Why are you continuing to post on Tapas?

I'm currently thinking of self-publishing my next novel for various reasons (the quality of my work has gotten better, the genre is less suited to Tapas' audience, less time to consistenly publish, Tapas' audience for novels shrinking, etc.), but I've always enjoyed posting my work on Tapas. So now I'm curious: Why are you currently posting on Tapas?

Because its the best platform there is as far as I'm concerned. Not perfect but compared to webtoons:

• better community engagement

• less strict on censorship (for now. But mark my words if it gets as big as webtoons, censorship will rival an authoritarian regime).

• easier monetization threshold

And if I had the capital, I would invest in creating my own webtoon platform with little to no censorship.

(I'm heavily pro freedom. I was almost hurt or killed by certain groups with authoritarian hateful mindset).

I post on a few different websites, but Tapas is my most successful by a wide margin, so I imagine I will continue to post here for as long as that remains true.

Tapas has had the best audience and community for my type of comic out of the major comic hosting platforms. Although if I was doing a novel, I'd probably post somewhere else as my primary mirror.

It's been a good place to post since I joined. The users that frequent the forums were nice and welcoming from the start, readers are supportive, and there's a lot less negative comments and spamming than in other sites. For context, I also posted to Wattpad for years and gained a large following, but the site has changed to the point where even having popular works isn't enough to draw in an audience to new stories. Discoverability is a lot better on Tapas at the moment and even a few weeks after joining I'd already been featured in the staff picks.

In short, I like the community, I like the layout of the site, and Tapas has been good to me in the time I've been here.

I post on Tapas because I'm more popular here than on Webtoons (mainly since I post traditional pages). Feel more at home here.

I just started posting here. So, I'm getting to know the place. But I am feeling a more community vibe here rivaling past communities I used to be a part of. I was on Radish Fiction, and it closed. So, I moved my novel to here since it seemed to be the best fit. Still crossing fingers it will do well. We'll see. Of course, I'm not sure what doing well here is yet. I have 881 reads, 16 hearts and 3 subscribers since posting mid-November. I have a completed novel, which is releasing three times a week right. now. Not sure if that is the formula to succeed on here, but I'm giving it a "go".

I really want to build a following and gauge my novel. I love getting feedback from people as they read, it's REALLY helpful.
I have some spicy scenes in my novel, and I didn't want to cut them out, so that's one of the reasons I stay with Tapas. I just generally enjoy this app MUCH better than any others out there. I've read on so many and I always come back to this one.
Adding my novel has been something new, it's only been since August, so we will see what happens with it!
I really enjoy being able to share and talk to others on the forum too. I find that's a huge help when I have questions or want to see if there's others with the same experiences.
Eventually, when I finish the art for the book, I'd like to sell physical copies. For now I enjoy sharing my story with everyone on here.

I've tried other platforms but I'm getting so many more readers on Tapas. Like I also post my novel on Wattpad, and my writing has literally one tenth the readers that I get on Tapas. Not to mention, that it's really easy to promote my work and chat with readers on Tapas. And unlike Wattpad, Tapas actually has a forum. You basically can't talk to anyone on Wattpad.

Seriously, though, it was recommended to me when I was first looking for a place to post and since then I've heard nothing about other sites that made me question that lucky choice. Besides, I'm not expecting to make money or fame from stories. It's only the realization of something I wanted to do long ago & now I think I'm doing it better than I would've back then.

its the best out of a lot of bad options haha. when my art was bad i used to post here and got 250 subs in 2 years. now my art is good so i hope to exceed that

The first part- debatable...the last part- facts.

I'm at the point where when I do start back dropping pages of my webcomic, I'll continue to use Tapas...I'm dropping Webtoon; my comic will have harsh language and light nudity and I don't need a site wigging out over it and censoring my work- so I'm going to just pull my comic from Webtoon altogether.

As for Tapas issues itself- they lost a LOT of promising comics when they started doing their shit back in 2017; they've pretty much gutted the old ad-revenue and it is HARD AS HECK to get Tapas inks to cash in and get coin...there are hundreds of more indie/unpromoted webcomics on these platforms than their premium/promoted- I get it from a financial standpoint, but there was enough room at the table for everyone to make coin- and they created a gap between the premium comics and the unpromoted stuff; so yeah- better than Webtoons but still has its own issues.

Thanks for all the replies! I've been a user since 2018 so I definetly get the appeal. I do agree too that it has gotten slightly harder to gain a good audience here but it's still better than many other platforms by a wide margin... I'm glad to hear you all are managing to build such a steady support for your work!
