments. Fantasy, this is a strong area for me because bending the laws of reality is fun. It makes the world your comic takes place in truly special.

I believe the Romance Genre is where I struggle. I have difficulty making a relationship feel natural without forcing it. In most of my stories the clues are too obvious, however sometimes it has to be obvious. I believe its more or less I struggle to make the relationship grow without alot of ship teases.

So tell me which genres you are good and the ones you are bad at.

I think I'm good with everything but action and horror.

I cannot choreograph an interesting fight scene to save my life and I feel like whatever I can think of isn't scary enough for horror.

I'd say "adventure" and "speculative fiction" - the latter of which spans fantasy, scifi and even the odd ghost story. I do dip my toes into other genres, but that's where I feel most comfortable.

I'm not great at romance, but I'm making an effort to improve - the key is, as you say, not to force it, I think. Also, allow the readers to get to know the characters.

Also, I'm not too good at horror - probably because I'm a scaredy-cat.

Slice of Life I feel is without a doubt my niche. That and any fanworks I feel I would also be good at. Not too sure what I would fail miserably at writing however.

i like writing stories on urban fantasy and soft science fiction. with urban fantasy i can go wild with metaphors and imagery; with sci-fi it's good worldbuilding exercise and the masters of the genre have shown its potential to go philosophical.

i probably struggle with westerns, mostly because i kinda avoid the genre to begin with... lol. sorry guys, cowboys just dont catch my eye.
nor can i do action. i can write torture scenes, because i usually do slow-paced stuff. when it comes to fights im not sure how to do the flow so im like "he punched. then he got punched. it hurt."

i really dig fantasy and comedy stuff. even tho right now im makin a scifi/comedy one. i like makin up myths and worlds and powers and junk so fantasy works hecka good for that. plus i just like funny things and dont like takin things too seriously so that works out i guess. but because of that i think my biggest problem is writin real lifey serious stories. like those stories that are all "works at the office. comes home. kid had a fight in school. oh no look at these bills! drama drama no magic blah blah aftershave and shoehorns" i suck at those. like that was literally the best i could do with that

My current story and other stories I plan to work on in the future all fall into a historical fantasy plus some romance category, though all have different settings and time periods. It's pretty niche, and an odd genre really xD But it's the genre I'm most comfortable and have most fun writing.

On the other hand, I'm awful at writing sci-fi (excluding things like steampunk or cyberpunk). While I do enjoy the occasional sci-fi, I lack the interest in writing or drawing it. Futuristic stuff like Star Wars, Knights of Sidonia, mecha shows are my total opposites!

Slice of life and romance? Or comedy. Definitely not action and horror. I am not proficient in coming up with action scene and as for horror, well, I get spooked easily so I'd rather not do that to myself.

That's a tough one. I like to blend genres in my stories. Right now, I'm writing more slice of life and fantasy with a little romance mixed in. My first couple stories had more action and I'd like to do more of that.

Hmm maybe Slice of life/Romance? I don't think I'm very good at making huge story plots, I feel more confident in building up characters and their relationships and having them revolve around a simple plot. My current comic is like this as well as some of the later ones I'm planning, I really enjoy working on these types of genres since it's the stuff I like to read too.

But I think I'm really bad at fastasy, probably historical too, not very good at imagining these kinds of plots or creating a world or any of that sort of stuff..

I definitely specialize in fantasy, specifically dark fantasy. I know how to write action and adventure and romance stories as well, but my cozy place is definitely in the world of horrific, complex fantasy tales. And as some people can tell with my work, I enjoy getting myself wrapped up in long projects vs. one-shots (never been a fan of short stories much IMO; I don't really like reading them and I don't like writing them).

I like Horror and drama too...
But I guess I write better drama/action/friendship (not the action scene tho) and make better comedy/slice of life genre. I would love to make a horror comic tho.

I'm good with any genre where I can really create , but if I had to pick two I'd say Fantasy and Romance.

For genres I struggle with...definitely the ones where it HAS to be a certain way: Comedy HAS to be funny, Horror HAS to be scary, Slice of Life HAS to be accurate to the time period and place you're setting it in...

I like writing stories where there's more freedom to see where it goes as opposed to doing a ton of research up front, or sticking to a formula!

Fights are hard to choreograph I usually spent a day drawing them in stick figures and posing myself so I know what position to put them in.

Romance is a balancing game where you have to make sure the clues aren't too obvious or not obvious enough. You also need to make the relationship go gradually. Horror I never have tried but, I don't know how to scare people.

One day I may try to write a romance its been on my mind ever since my brother and I started watching various types of anime on Crunchy Roll and Hulu.

Slice of Life is definitely a genre I haven't ventured into, my characters are always travelling.

I agree there is something about Westerns that doesn't appeal to me. As far as your weaknesses they are the opposite of mine. I struggle with writing an action but I can sure make the actions look interesting.

Fantasy is also my forte I like to bend the laws of reality. As far as humor, I don't know if my comedy is a hit or miss. I made a parody comic of Seishin Patona my comic series. It's entitled Seishin Patona Parade where the characters from the parent comic are in funny scenarios. I think this may help with my comedy.

I have never been a fan of loosely basing my comic on historical events than I can't make the world up. Romance is my weakness yet I include it in my work because the characters that travel together go through so much together so they have to rely on one another for support. I also started messing with futuristic setting with my comic but, I still think I have a long way to go before I am any good at that genre.

I am your opposite, I am good at action (not horror) but, suck at slice of life and romance. It's probably because I haven't attempted to work in those genres.
